Promare a new film by Trigger and XFlag that is due to be released in May. Directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by Kazuki Nakashima, both of whom have worked together on Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill. The character designs will be Shigeto Koyama. The series will focus on “Galo and the Burning Rescue Fire Department as they face off against BURNISH, a group of mutants who are able to control and wield flames, and the fire disaster they have unleashed on Earth.” Promare is scheduled to be released in Japan in May 2019.
Darling in the Franxx is an anime series from the producers Trigger and A-1 Pictures, focusing on a “post-apocalyptic future where humanity has been driven to endangerment by giant beasts known as klaxosaurs.” Children are bred to be partnered in boy/girl pairs called Parasites and they pilot Giant mecha called Franxx. The series seems to lean heavily on the two genders working together. The title characters both highlight this fact by referencing a bird called Jian. The Jian is known as “the bird that shares wings,” what is interesting is that they both recite this fact but draw different conclusions. 002 believes the fact that male and females need to work together is “beautiful,” whereas Hiro believes that this makes them pathetic.
The Parasites are at a graduation called a “welcoming ceremony,” where they’re told that they are “the chosen ones,” by Papa a weird hologram, that they must “shed every last drop of blood,” and “children that aren’t fit for this purpose have no value.” Meanwhile, Hiro is given permission to remain but he chooses to leave as his former partner Naomi leaves. It is made clear that her fate is going to be ominous. What is confusing is that it seems like Hiro was largely responsible for the failure but he’s been given an opportunity to stay but Naomi wasn’t. It doesn’t matter however, because a klaxosaurs attacks and kills her.
The klaxosaur is an odd looking creature, with a body that seems too large for its legs. The klaxosaur falls into the plantation as it’s being shot at. As it attacks the garages it uses a massive beam that is deflected by 002’s Franxx. However, she is knocked back into the plantation and her male partner is killed, but she plans on piloting the Franxx alone. Hiro is concerned for her life and she responds that she “isn’t afraid to die.” Hiro predictable offers to fight with her, together they are able to dominate the klaxosaur, Dr. Franxx notes that “when the negative and positive-male and female factors combine and their hearts become one, the iron maiden will reveal her true form.”
In the second episode, What it means to connect we become more familiar with the other characters and how Franxx function. Zorome is the typical bully anti-hero, Gorou is the groups negotiator keep the group in harmony. What’s notable about how the Franxx function is that the Stamen (males), named after the male fertilizing organ of a flower, are the “drivers,” and the pistil (females), named after “the female organs of a flower,” are connected to the female looking Franxx. The manner in which the two pilots are seated in the Franxx is highly sexualize, with the male sitting in an upright position and the female positioned in front of him like she’s riding a motorcycle, simulating a sexual position.
Furthermore, the piloting handles are literal attached to the females suits so the males steer the Franxx using their bodies. To bring the obvious sexual innuendo home, when connecting the female pilots emote a sexual moan. Hiro inability to pilot a Franxx seems to be some sort of metaphorical suggestion of sexual dysfunction. This is all so obvious and not the least bit scandalous unless your a child. To be blunt the fan-service is just distracting. That said Kill la Kill had similar elements, and while it eventually got old I really enjoyed that regardless. Overall, I liked episode 1 more than episode 2. However, given the fact that this season will be 24 episodes long I’ll stick with it for a while anyway.
Finally, the animation and visual style is spectacular. This of course shouldn’t be surprising to anyone familiar with the work of Trigger and A-1 pictures. Everything from the character design, mecha design, monsters and environments are clearly hallmarks of their visual style. The world-building in this series is rather slow and the terminology wasn’t clear, with some still not making sense. Also, who the hell is Papa, why do they call him that? Is he the father of all the orphan? Why was he a hologram?

The Four Devas, along with Nudist Beach find it difficult to break through the barrier protecting the transmitter. Meanwhile, Ryuko and Satsuki battle their mother and Nui. Ragyo uses her power “Absolute Domination” to negate the power of the other Kamui and Goku Uniforms.
