Rudo is angry he failed to protect Gris. He doubt he’s made progress and calls himself a “piece of crap.” Rudo is under the impression that Gris died and is shocked to find out he survived. This was thanks to the cleaner’s only healer giver, Eishia Stilza. She humble and shy, so she down plays her role but it clear she valuable and talented. Gris tells Follo, Eishia, and Rudo that they did a good job. Suddenly, the boss walks in. His name is Arkha Corvus.
He praises Rudo for risking his life to protect the cleaners. He officially welcomes Rudo into the cleaners. He gives Rudo some new clothes and explains what the “border” is. It a border between the sphere and the ground. However, anyone who attempts to cross it “ends up dead.” Apparently, there’s a woman in no man land that claims that some people can “go up and down without dying.” Arkha asks Rudo what does he want to do. Of course he says he want to go.
Desserts and instrument quality
Enjin and Follo stop Rudo from heading to “no man’s land” alone. First they need to prepare. Rudo needs to learn how his powers work. They discuss the raiders and Rudo asks how they can even “get giver powers.” According to Enjin, being “good or bad”, has nothing to do with being a giver. He tells Rudo to go to his room and relax, but Rudo can’t. Riyo bursts into his room and gives him a tour. She asks about his life and introduces him to “vianders,” and the desserts.
Rudo considers them to be “rich people food.” Due to the givers that specialize in cooking, they are able to make them. Rudo tries some and is shocked by how good they are. He empties out the dessert pantry by himself. He encounters Zanka. They try to figure out what his powers are. Zanka speculates that Rudo’s powers “rehabilitate,” used goods. They get a pile of “trash,” for Rudo to choose from. He picks up a broken triangle and transforms it into a black weapon. He does the same with a tea pot and a doll.
However, his nose begins to bleed. If he transforms several instruments in a row he becomes overwhelmed. Enjin says that the “quality of the gloves,” is “off the charts.” Caring for an instrument results in its quality “improving.” They speculate further and conclude that once an instrument finishes it’s “role” it crumbles. They finally tell Rudo that he needs to give the gloves a name. Lastly, we get a brief glimpse of the raiders boss, as he thinks of the recent events.
