The last few episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen were downers with Nanami and Nobara “dying,” at the hands of Mahito. After Sukuna’s rampage and the deaths of his friends Yuji is understandably heartbroken and distraught. At the end of the last episode, Nobara face exploded after Mahito touched her with his Idle Transformation technique. Jujutsu Kaisen 12th episode, “Right and Wrong, Part 3,” opens with a flashback of the last time the trio was together. Nobara spills coffee on Gojo’s expensive shirt. Hilarity ensues as Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara try to fix the issue.
We haven’t seen too many slice of life scenes from the trio but it was a snapshot of what has been lost. Mahito continues to be a menace. He charges towards a paralyzed Yuji and hits him with a devastating Black Flash. I’ve seen many fans shocked at the fact that Mahito could use the phenomenon but Black Flash doesn’t discriminate and can help anyone. I’ve mentioned the voice acting before but I should praise Mahito’s voice actor for his ability to make Mahito sound deranged. He beats Yuji brutally. Before he get the final blow in, Aoi Todo arrives.
Return of Besto Friendo
There are many Jujutsu Kaisen characters that are beloved but Todo has to be top five. He’s ridiculous but it has it’s charms. Such a dramatic character, Todo has a surprisingly sophisticated mind. His big personality is balanced by his seriousness. Todo is intelligent despite the stereotype’s of the brain dead muscle head. It’s Todo that manages to give Yuji some hope with a deep speech. Todo says that “he believes as long as one of them lives to fight, those who have fallen will never have been truly defeated.” Mahito and Todo go head to head. Todo effortlessly uses his Boogie Woogie while avoiding Mahito’s many attacks.
The episode shifts to the final conversation between Miwa and Mechamaru. The scene is well animated and sad but I feel that their relationship wasn’t well defined enough to really make me care. Meanwhile, Todo and Yuji display their flawless teamwork. Working together fighting Mahito. Despite this the cursed spirit holds his own. Todo feeling left behind manages to land a Black Flash of Mahito after an animation sequence similar to one All Might from MHA. However, the attack has almost no damage on Mahito. Mahito seems to be reaching a new level and challenges Yuji to join him in cursing each other.