Absolute Domination will also ” awaken the Life Fibers lying dormant in those outfits”. After all of Earth’s inhabitants become consumed by the life fiber, the Earth is suppose to become another “Celestial Seed Cocoon Planet”. As a result a “newborn” Life fiber will “spread across the universe”.
Aikuro and Tsumugu arrive and merge DTR to form “Ultimate Double Naked DTR”. They are quickly dispatched by Ragyo, she activates the still living original life fiber so that it can consume the rest of the humans. The Four Devas along with Mako arrive, and Mako begins her usually spotlight speech.
Nui interrupts her speech and aims to kill her, but Gamagoori intervenes and gets stabbed in his stomach. Nui attempts to kill him but Ryuko (without Senketsu), blocks Nui with her scissor swords. Ryuko, being “somewhere in between” human and clothing is able to fight Nui.
Gamagoori appears to lose consciousness as he tells Mako that he “has no regrets”. Ryuko attempts to destroy Ragyo’s “Absolute Domination”, but he friends are captured by the original life fiber. As Ryuko becomes reckless Senketsu yell’s at her to stop, however Satsuki tells Senketsu that his words won’t have the desired effect. Senketsu then concludes that Satsuki can understand him.
As Ragyo goes into the tradition bad guy laugh, she is pierced by Senketsu. When Ragyo asks how its possible, Senketsu response that its “neither human or clothing”. Senketsu then uses “blade gale”, to fly through Ragyo removing Rei in the process. This ends the effects of Absolute Domination, allowing everyone to use their power.
Satsuki and Ryuko team up with each using one scissor sword, while the rest of the group destroy the transmitter. Nui however blocks their path, the copies of her keep getting in their way. Gamagoori arrives and uses his “Ego burst”, with this power he rips a hole in the transmitter. Nudist Beach then uses their DTR to blow up the transmitter.
As Satsuki and Ryuko appear to have defeat their mother plan, she tells Nui to “discard her body”. Nui begins to decapitate herself, much to everyone’s horror. The original life fiber absorbs her head, and Nui becomes clothing for Ragyo. Her new costume feature rockets on the bottom, she fly’s to the satellite activating Absolute Domination again on a planetary scale.
Ryuko with the help of all the other uniforms, activate “Senketsu Fashion Week”. Leaving everyone naked she rockets to Ragyo, fusing the scissor swords together. The sword however isn’t effective, then Ragyo transforms her costume again. Ryuko decides to “end” this fight but is stabbed through the stomach by Ragyo. Senketsu reveals that along with Ryuko they can absorb Ragyo powers.
Ryuko uses Absolute Domination to return the humans to normal. Ragyo kills herself and Senketsu is destroyed while returning through the Earths atmosphere. Heart broken Ryuko appears to resolve herself to crashing to the Earth. However, Satsuki along with everyone else at the academy brace her fall.
The Finally of Kill La Kill was bitter sweet. I thoroughly enjoy both this episode and the series. I liked the balance of character participation in the episode, even though Ryuko finally takes over. Ryuko basically going “Super Saiyan” was cool, but I found the name “Senketsu Fashion Week” to be a little silly.
I was disappointed that there wasn’t more in depth fighting against Ragyo at the end. I wished there was more team work between Ryuko and Satsuki, but was satisfied that Ryuko finally acknowledge that Satsuki is her sister. Absolute Domination was anything but Absolute or Dominating, but it probably was impossible to be too powerful.
Gamagoori clearly is in love with Mako, and I’m surprise that he had a more dynamic part in this episode compared to the other Devas. The largest aspect of this episode was the death of Senketsu, which I didn’t expect. Even though he wasn’t needed any longer, I though Senketsu would have survived. Overall, I really liked this series, the same elements unsurprisingly appeared in this series also appeared in Gurren Lagann. However, I still think Gurren Lagann was better but not by much, though the animation of both series was spectacular.
