Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 7, “Evening Festival” concludes the fight between Mahito and Mechamaru, and begins the Shibuya arc. Mechamaru takes aim at Mahito, he does little damage but manages to force Mahito to flee. Mechamaru’s psychical attacks don’t target Mahito soul. The curse spirit transforms into a fish to avoid damage from the mech, however, he’s hit buy a technique that does damage his soul. After being distracted, Mahito is hit by the mech and sent flying into the woods. Despite this he’s able to dodge the next attack.
He proceeds to dodge Mechamaru’s next attack: Pigeon Viola. The colorful attack isn’t able to land as Mahito transforms into a series of animal to avoid the beams. It’s a stunning animated scene that might require multiple views to see which animals Mahito turns into. Unable to determine which attack of Mechamaru is going to hit his soul, he gets close and cuts the power cords to the mech. Mechamaru isn’t discouraged. He hits Mahito with another punch from the mech, sending the curse crashing into the mountain. Unfortunately, Mahito uses his Domain Expansion: Self-Embodiment of Perfection.
The power of Simple Domain
I assumed that Mechamaru would meet his end at this point but he had a counter “Simple Domain.” I didn’t understand the explanation for why this undermined the effect of the Domain Expansion, but Mechamaru claims that he was able to “protect himself,” by using New Shadow Style: Simple Domain. A technique that is “anti-domain,” Simple Domain was created by Sadatsuna Ashiya in the Heian Era to neutralizes a domain’s “guaranteed-hit function by affecting its barrier and not the imbued cursed technique.”
Mahito explode after getting hit, leaving Mechamaru to turn his attention to Geto. Suddenly, Mahito crashes into the cockpit of the giant Mechamaru. Using a small Mechamaru hidden inside the cockpit, Kokichi tries in vain to attack Mahito but meets his end. With the fight over, Mahito and Geto turn their attention to the main event the Shibuya Incident. The last few minutes of the episode are used to set up the Shibuya arc. The Jujutsu Sorcerers are grouped into teams and debriefed. Gojo arrives and enters the veil alone. Having read the manga a while ago I might be wrong but the human victims are given voices in away I don’t think they’re permitted in the manga. Only some notice the veil. Others are desperate to escape aware that their in danger.
