The theory regarding Dabi’s true identity has been confirmed in My Hero Academia manga chapter 290, Dabi is Toya Todoroki. I explained why I thought he might be the lost son of Endeavor in my post Is Dabi Toya Todoroki? In the post, I go through the clues, the mystery surrounding his name, his age, and how Quirks are inherited. Chapter 290, Dabi’s Dance, centers primarily on this reveal but also ends the fight between Shigaraki and the heroes. Gigantomachia arrives just in time. Tomura’s body is in bad shape after fighting Deku and Endeavor. Shoto and Nejire Chan attack him, hoping to finish the villain. They simultaneously use their Super Moves, Nejire Flood, and Flashfire Fist – Jet Kindling but Gigantomachia interferes.
Dabi is Toya Todoroki
While an exhausted Endeavor considers his options against Machia, Dabi gets excited when he sees Shoto and Endeavor. He pours a liquid on his head washing away the black dye. He tells them to call him “Toya.” Elsewhere, Skeptic broadcasts a pre-recorded video where Toya reveals the abusive past of Endeavor. The video is broadcasted to his mother as well, even though the doctors think it will cause her harm. In the video, he reveals his real name and that he murdered “30 innocent people.” He blames the abuse he suffered for behavior. Toya explains to Endeavor that he aimed to “ruin his life and make him hurt.” When he learned that Endeavor became the number 1 hero, he knew how to destroy him.
The past never dies
After confessing to sending the Hood, Starservant, and Ending after Endeavor, Toya challenges his father. He asks Endeavor to “dance with him in Hell.” My Hero Academia chapter 290 was unexpected. Most fans were sure of Dabi’s true identity but I don’t think we thought it would be revealed so soon. I have so many questions regarding what changes in this series. Kohei Horikoshi loves introducing more sophisticated characters who have complex morals. Endeavor was made a more complicated figure, a hero and former abuser that was attempting to redeem himself. However, now that it’s revealed to the public will he be forgiven? How will Rei Todoroki respond? If Natsuo knew Toya was alive why didn’t he say anything?
I don’t think Toya and Endeavor will fight here. The latter is in terrible shape and we are just ending the fight between Shigaraki and the other heroes. The damage that Toya will do has already been done. He has tarnished the image of the number one hero, Endeavor. My Hero Academia chapter 290 has shaken up this series.
At the end of Chapter 280, we saw that Tomura Shigaraki had been defeated by the Heroes. He opens this chapter by telling the heroes that he believes that “only been pretending to protect society.” He blames them for the destruction that results from the “recklessness of Hero Society.” Endeavor attacks him but Tomura is still able to move. Gran Torino quickly pounces on Tomura, smashing his head into the ground. Tomura swings at Torino but misses. However, he pushes himself off the ground, grabbing Gran Torino’s leg drawing blood. Sensing the danger, Deku, Endeavor, and Bakugo charge.
However, they’re too late. As Gran Torino witnesses the warped face of Tomura he recalls that when Nana Shimura left her son at foster care she deliberately altered the family registry so All For One wouldn’t find him. This failed, and Gran Torino wonders if Nana abandoning her son was the right decision. Unfortunately, Tomura punches Gran Torino through the chest killing him instantly. Heartbroken, Deku charges at Tomura. However, Tomura increases his speed and speeds past them toward Eraser head. He is stopped by Ryukyu. Tomura begins to realize that he’s running out of stamina.
Deku grabs Tomura with his Blackwhip, proclaiming that he will “never forgive him.” Tomura elbows Deku in the stomach, forcing him to spit up blood. Deku maintains his composure by “turn his rage into strength.” As Endeavor charges looking for one more shot, Tomura grabs the Quirk-Destroying Drug, aiming for Eraser Head. The chapter ends with an image of Eri from Christmas. This chapter proved me right. I predicted that someone close to Deku would get killed by Tomura and Gran Torino was one of the likely targets. As I argued in the past that to make Deku take the next step he needed to experience tragedy.
Regardless, Gran Torino’s death was still shocking. This moment sets a different tone for a series that rarely gets dark. Tomura and All For One are spreading their negativity throughout the world. Another prediction I had was Tomura using the Quirk-Destroying Drug on someone, but Eraser Head seems like the obvious choice. The consequence of Tomura regaining his powers seems likely to be devastating. The heroes were barely able to stop Tomura without his powers, with them they have no chance. For this reason, I think that someone else will lose their Quirk. However, Eri may make an appearance.
My Hero Academia Chapter 277 opens with Deku and Tomura Shigaraki clashing. With the Near High Ends nomu’s keeping the other heroes distracted, Deku knows that this is a pivotal moment as Tomura’s Quirks are erased. His greatest fear is losing his teacher Eraserhead. Speechless, Eraserhead remembers telling Deku that “he could never be a Hero with his power.” It was difficult to recall that Deku was often hindered by his Quirk and discounted for it. He’s mostly overcome that limitation and is now perceived as a hero of the highest order. Bakugo attacks with A.P. Machine-Gun. Tomura is unaffected, dismissing the attack as “cute fireworks.” Endeavor attacks as Deku is overwhelmed by Tomura’s strength. Endeavor asks where Shoto is.