This episode picks up right where the last open ended, with Mako wearing her Ultima Uniform. Iori is criticized for returning the uniform to Mako, but he explains that she has the most improvement in abilities. He stats range from 0000 to 9999 in all categories except intelligence. Mako springs into action use the ” Seven Hundred Plus 299 Strong Super Suction Saver”, three of the four devas aim to help her.
Houka informs Ryuko and Satsuki on why Nui cannot “regenerate her arms”. The Scissor Sword and the Bakuzan can cut life fibers, however the most powerful fibers begin tho “regenerating immediately after they’re cut”. If you cut them from “both sides at the same time”, you can “sever the regenerating life fiber in succession”.
Ryuko and Satsuki engage Ragyo in battle, she reveals twin swords made of “Ultra hard Life Fiber”. This weapon is the “basis” of Scissor Sword and Bakuzan. Ragyo appears able to handle Ryuko and Satsuki by herself. Ragyo takes to the air and Ryuko and Satsuki follow. They battle mid-air, Ragyo handles them effortlessly. Ryuko decides to turn her attention toward the Origin Life Fiber.
Meanwhile, Mako continues to fight while simultaneously eating. The original life fiber intends on consuming the rest of the humans on the Sol, it changes course. Mako and the rest of Nudists beach are overwhelmed by the number of COVER’s. The four Devas arrive to aid them, wearing their new Three Star Ultima Uniforms. Together they easily dispatch the COVER’s.
Ryuko and Satsuki appear tired from fighting Ragyo, but Ryuko signals to Satsuki and begins to attack. She uses her finishing move, “Thread Stripper”. Ryuko only manages to cut Ragyo, which she quickly heals. However, Ragyo has impaled Ryuko with her sword and proceeds to cut her in half.
Satsuki enraged fails to dent her mother, but its all part of the plan to distract Ragyo. Apparently, Ryuko counter her blade then jumped into the ocean prior to being cut in two. She healed herself so that she could take out the Origin Fiber. Satsuki along with the four Devas battle Ragyo. Aikuro decides to use the final trump card of the Naked Sun, “the Great Naked Blade”.
While within the core of the Origin Fiber, Ryuko uses her “Double Edge Decapitation Mode”, then her finishing move Thread Stripper. Ryuko finds it difficult to cut the core, while the turbine of the Naked Sun fails. Mako inspired by Ryuko run in one of the turbines (like a lab rat), restoring its power. Together they pierce the core of the Original Life Fiber.
Nui arrives to reveal the Ragyo Kamui “Shinra-Koketsu”, her arms are restored as a thank you from Ragyo. Ryuko, Satsuki and the other celebrate before they attack the academy to destroy the transmitter.
Tell Me How You Feel
Ryuko and Senketsu reunite, but Nui possesses both scissor blades. Nui attacks but its deflected by Ryuko. Ryuko states that “she’ll never take off Senketsu”, and that Senketsu has both Mako and Satsuki’s “blood flowing through” it. Senketsu begins to (comically) cry, as Nui considers their relationship “creepy”.
During a brief conflict Between Nui and Ryuko, Ryuko gains both the scissor blades. Nui uses her “mental refitting”, but it fails. She used it as a decoy, appearing behind Ryuko stabbing her through the neck with a needle. However, Ryuko quickly disappears behind Nui severing her arms.
Ryuko absorbs the fibers within Nui arms, telling her to “give up”. Nui however is rescued by Hououmaru, the COVER’s that were left behind are taken advantage of by the four Devas and Nudist beach. They rescue the “Tennis Club’s Hakodate”, the “Boxing Club’s Fukuroda”, and the rest of the club leaders.
The sewing club collects all the remaining fibers. To prove that she is worthy of standing by Ryuko side Satsuki agrees to be punched by Ryuko in her synchronized form. Her four Devas intervene, stating that they ” gladly be smashed to bits or chopped to pieces” for Satsuki. Satsuki apologies and Ryuko agrees to join forces with her to stop their mother.
