Season 4, Episode 4: Fighting Fate

Can All Might escape fate?

Episode 4 of the fourth season of My Hero Academia, Fighting Fate, opens with Mirio and Izuku on patrol. Bubble Girl and Sir Nighteye are watching the target, so patrol is suppose to be easy. Mirio asks for Izuku’s hero’s name, Deku. Mirio’s hero name is “Lemillion.” As they’re walking a small girl, “Eri” runs into Izuku. She’s terrified and clings to Izuku. Overhaul appears out of the alley behind her. Deku recognizes Overhaul. Mirio covers for Izuku. He confirms that Overhaul is a member of Hassaikai. The conversation is oddly familiar, as Mirio pretends that he’s unaware. Without revealing the truth, Mirio tries to steer Izuku to leave the girl. However, Eri is still holding on to Izuku. Unsurprising, Izuku refuses to leave her.

He thinks that it’s suspicious for a hero to abandon a trembling girl. He ignores Mirio, demanding to know what Overhaul is doing to her. Overhaul tells them he will answer if the follow him to the alley. He intends to kill the two of them, but Eri, noticing this intent returns to him. Sir Nighteye and Bubble girl regroup with Mirio and Izuku. Desperate to save Eri, Izuku is eager to rush to her aid. Nighteye tells him “not to be arrogant.” It’s necessary to do things correctly. Otherwise, the villains will know there intentions. At the Shie Hassaikai’s hideout, Eri is taken to the experimentation room. Mimic interrupts Overhaul to inform him that Shigaraki called.

Why did Sir Nighteye and All Might fall out?

The pressing question since the introduction of Sir Nighteye is why did he and All Might fall out? Izuku wants to know the truth. Nighteye was a fanboy of All Might, convincing him to take him on as a sidekick. After the battle with One For All, All Might is asked to retire by Nighteye. All Might believes that he can remain the “symbol of piece.” However, Nezu and Sir Nighteye believe he should find a successor. Nighteye uses his Quirk, Foresight on All Might. He tells All Might that he will “perish to a gruesome villain.” However, All Might remains stubborn. Nezu suggests that Mirio to be his successor. In reality, All Might meet Izuku before Mirio.

After informing Sir Nighteye that he will give Izuku his power their relationship deteriorates further. All Might tells Izuku that Sir Nighteye predicted his death in six years. Izuku realizes that means in the next year or so he will die. All Might hopes he can “battle against fate.” I get the feeling that at some point in this series All Might die. He will likely be killed by Shigaraki. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think Izuku takes the dangers of the world seriously yet. Seeing his idol killed would be devastating but necessary to make him a better hero.