Shigaraki frees himself from his master
The absence of Shoto is curious. I’m not sure what it does for the story. Tomura seems to be powerful enough to handle all the heroes without his Quirks. Shoto will likely arrive when he’s needed the most, probably when Tomura gets his Quirks back. Regardless, Endeavor believes that Tomura is as “sturdy as All might.” Shigaraki pursues Deku, but he’s distracted by the voice of his Master. Talking to himself, Tomura declares that he’s going to surpass his Master and control himself. Suddenly, Gran Torino attacks. He tells Tomura to “quit trampling all over Shimura’s memory.” Tomura responds, “who?” Despite the biological relationship between Tomura and his grandmother, he’s not familiar with her. With her dying before his birth, he has no real relationship with her.
I would imagine that he will learn more about her later in the series. What effect that has is up in the air. Tomura makes a move towards Deku, however, Bakugo attacks with a huge blast. This leaves Tomura open for Endeavor to use his Super Move: Vanishing Fist. Tomura isn’t invincible in his current form. Without his healing Quirk, he can be harmed, but he’s durable. Elsewhere, at Gunga Mountain Villa, Mt. Lady battles Gigantomachia, who’s carrying Himiko, Dabi, Spinner, Mr. Compress, and Skeptic on his back. Mt. Lady struggles not to let him pass her. The heroes are up against it everywhere. If they can keep Gigantomachia and the others from leaving they might have a chance. As long as Deku is Tomura’s target I think he’s going to have a hard time winning. Ignoring the other heroes isn’t working and he needs to target Eraserhead more. He seems so arrogant that he probably doesn’t think he needs a strategy.
Chapter 276 of My Hero Academia opens with a question. Where is our country headed? Endeavor battles Shigaraki directly. However, despite not being able to use his Quirks, Shigaraki is almost as strong as All Might. Meanwhile, Eraserhead is being helped by Manual because his ankle was twisted by a Nomu. Eraserhead’s eyes are being moisturized by Manual’s Quirk. As Endeavor reaches Tomura he unleashes a fire blast. It does not affect as Tomura is actively able to avoid it. He slams Endeavor into Ryukyu. Elsewhere, Deku and Katsuki are dropped off by Gran Torino.
Deku and Bakugo are hidden
Gran Torino believes that due to Tomura’s speed they need to be a certain distance. The strategy is to create distance between Tomura and the civilians while putting him in Eraserheads sights. As the heroes descend on Tomura, several Nomu’s arrived. Tomura wasn’t able to save every Nomu but managed to free what Dr. Kyudai calls Near High Ends. They can’t think for themselves but they maintain get strength. Two of the Nomu’s begin to rush towards Eraserhead, but so does Tomura. Fearing death, Eraserhead thinks of his students and his desire to watch over them as they mature. Suddenly, Deku and Bakugo arrive, with Deku directly tackling Shigaraki.
The heroes are still overwhelmed
I just noticed that both One Piece and My Hero Academia current arcs have the heroes outmatched and outnumbered. It’s probably a coincidence but it’s interesting none the less. Something has to give. I still think that this fight between the heroes is going to end prematurely. Shigaraki being comparable to All Might without his Quirks is simply too strong to be defeated right now. I believe most of the heroes present will probably die including Eraserhead and Gran Torino. Although I hope Eraserhead survives. Regardless, we finally get Deku/Bakugo vs Tomura.
Guts have numerous scars after many battles. However, his most distinct scar is the one across his nose. Guts received this scar during a training session with his former father figure Gambino. During this session, Gambino becomes frustrated after Guts manages to cut his cheek. In his rage, he gives Guts the cut across his nose.
Shoto Todoroki (My Hero Academia)
Shoto has a large burn scar across his left side of his face. He received this scar from his abused mother. Todoroki’s father Endeavor abused his mother resulting in her developing an intense hatred of Endeavor. In a fit of insanity, she burned Shoto by pouring a kettle of boiling water. She immediately tried to soothe Shoto’s pain with her ice Quirk, however, Shoto seem to be permanently scarred.
Shanks (One Piece)
Shanks’s trademark scar across his left eye was given to him by Blackbeard. When and why he received this scar is currently unknown. The scar is a set of three vertically linear lines that cross over his left eye. However, the eye itself isn’t harmed.
Kenpachi has many distinctive traits. His eye patch, long black hair, and his hairless eyebrows. In addition to all that he has a long, thin scar that runs down his face. Located on the left side, the scar doesn’t cut across the eye. It was given to him by the former Kenpachi and Gotei 13 Captain, Retsu Unohana. He was just a child when she gave it to him.
Vast the Stampede (Trigun)
Vast the Stampede has too many scars to detail. The series doesn’t necessarily tell us when they all happen. Vast’s body is full of deep scars, metal plates that appear to be bolted on, and cuts. In the anime, it is suggested that these scars are all the result if Vast’s unwillingness to kill his opponents.