Junketsu is filled with Satsuki and Ryuko’s blood and some of Senketsu’s Life Fibers. Iori activates his three star Ultima Uniform to help create more Ultima uniforms. Satsuki explains her mothers plans to the rest team.
They must destroy the transmitter back at the academy in order to stop Ragyo’s plan. They are quickly attacked, together Ryuko and Satsuki head off to face Ragyo. A massive COVER attacks the Nude Sol from under the sea, but Mako in her “Fight Club Spec Two Star Uniform” appears ready to help.
This episode opens with a the nude Nui, Ragyo and Ryuko as the explain the fact that Ragyo and Ryuko are the only ones that can wear Junketsu. After kissing Nui, Ryuko fly’s off to face Satsuki. Satsuki and Ryuko exchange words before Satsuki and Senketsu transform. Satsuki synchronizes very quickly with Senketsu.
Ryuko mocks Satsuki’s power, in response she uses Senketsu’s “Blade Flash” then Senketsu’s “Gale”. She then improvises and use a combination of the two, “Blade Gale”. Meanwhile, Nui is seen building something rather large with life fibers embedded within it.
Ryuko appear mildly damaged by Satsuki’s attack, she mocks Senketsu’s look as being ” half-assed”. She say’s that Senketsu is “ugly”, Satsuki on the other hand defends Senketsu as a sign of “human ingenuity”. She states that Senketsu is design to maximize its power without over taking the host.
Ryuko seems to be completely taken over by Junketsu’s power, and she quickly begins to dominate Satsuki. The Four Devas intervene almost managing to rip Junketsu off. However, Nui arrives to save her and tells the others that Junketsu is sewed onto Ryuko. Mako “leaps into action”, as the COVER’s are release to overtake mankind. Ragyo begins the “Genesis of the cocoon planet”, the original life fiber begins to travel to “where it all began”.
Ryuko continues to dominate Satsuki and the four Devas, and she manages to rip Senketsu. Mako arrives and gives her usually long winded speeches, Nui decides to kill her. Senketsu saves her and in the process takes some of her blood. Satsuki now naked engages in battle with Nui, where she suspects that Nui doesn’t trust the control they have over Ryuko.
She states that Nui reluctance to give Ryuko the other half of the scissor shows that she is “still a touch anxious”. Three of the Four Devas arrive to battle Nui as Satsuki turn her attention to Ryuko. Nui orders Ryuko to kill Mako and Senketsu, Mako’s family interferes. As she aims to kill them Satsuki arrives and cut a wound in Ryuko. She orders Mako and Senketsu to enter, forcing Ryuko to release Junketsu.
While within Ryuko we get a strange encounter between Mako, Senketsu and Ryuko. She slices through Senketsu, who in turn gushes blood. Nui assumes that their attempt to change her mind fail, but when her back is turned Ryuko throws her Scissor through it. Enraged she rips of Junketsu, preparing to die while she does it.
This episode feature a lot of action and it’s more than worth the wait. The unpredictability of this episode was the most enjoyable. I couldn’t tell which way the tide would turn, and whether Satsuki stood a chance.
I was impressed with Satsuki’s abilities as a fighter. I’m hoping that Nui actually dies, she just annoying but I doubt it. I wonder if Junketsu is destroyed or would pieces of it survive being reused for Satsuki.
Mako added her usual humor and disruption to this episode, I was surprised by the fact that she appeared in the episode as much as she was. She was very effective in this episode, although I’m disappointed that she didn’t fight with Senketsu though I’m not surprise she didn’t.
Far from the Maddening Crowd
Mako makes one of her speeches after Ryuko claims to no longer be human. Mako say’s that “this isn’t the Ryuko I know” and she responds that she ins’t the same Ryuko. She feels that the “old” her was a fraud and she just a monster. Mako appears sad at this revelation.
