In the Drachen Region, Frieren’s party comes across a village that’s been wiped out by a dragon attack. At first, Frieren assumes it was just one dragon and says the villagers were lucky compared to what she experienced. She recalls that the Hero Party once faced an entire thunder of dragons while crossing the Northern Plateau. But the villager corrects her—they were attacked by a whole thunder too.
He asks Frieren to deal with the dragons nesting nearby, but she refuses, saying the village is already doomed. The villager argues that it’s still their home, which gets Stark and Fern to sympathize with him. Frieren then says it depends on the reward. The villager offers a spell that lets you say tongue twisters without messing up, and Frieren accepts.
Stark vs a swarm of dragons
Frieren uses a spell to trace the dragons’ mana and track their location. Stark is impressed by how useful magic is, but Fern scolds him for praising Frieren so easily, saying it’s bad for her development. Frieren makes a sour face at being treated like a child.
They eventually find the nest, and Frieren notes the dragons are smaller and weaker than Solar Dragons. After defeating them, Stark is healed at the village church. Fern later asks Frieren why she always asks for a reward when helping people. Frieren recalls asking Himmel the same question and explains that he would accept small rewards so others wouldn’t feel like they owed him.
Himmel’s Memoirs
Frieren’s party gets stuck in a port city by Lake Korridor. After waiting a week for the rain to stop, Frieren asks a ferryman to take them across during the storm, but he refuses. With no other options—since the wind, the size of the lake, and the surrounding mountains make flying or going around impossible—they decide to wait it out for a few months.
Once the rain finally clears, they go back to the same ferryman but don’t have enough money to pay for the trip. Instead, he gives them a job: retrieve Himmel’s lost memoir from a deserted monastery on an island protected by a barrier. Frieren is surprised it ended up in a place like that, but accepts.
While crossing the lake, Stark points out that it feels more like an ocean with entire fleets passing through. The ferryman explains it’s peak season for transporting goods and people. He also brings up a rumor about a city in the north made entirely of gold, though he’s never met anyone who’s actually been there.
Release the Kraken
After reaching the island, Frieren removes the barrier and they enter the monastery. Inside, they find a statue of Himmel with his memoir placed beneath it. Frieren confirms it’s his handwriting and reflects on the everyday moments he wrote about.
When she offers the memoir to the ferryman, he refuses to take it. He tells her to keep it, saying it’s obvious it means more to her, and that the other books they found should be enough to cover the fare.
On the way back, the ferry is attacked by a kraken, but it’s presumably taken down by Frieren’s party.
