When Momo sees Jiji again, she’s shocked, and Okarun can’t help but size him up, thinking he looks tough. But when Jiji suddenly gets fired up over Momo’s reaction to him standing at the door, none of them—Momo, Okarun, or Aira—find it funny. After Seiko invites Jiji in, Momo’s even more surprised to hear from her grandma that Jiji’s going to be staying with them.
Okarun’s caught off guard too, while Aira totally misreads the situation, thinking Momo’s recruiting allies for some big battle. Aira storms out, vowing to stop Momo, leaving her frustrated about dealing with both Aira and Jiji. Okarun starts to head out too but, at Momo’s request, repeats her earlier words about seeing her tomorrow, which leaves them both feeling a little emotional.
Jiji moves in
Later, Momo asks Seiko why Jiji’s moving in, and Seiko explains it’s because his parents are in the hospital. During dinner, Jiji wins her over with some compliments. While they’re washing dishes, Jiji apologizes for teasing Momo when they were kids and tells her he can see spirits now. This catches Momo off guard, and she asks if he’s seen a golden ball, but when he looks confused, she takes it back. Jiji goes on to share how an evil spirit haunted his home after his parents got sick.
He says every exorcist who tried to help ended up taking their own lives, leaving him with no choice but to seek out Seiko, who the exorcists claimed was his last hope. After telling his story, Jiji apologizes again for the trouble he caused Momo. She reassures him, saying she believes in her grandmother’s abilities. But Seiko has other plans—she tells Momo she’ll have to handle this one since Seiko’s powers only work in Kamigoe City. She hints that Jiji’s spirit-seeing ability might have something to do with Okarun’s kintama and even offers to buy Momo new uniforms if she takes on the challenge.
Jiji impresses his classmates
After transferring to Momo’s school, Jiji introduces himself to his new classmates, immediately turning on the charm and flirting with a girl. He gets seated next to Momo, who tries to ignore him, but Jiji wastes no time getting to know Miko and Muko. It’s not long before Momo’s friends learn from Jiji that he’s living with her—and he doesn’t just leave it at that. He spices things up, calling their relationship affectionate, which sends Momo into a fit of rage and straight-up strangling him.
Meanwhile, Okarun can’t shake the thought of Momo falling for Jiji and cutting ties with him. She’s his first love, after all. To distract himself, he starts secretly training during lunch. But his focus gets wrecked when Momo shows up, saying she doesn’t want a repeat of his weird run-in with Aira. While he’s busy weightlifting, she surprises him by offering to feed him, leaving him stunned. Just as he’s about to let her, Jiji swoops in with Momo’s favorite yogurt. The smile it puts on her face is too much for Okarun, and he walks off, deciding he needs to distance himself from her for good.
The anatomical model
That’s when things take a bizarre turn. Okarun spots an anatomical model barreling towards them and shouts a warning to Momo. She’s ready to use her powers, but Jiji pulls her to safety at the last second. The model leaps over them, and Momo catches sight of something shiny attached to it—it looks like Okarun’s kintama. Determined to stop the model, Momo grabs on, but the thing’s speed drags her and Jiji along. Without hesitation, Okarun gives chase, desperate to save Momo.
Okarun shifts into his Turbo Granny form, racing to catch up with Momo and Jiji. Momo’s still grappling with the rogue anatomical model, which gains distance by leaping across rooftops. She tries to grab Okarun with her psychic powers but accidentally flings herself and Jiji toward an oncoming bus. Just in time, Okarun swoops in and saves them, letting them ride on his back. While clinging to him, Momo casually drops the bomb to Jiji that the “creature” he thinks is chasing them is actually Okarun transformed. Jiji’s mind is blown.
Taro, the anatomical model
The three work together to reel in the anatomical model, but it manages to escape by breaking itself apart. Still, it leaves behind its heart, and Momo tracks it by following its cries of pain after she struck it. Their search leads them to a junkyard, where they finally find the anatomical model. Momo calmly tells it they’re not there to hurt it; she just wants to check out the golden sphere it’s carrying. Out of nowhere, a female voice from the trash calls out for the model, addressing it as Taro. Taro bolts to the garbage to rescue Hana, a female anatomical doll. He confesses his feelings for her, even as she tries to push him away and insists he should leave her behind.
As Taro professes his love for Hana, Okarun starts to draw some uncomfortable parallels to his own feelings for Momo. Realizing the connection, he blushes furiously, unable to hide his flustered thoughts.
Conclusion
As I predicted Jiji is the foil for Okarun. He seems to have feelings for her and she may return the affection. Okarun is going to need to find the courage to admit his feelings or Momo might date her old crush. Momo does seem to like Okarun but how long will that last. Jiji has a tragic backstory that most likely will be explored in a future episode. I wonder how the series will deal with it’s expanding cast. Aira disappears for most of the episode. It may not be a problem in the future but if the cast expands even more it might become one.