Nui Harime appears and taunts Ryuko about her fathers death. Ryuko mother Ragyo arrives as well and Ryuko begin attacking her. Both Nui and Ragyo appear to be paper clones and succeed in convincing Ryuko to meet them at Honnouji Academy. Ryuko still angry aims to fight alone, and lashes out at her friends.
The Four Devas form a plan to rescue Satsuki, she send them a message revealing that she has a plan. Aikuro decides to place all the force of Nudist Beach in pursue of getting Satsuki back, he reveals The Naked Sol as his trump card. The Naked Sol is a massive ship (that resembles the mechs from Gurren Lagann), and they set sail for the academy.
Ryuko arrives at the academy an quickly frees the captured citizen from the COVER’s. Nui shows up and Ryuko attacks, they clash in a fury of sword swipes. Nudist Beach begins their assault on the academy so after, but they seems to have little impact. Satsuki hearing the ruckus frees herself with her sharpen toenails, made out of Bakuzan.
Nui claims she the “only one that can understand her”, she reveals that she too was born with Life Fibers. Ragyo appears with Junketsu and it seems that Nui had a plan to force Ryuko to wear it. The Four Devas arrive to save Satsuki, while on the Naked Sol Ryuko arrives dressed in Junketsu. Ryuko is unmatched, but Satsuki appears wearing Senketsu.
This episode was a very good one, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m not surprise that Nui isn’t “human”, she certainly doesn’t act like it. I wish there was more depth to the fights, however I’d imagine that the next episode will fulfill that need.
Ryuko’s attitude is understandable but I’m starting to find it annoying. That said I find it interesting that Satsuki and Ryuko have seemingly switch places. Overall, this episode left me excited for what’s going to happen next.
Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head
The “COVERS” begin their assault on the citizens, even capturing Mako. Ryuko manages to escape with the help of Satsuki using a explosive. 1 month later and the “COVERS” have taken over the town. The four Devas join forces with Nude Beach, and Satsuki’s forces against the Life Fibers appear to be losing.
Ryuko is comatose as the Mankanshoku family and Senketsu sit by her side. Meanwhile, Satsuki is captured by her mother. After some more inappropriate touching she tell Satsuki how her father change his appearance and faked his death. When her states that she let her live due to maternal kindness, Satsuki doesn’t believe her.
She mentions a name of something or someone ” Shinra-Kouketsu”, her mother is surprised by this. She then begins to spank her daughter to get her to become enraged. Nudist Beach along with the devas battle against the COVER’s. Ira quickly uses their new weapons the “Super Suction Saver” to save Mako.
The COVER’s then use a noise technique waking up Ryuko. Enraged she easily dispatches the COVER’s without wearing Senketsu. When Senketsu appears Ryuko tell’s him that she’s “done with him” and “won’t put him on again”.
This episode was more relaxed in terms of action. I liked the fact that the Four Devas have joined forces with Nudist Beach. I find the “relationship” between Ira and Mako to be a interesting development.
Satsuki mother clearly has boundary issues, and I wondered what Shinra-Kouketsu is. I not surprised by Ryuko feeling like a “monster”, I can image that the new revelation about her mother and her being part Life Fiber has thrown her for a loop.
Into the Night
(Happy Valentines Day)
After making a speech about freedom, Satsuki is attacked by one of her mother subordinates. Ira defends her and Inumuta releases the students using needles. Each student has been trained to fight against the Life Fibers.
Nui prepares to enter the fray, but Uzu challenges her. Satsuki’s mother recovers from her wounds, seemingly having fused with the Life Fiber. The four Devas battle Nui together, though their attacks seem ineffective. Mako is tasked with helping evacuate the audience.
Satsuki reveals that her father told her the truth of her mother. That in order to test the Life Fibers she killed her own daughter. Satsuki uses the sewing club to stop the Original Life Fiber. Kiryuin breaks free and takes over Satsuki’s soldiers, use her “Marionette Threads”.
