My Hero Academia Season 7 Episode 3: “Villain”

Tomura is in agony as his Quirks continue to destroy themselves. All For One tells him to calm down, pointing out that their Quirk Factors are damaged and need time to heal. Despite this, “Tomura” keeps shouting obscenities, declaring that as long as people remember All Might, he’ll never find peace. All For One notes that, with their minds now fused, he shares “Tomura’s” hatred. He reassures him that even though they couldn’t steal New Order, they’ve removed their biggest obstacle, so they can take it easy for now.

He tells the League to remain on standby for a bit longer, but Dabi isn’t having it. He can’t stand the sight of his dad flying around. All For One counters, pointing out a crucial difference between them. Dabi may have one clear goal, but All For One has spent decades planning multiple routes to achieve his ultimate objective. They need to wait for Tomura’s body to be perfected. With Izuku back at the fortified U.A., All For One adds that Dabi also lacks “friends to spare.” Toru Hagakure (Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl) is shown as he says this. Obviously, we are expected to believe that Toru is a traitor.

Class 1-A prepares

Class 1-A continues to train in the courtyards of U.A. Katsuki talks about what he learned during their internship—how to “build up and release.” Now, he’s focused on saving up a bunch of sweat. Instead of one big explosion, he creates a barrage of explosions at once to power his new Cluster technique. To sweat faster, he stays in his winter suit.

Izuku notices Shoto trying a different approach. Shoto’s control over his left side has caught up to that of his right. Now, he needs to merge both halves into one to achieve a body Dabi can’t burn.

Denki talks with Minoru about how the fight should be easier with Tomura and All For One currently weakened and Gigantomachia still sedated. But Katsuki quickly shuts them down, listing three reasons why they’re wrong. First, even after locating the research facilities and hideouts, the Heroes never tracked down All For One himself. He’s a master at “hide-and-seek,” so they’re unlikely to find him again.

The traitor is . . .

Toru isn’t the traitor. In the U.A. Forest, Toru is investigating someone, noticing that “he” has been looking especially down ever since the War. Ever since Izuku came back, he hasn’t smiled once. In the distance, two voices tell someone they just received another order from “him” and to keep listening as they always have. Tearful Yuga Aoyama listens to his parents as they remind him he has to do what All For One says, or they’ll all be killed.

Toru reacts in shock, realizing that Yuga has been the traitor the whole time. His parents hysterically try to reassure Yuga, reminding him of how he was able to inform All For One about the training camp’s location without being exposed. They talk about how all they wanted was his happiness, but since he was born without a Quirk, they didn’t want him to be shunned by everyone else. They say that if they knew how bad it would’ve gotten, they never would have done it, but the moment they got his Quirk from All For One, they were forever trapped under his influence with no way of escaping. Toru panics, thinking about needing to tell someone when she spots somebody nearby approaching.

That someone is Deku. Together he and Toru confront Yuga, who admits that he was the one who aided the League during the U.S.J. Incident and the Training Camp. He calls himself a “despicable villain.”

Yuga’s betrayal is reveal to all

At the Villains’ hideout, Dabi questions All For One about the potential repercussions if his “friends” get caught. All For One, however, dismisses any concerns. If they succeed, he’ll be thrilled. If they fail, it’s just a minor setback. To him, his “friends” are nothing more than “disposable tools,” pawns to extract as much excitement as possible from their actions.

Meanwhile, in the U.A. forest, Yuga’s parents attempt to flee with their son, with Izuku and Toru in hot pursuit. Yuga reflects on his parents’ worries about his being Quirkless. Coming from affluent backgrounds, they provided him with every luxury, desiring nothing but his happiness. They were more troubled by his difference than he was, until they heard a rumor about a man who could bestow Quirks.

In the My Hero Academia universe, Quirks are the norm and the Quirkless are outsiders. I makes sense that Yuga’s parents would feel badly that he’s Quirkless. Being wealthy likely adds a level of entitlement to them and they were willing to do anything to get Yuga a Quirk. I has backfired, but their intent was pure.

Deku has hope for Yuga

In the U.A. A.V. Room, the Aoyamas are interrogated by All Might, Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi, and the U.A. staff. They learn that he received his Quirk about ten years ago and doesn’t seem to be rigged to explode like Lady Nagant was. Nezu asks the students to leave, but a devastated Class 1-A bluntly refuses. Mashirao demands to know what he planned to do if Toru hadn’t exposed him. Eijiro begs him to say it’s all a lie. Katsuki, on the other hand, just remarks that it’s a “small world” that Yuga is another one of them who started out Quirkless.

Naomasa then questions the parents about All For One. The father admits they know nothing, only that they followed orders under threat of death. He describes how they were shown the bloody remains of someone who had tried to go to the police. Begging for mercy, he insists it was their fault alone and Yuga had no idea. Yuga begins to break down, thinking about everyone who could’ve died because of him, yet he had the nerve to smile with everyone as if they were friends. Seeing Izuku, another former Quirkless person, fighting so hard against All For One made him realize how pathetic he was, wallowing in his own despair. He confesses he feels like a villain through and through.

Deku who has hope for everything tells Yuga that he was manipulated by All For One. Deku’s right. It’s impossible to hold Yuga responsible for his betrayal as everyone knows what evil All For One can inflict. Yuga however, doesn’t agree. He’s ashamed of himself and that’s understandable too. Ultimately, I think Yuga will be redeemed and forgive himself. Deku won’t allow it.
