Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 04 opens with Faputa dismounting off Gaburoon, then grabbing Reg. She has four arms and according to Reg she smells “like the sun,” and has a “high temperature.” She asks Reg about his arm and calls him by his name suggesting they have history. She and Reg leave the village, while Majikaja discusses Nanachi’s “value.” Majikaja claims that “the village itself knows everyone’s desire, because it can see signals in the brain and soul.” When asked, “what she values,” Nanachi responds “her friends and Mitty.” She’s shocked when Majikaja tells her Mitty is still alive.
Faputa inspects Reg’s body to prove he’s real. She claims that Reg was supposed “to bring back his highest valued thing.” Reg is understandably confused and so was I. How could he be the Reg Faputa knows if like Reg noted Riko named him Reg after her dog? Is he one of many Reg androids? That can’t be possible if he’s so rare right? Is there a time travel effect between the layers? Maybe the dog was named after him? Anyway, Reg leaves to return to Riko and Nanachi.

The return of Mitty
Meanwhile, Riko and Meinya can’t find Nanachi and Reg. The Narehate are no help because Riko can’t understand them. The curious Narehate creep her out when they surround her. She’s saved by the Narehate, Maaa, that was “balanced” in the previous episode. They head to Narehate Restaurant, owned by Moogie, who can create “any flavor and texture a customer specifies.” After eating a “spicy” dish, Riko is introduced to Wazukyan, one of the Three Sages. Nanachi and Majikaja enter the home of Belaf, where they find Mitty in a pot.
Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 04 was a little confusing. Obviously, the mysteries surrounding Mitty and Reg will be addressed at some point in this series. But the return of Mitty might cause trouble for Nanachi. She was very attached to her former friend and I think she will likely do something reckless to get Mitty back. The Narehate value parts of the body so I expect she might give up a limb or organ. However, Mitty might “cost” more than that. There’s a perverse obsession with Riko’s body that I don’t trust. The value culture is likely to lead to exploitation. I don’t think it’s going to end well for our trio.