Satsuki suits up and quickly begins to battle her former soldiers. Kiryuin uses her Marionette Thread on Ryuko gaining control. Nui continues to eluded the four devas, leaving her clone to battle them instead. Ryuko breaks free of Kiryuin’s control, Nui arrives and taunts Ryuko about her fathers death.
Senketsu claims that Ryuko and itself have never been so synchronized. They shock Nui with their strength, meanwhile Satsuki aims to get revenge and kill her mother. She blinds her with light reflecting from her sword, then decapitates her. Kiryuin is far from dead however, she dominates Satsuki with her fists.
Kiryuin strips Satsuki to her underwear, and dons the Junketsu herself. She then moves quickly behind Ryuko and rips out her heart. In the process she reveals that Ryuko is the daughter she thought was dead.
Tell Me Why
Satsuki returns to the Honnouji Academy, she prepares the students for the arrival of her mother Kiryuuin Ragyou. Mako and Sengetsu prevent a fight between Ryuko and Tsumugu. Sengetsu and Ryuko have a discussion about the Life Fibers. Ryuko reveals that she feared the potential responsibility that weights on her.
Aikuro appears and explains to Ryuko how Tsumugu sister came to die. He explains that her father made improvements to the Godrobe, by splicing it’s Life Fibers with her central nervous system’s DNA.
While spying on Honnouji Academy Aikuro explains that it’s a “ground for a large – scale experiment”. The goal is to test the students resistance to the Life Fibers, and allow them to consume their human host.
Aikuro and Tsumugu prepare for battle. Aikuro introduces “A Tailor’s Dagger and Tailors Glove” to Tsumugu. These weapons are capable of cutting Life Fibers. At the academy, the four Devas prepare for the grand festival. Satsuki toasts to their achievements, the following day the festival begins.
Kiryuuin proclaims that she will ” carry out “, the will of the Life Fibers. She then presses a button and the Life Fibers begin to consume their hosts. Aikuro, Ryuko and Tsumugu use a DTR to enter the stadium and face-off against Kiryuuin and the others. As Kiryuuin talks with Ryuko, Satsuki stabs her mother through the chests. Satsuki declares rebellion claiming that she plan to defeat her mother all along.
The Girl Can’t Help It
The aftermath of the battle with Ryuko has taken a toll on Satsuki. She admits that it’s risky to wear her Junketsu but must do so to counter Ryuko. Nue contacts Satsuki and tell her that her mother would like to speak to her in person. Satsuki immediately returns to her mansion.
Aikuro (mostly naked) aims to reveal the truth of the Life Fiber to Mako and Ryuko. Satsuki mother seems to have boundary issues and massages her daughter. Back at the Nudest beach headquarters Aikuro tells Ryuko that her father founded “Nudest Beach”.
Aikuro explains that the Life Fibers caused the homo sapiens species to evolve. Meanwhile, Satsuki and her mother visit the “Original Life Fiber”. The life fibers are an extraterrestrial life form. They are similar to parasites, they feed off the nerve pulses of their host.
The life fibers cannot inhabit the bodies of their host, they place too much strain on the nervous system. Instead they “cover” the bodies, leaving the hosts alive. Senketsu takes the news of his origins hard, questioning his motives in regard to Ryuko.
Aikuro states that Senketsu is different, and was created by Dr. Matoi to “fight against the Life Fibers”. Ryuko is resistant to the Life Fibers, which is why her father created Senketsu for her. Ryuko becomes angered at the idea that Nudest Beach wants to use Senketsu as a weapon. She takes Senketsu off and refuses to fight, Tsumugu threatens to kill them both.
Don’t Stop Me Now
Satsuki battles against Kaneo Takarada, she quickly dispatches the citizens of Osaka. Kaneo release his “Dotonbori Robo” mecha suit. His suit resembles a golden Crab, he defeats the jocks without difficulty. The other three of the four generals arrive and Sanageyama Uzu equips his new Goku uniform.
