Kinji Hakari has been one of the most anticipated characters for the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom. He’s a brash, self-absorbed, good-for-nothing third year or at least that’s what were told. First we have the imprisonment and death of Principle Yaga. At some point after Panda’s birth, Yaga was arrested out of fear from the higher-ups he’d create an army. We get a flashback of Yaga, Kusakabe, and his sister. Kusakabe’s sister lost her son. Using his cursed corpse ability, Yaga creates a “copy” of Kusakabe’s nephew.
His sister recognizes her son, Takeru, in the curse corpse. However, she will only be able to visit him, as they must keep Takeru a secret. Yaga is lured to Jujutsu Headquarters under the pretense of rescuing Panda. He’s intercepted by a masked sorcerer and Gakuganji. The fight unfortunately is off screened but Principal Yaga is fatally wounded. For some reason he decides to tell Gakuganji how to make a corpse curse after he’s going to die.
How to create a cursed corpse
According to him you create a cursed corpse by: Soul information can be replicated from physical information and inputted into cursed corpse cores. These cores must contain three highly compatible souls and have them constantly observing each other. This is the only way the souls will stabilize and give rise to self-awareness and self-sustaining cursed energy. Gakuganji is surprised that he told him, but Yaga tells him that he was “cursing” him.
To be honest I don’t get this moment. Gakuganji is right. It seems like a waste of his life to tell after it too late. Maybe, he though he’d beat Gakuganji? Panda arrives too late but has no hostility towards Gakuganji. He weeps over the body of his father.
Nobody talks about Fight Club
Yuji and Megumi put on clothing the resembles Naruto and Sasuke. They enter the parking garage where they meet the manager and a bodyguard. They tell them to leave but Megumi threatens to beat him up. He lies and tells the bodyguard that he “killed another sorcerer a month ago”. The manager gets a message from Hakari, telling him that Yuji can fight. This is better for them because Yuji is the superior fighter.
Yuji faces off against a surprising opponent, Panda. They put on a entertaining battle where they pull their punches. Hakari watches from a monitoring room. He’s excited to meet Yuji, as he sees him as an impressive fighter. Outside, Megumi and Panda try to figure out how to get to the monitor room. Panda reveals that due to Kirara Hoshi’s cursed technique, he cannot get close to the room. Her technique is similar to Gojo’s Infinity.
Yuji gets exposed
Meanwhile, inside the monitor room, Hakari meets Yuji. He asks if Yuji believes he could make one hour a day and make one million yen a month. Yuji is confused and replies with “huh?”. While they’re talking, Hakari’s phone starts ringing. He asks Yuji if he wants a drink but Yuji says that he’s “underaged.” When Hakari mentions Gojo, Yuji fails his test by pretending not to know who Gojo is. Hakari attacks him using his cursed technique. They headbutt each other, while Hakari yells that “his fever is running cold.”
This was a fun episode. What stood out most was the meeting between Hakari and Yuji. The scene was “rotoscoped.” By using live-action movement that is then animated over, the fluid actions of the characters are possible.
