Solo Leveling Season 1, Episode 12

At the end of the last episode, Jinwoo was under pressure from endless knights after defeating the Blood-Red Commander Igris. Without his Teleportation Stone, Jinwoo is becoming desperate while being pushed to his limits. He’s out of mana and his fatigue is a peaking. He continues to fight knight after knight after knight with his bare hands. Jinwoo is haunted by images of his comrades and even himself. They’re a representation of his doubt.

Jinwoo isn’t ready to surrender yet. He recalls his experience in the Double Dungeon. However, his experience is interrupted when he’s penalized for failing to complete is daily quest. He’s transported to the Penalty Zone. Inside the Penalty Zone Jinwoo is able to access the store. He manages to heal his fatigue. Unfortunately, his health cannot be healed due to his injuries. Jinwoo has two choices: heal naturally or level up. Suddenly, six massive Desert Centipedes burst through the sand.

Jinwoo’s new motivation

However, Jinwoo level is too high. Motivated with a new drive to get stronger, Jinwoo uses dash to kill a few of the centipedes. He prepares to finish the others. I wondered what would happened if Jinwoo failed to complete his daily quest while inside a dungeon. I assumed the punishment might activate after he left. It’s a clever use of the game mechanic to “save” Jinwoo from his predicament.

Jinwoo increases his level fighting against the centipede and fully recovers. He purchases a new weapon called “Knight Killer”, which deals 25% more damage to armor-type beast. He uses the rune stone he received from Igris. It gives him the skill, “Ruler’s Hand,” which doesn’t require mana. This ability allows him to “physically manipulate objects without touching them.”

The Knight Killer

Stronger and fully recovered, Jinwoo is set up to complete the Job Change Quest. The Knight Killer dagger slices the Knights up like butter. Jinwoo realizes that the mages are summoning more knights and he needs to target them. After killing two, the remaining three create a golem. Determined, Jinwoo targets and kills the three. However, the golem doesn’t die after he kills the mages. Still, Jinwoo manages to blow a hole through the golem. Killing it and completing the mission.

Due to Jinwoo’s tendency to fight alone he’s granted the job of “necromancer.” Jinwoo isn’t happy with the new job. He’s has an assassin build and likes close combat. This clashes with the “backline,” class like necromancer. He rejects it at first but when the system tells him that it’s a hidden class, he reconsiders. With this new class he won’t have to solo his mission anymore while still avoiding fighting with other hunters.

Jinwoo is the Shadow Monarch

When Jinwoo receives his awards for defeating the dungeon his point total exceeds the “class threshold.” As a result, his job changes from necromancer to “shadow monarch.” Suddenly, he begins to hear faint sounds of people in pain. One of his new skills, Shadow Extraction can be used. First he must give it a command name. He choose, “arise.” His other skills Shadow storage allows him to store the summons whenever he wants. Jinwoo guess he can use his new abilities on Commander Igris.

However, his first two attempts to use Arise on Igris fail. Jinwoo makes a plea to Commander Igris to follow him instead of waiting for a dead king. Finally, Igris joins him and together with the knights they bow to their new master. Solo Leveling won’t return to until later this year. I can’t wait for it to return.