Uzu easily defeats Kaneo and before Satsuki can question him Ryuko arrives to retrieve the last piece of Senketsu. Satsuki and Ryuko clash, and Satsuki transforms claiming that she won’t be holding back. Ryuko is clearly at an disadvantage, but Nudest beach arrives just in time.
It is revealed that Satsuki was aware that, Mikisugi Aikurou was a member of Nudest Beach the entire time. Her true plan was to lure out Nudest Beach, the four Devas all transform into their new Goku uniforms. Ryuko and Senketsu transform without the missing glove.
Ryuko manages to get her glove back, she and Satsuki face off. The two of them have an epic battle, with the help of Senketsu Ryuko gains enough of an to force Satsuki to withdraw her forces. However, she is successful in destroying Nudest beaches base.
Kill La Kill – Episode 14
Ride Like the Wind
Ryuko wakes up in Aikuro’s hideout, he fills her in on what happened to her and Sengetsu. He hands her the scarf that she managed to hang onto and she head out to get the rest back. Aikuro then states that he is no longer a teacher an he plans on returning back into a ” Splendid Naked Officer”. Satsuki is told that the remaining fibers of Senketsu have been distributed to many students, increasing their strength.
Jakuzure Nonon heads the “Battlefield Trip Brigade” heading to Kyoto, Gamagoori Ira head,s the trip to Kobe, and the Osaka trip is headed by Sanageyama Uzu. They quickly defeat the other schools, even though the put up a fight. Ryuko heads to each location and manages to retrieve each piece of Senketsu, with one strike. Senketsu acknowledges that she is getting stronger. Satsuki, has the final piece of Senketsu. Without it Ryuko cannot transform, she aims to battle Satsuki to get it back.
Kill La Kill – Episode 13
Crazy for You
Satsuki and her team prepare a strategy to conquer the big three, on her “battlefield road trip”. Mako is concerned by Ryuko’s behavior, she continues to sulk about loosing control over herself. A student named Shinjiro Nagita arrives to attempt to convince her to fight against Satsuki. Ryuko at first she refuses, then she changes her mind when Senketsu encourages her.
She suits up to “save” Shinjiro, but this proves to be a trap. I turns out that Shinjiro is actually Nui in disguises. Ryuko is hampered by her fear of losing control, she is defeated easily by Nui. In the process of defeat Ryuko Nui manages to cut Senketsu into little pieces. Before she can kill Ryuko, Satsuki intervenes taking what remains of Senketsu to use in her goal of domination.
Kill La Kill – Episode 12
Spit Your Sadness Away
It was pretty obvious at the end of the last episode that Ryuko was going to lose her mind, but I didn’t predict any thing like this. Ryuko begins to attack Nui, who proceeds to tell her how she killed her father. I personally thought this was the best part of the episode. I assumed that Ryuko’s father (Isshin) was just a weak old man that got slaughtered without much resistance.
We learn that Isshin created the “Rending Scissors”, and he’s had some fighting ability. I was thoroughly impressed by Isshin fighting ability, even though it wasn’t enough. Isshin attempts to use the rending scissors against Nui, but he only manages to slashed her left eye. Nui unsurprisingly get pissed after losing her eye, and brutally stabs Isshin to death.
Ryuko’s blood begins to boil, resulting in Senketsu transforming into a grotesque form. Tsumugu tries to distract Nui to aid Aikuro as he try’s to use the “adhesive bullet” on Ryuko. Satsuki decides to step in and activates her Kamui. Ryuko and Satsuki engage in a brief but impressive battle. Mako makes her usual appearance at inappropriate moment’s. She literally slaps some sense into Ryuko, saving her life (even Satsuki acknowledges this).
After Ryuko recovers from battle, Satsuki reveals that “she was the one who ordered Nui to steal the sword scissors from Isshin”. She thanks Ryuko for helping her gain greater insight into Goku Uniforms, due to Ryuko’s battles with the Elite Four. She has determine to take control over the BIG three schools to the west.
