Kafka’s determination buys him sometime. Still his leg is broken, so moment isn’t possible. He tells Reno to go on without him but Reno refuses, saying that he’ll continue to “back him up.” Kafka rids on Reno’s shoulders as the later acts as the legs. Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina can’t help find this whole situation to be hilarious, bending over with laughter. On the battlefield, most of the participants fight together but Kikoru rushes through the field slaughtering Kaiju and defeating the Honju by herself. The final stage of the exam ends. Everyone is understandably impressed. As they gush over her and humanlike Kaiju appears and hit her in the heart.
Kikoru’s childhood
Obviously, this Kaiju isn’t suppose to be there. Even worst the other Kaiju begin to heal and transform. The humanoid Kaiju speaks, asking Kikoru if she’s “still moving.” With some quick thinking, Kikoru is able to use the suit to prevent instant death and heal herself. When they’re ordered to “evacuate,” she refuses. She determined to stop the newly evolved Kaiju she remains behind. We get a flashback of Kikoru’s childhood. He father was absent and hard on her. He demanded perfection and instill a since of superiority in her. The evolved Honju continues to restore itself will brutally beating Kikoru.
Hoshina and Mina are rushing to the staging ground. However, the Honju begins charging a attack. Kikoru accepts her fate as she apologizes to her father for failing to be perfect. Suddenly, Kafka appears and praises her for her efforts. Without her everyone couldn’t escape. Kafka transforms before her eyes. Comically, Kafka begs Kikoru not to tell the Defense Force that he’s a Kaiju. The Honju attacks with it’s charged attack, but Kafka deflects it with ease. The Defense Force is able to detect the massive energy coming form Kafka but don’t have any visuals.
Kafka’s Fortitude
His energy output is detected at “Fortitude 9.8,” a number that Hoshina claims is “impossible.” It was true then it would mean that Kafka is “one of the most powerful Kaiju in history.” Kafka clashes with the Honju and obliterates it with his punch. Kikoru passes out, as Reno berates Kafka for transforming. Honju and Mina arrive after Reno, Kikoru, and Kafka have already left. Hoshina begins to connect some dots between Kafka’s first transformation and this one. Kikoru is another witness to the good nature of Kafka as a Kaiju. When he’s exposed she will be a good ally as the best fighter in the Defense Force.
It is revealed that the new humanoid Kaiju is acting under cover in the cleanup division. Like Kafka he can transform between human and Kaiju. I’ve mentioned in previous reviews that I wasn’t impressed with the Kaiju so far and thought their would be more Kaiju/human hybrids. I assumed they would be created like Kafka not already established. That can still happen of course. Either way I am pleased. Kaiju No. 8 continues to get more interesting.