I like how the world of Kill La Kill has been expanded, with the introduction of the western schools. I wonder if the also have Goku uniforms, or considering the fact that Nui didn’t need one maybe the won’t either? Regardless, I’m excited about the possibilities. Are you?
Kill La Kill – Episode 11
I’m Not Your Cute Woman
This episode featured a great air then land battle, but resulted in the introduction of several new characters. It was reveal at the end that Nui Harime was the murderer of Ryuko’s father. Ryuko attempts to use her flight and attack Satsuki directly, but Nonon defends Satsuki. Ryuko destroys her airship with Nonon’s flute shaped missile. Nonon switches to her uniform’s second form, “Da Capo”. It utilizes music to interfere with Ryuko and Senketsu communication.Ryuko counters her sound waves, then reflects them back toward Nonon defeating her.
Tsumugu arrives delivering a special bullet to Aikuro. Before Ryuko and Uzu are about to fight, a perky girl named Nui Harime appears. When assaulted by Uzu she blocks his attack and pulls apart Uzu’s uniform by snapping his Nexus fiber, the Life Fiber that gives it its form. Ryuko asks Nui who she is and she reveals that she killed Ryuko’s father, she even has the other half of the scissor blade to prove it. Ryuko, unsurprisingly flies into a rage. This episode featuring the reveal of who was responsible for Ryuko father’s death, was sooner than expected. I thought they would milk it for a while longer, I’m glad they didn’t.
Kill La Kill – Episode 10
I Want to Know More About You
The episode started of with a flashback of Houka and how he came to meet Satsuki. During the flashback we get a interesting view of Satsuki ideals. She seems to be under the impression that she can “change the world” with Honnouji Academy High School. Houka is hyper analytical and his Goku uniform enhances this ability. His three star uniform , Probe Regalia analyzes Ryuko and her abilities.
Ryuko appears to have figured out rather quickly how to counter Houka, fight erratically. Houka, counters her counter by making himself invisible. Ryuko expands senketsu such that senketsu’s eye stretched the distance of the entire battle field. This prevented Houka from evading senketsu and his ability to gather information on Ryuko. Unable to win and unwilling to lose his data Houka forfeits, he also avoids getting his goku uniform destroyed by Ryuko.
Next is Nonon who like the previous fighters is given a flash back. In her flash back it’s revealed that she meet Satsuki when they were just children. Nonon Three-Star Goku Uniform, Symphony Regalia is aircraft “that attacks her with sound vibrations”. Nonon attempts to win by destroying the battle arena, “knocking” Ryuko out in the process. However, Ryuko transforms into Senketsu Gale, a flying evolution of Senketsu. Aikuro appears to be troubled by the quick evolution of Senketsu, he calls Tsumugu telling him that he should “assume a worst-case scenario”.

Kill La Kill – Episode 08
I Will Wipe My Own Tears
Satsuki announces that she has developed a new “natural election” system. A seven day battle free for all will ensue and those who make it past the week will be able to earn Goku Uniforms for themselves. Ryuko takes Mako to her old house, she flashes back to the day of her fathers death. Failing to find further clues they head home, however they’re scooter runs out of gas. They meet Ira Gamagoori (who just got his driver license), who offers a ride to the gas station.
While driving “the automotive and airsoft clubs” attack Ira in an attempt to get his Three Star Goku Uniform, “Shackle Regalia”. Ira goes into a flashback where he recalls first meeting Satsuki. Ira uniform utilizes masochism for power and defeats his opponents. At Honnouji’s surviving students assemble for the “Sudden Death Runoff Election”, however only Ryuko and the “Elite Four” get to the top. Ryuko is challenged by Satsuki to defeat each of the Elite Four, she will in exchange provides details of her father’s death.
Kill La Kill – Episode 09
A Once in a Lifetime Chance
The battle begins between Ira and Ryuko. Aikuro doubts her ability to face and defeat the Elite Four. She is confident in her ability to win.
