Black Clover Season 2, Episode 2 Recap: “The Door to Hell”

Outside the castle, Mereoleona Vermillion’s punch does little damage to the giant demon. She remembers how her encounter with Zagred’s magic made her realize that she needed to become stronger. During her training, Mereoleona was bathing in lava when Nacht approached her about helping with the rescue mission. She agreed because she wanted to face the people strong enough to kidnap Yami Sukehiro and William Vangeance. Excited to fight a beast of legend, Mereoleona activates her Hellfire Incarnate spell, which greatly increases her physical strength. She knocks away the demon’s hands before moving closer to its head and punching it in the jaw, knocking it onto its back. Afterward, she releases her full Mana Zone and unleashes a barrage of punches across the demon’s body.

Inside the castle, Rill Boismortier and Charlotte Roselei confront Vanica Zogratis, while Yuno Grinberryall and Langris Vaude face Zenon Zogratis. Meanwhile, Jack the Ripper and Nacht confront Dante Zogratis. Back with Yuno and Langris, Zenon is surprised that the people who infiltrated the castle are not from the Resistance and that Yuno is still alive. Yuno explains that “William Vangeance saved him,” and they plan to “take their captain back” after defeating Zenon. Yuno attacks with Tornado Fang, but Zenon unleashes his devil power and easily blocks the attack with his Bone Magic. Langris refuses to sit idly by and uses Archangel Shootdown. However, Zenon creates spatial cubes around the spheres and negates their mana. Zenon comments that if he did not exist, Langris would probably be the strongest spatial mage.

Annoyed that Zenon is talking down to him, Langris uses Archangel Destruction, but Zenon creates a spatial cube around the entire room and dispels his spell. Zenon claims that they will “die” without even making him take a single step before attacking them with bones created in the space around them. Yuno summons Sylph, who declares that she and Yuno will take “Zenon down.”

Yuno and Sylph assimilate

Yuno then assimilates Sylph and creates Spirit of Boreas, a halberd made of wind. The intense mana pressure destroys Zenon’s bones. Yuno reaffirms that he will become the Wizard King and cannot allow Zenon to defeat him. Surprised that his mana is not under his control within his own dominion, Zenon watches as Yuno appears in front of him and thrusts his halberd forward. Zenon’s bones stop the weapon, but Yuno repeats Zenon’s earlier words about defeating them without taking a single step. He then creates a burst of spiraling wind that shatters the bones and drills into Zenon’s torso.

Yuno tells Zenon that he is the one that is going to die and that he should regret ever messing with the Golden Dawn. Langris thinks about how their plan is working and that they may be able to stop the Qliphoth Advent Ritual. Langris also thinks about how they will be able to rescue William Vangeance.
Elsewhere, Vanica says that she heard there were intruders but is disappointed that neither of them is Noelle. Vanica tells Charlotte and Rill to show her if they are worthy of having fun with her.

She explains that if they cannot “defeat the two Shining Generals” that she brought with her, then they are not worth bothering with. Charlotte attacks with her Corpse-Hunting Briar Tree spell, but Vanica explains that her generals have been empowered. The two generals destroy Charlotte’s spell. Meanwhile, Rill uses his Souterrain Groundswell and Sirène’s Game spells to counter the generals’ attacks.

Vanica compliments Rill’s Painting Magic but says that it is not enough to impress her. She also points out that Charlotte’s Briar Magic is holding Rill back. Vanica wishes that she could fight Asta or Yami and make them her toys. However, she says that Yami’s death will open the gate to the underworld and that Yami cannot be that strong since Zenon was able to capture him.

Jack and Nacht vs Dante

Jack uses his Lunatic Slash to cut Dante multiple times, but his wounds heal immediately. Dante explains that Morris Libardirt’s sorcery science has improved his regeneration and that only Anti Magic has a chance of hurting him. Nacht realizes they will have to rely on Jack’s magic, which can cut things that cannot be cut. However, Dante activates his Presence of the Demon King spell, saying that he has no use for them.

Nacht wonders if Jack can attack from inside the gravity spell. He has Slotos enter his shadow and activates Unite Mode: Equus, giving him increased toughness. Dante notices that Nacht is another devil host besides Asta. Nacht then taunts Jack about his fighting spirit and tells him to let his skills do the talking, frustrating him.

Dante suddenly attacks Nacht, but Nacht kicks him and says that he is talking to Captain Jack. Dante enjoys the fight and tells Nacht to keep entertaining him until the gate opens. Nacht realizes that he can trade blows with Dante but cannot land a critical hit. He needs Jack to attack, or they are finished. Dante then calls Jack boring and tells him to get lost.

Jacks pasts

In a flashback, Jack remembers his father, a hunter who taught him to avoid creatures stronger than himself. His father was happy when he learned that Jack’s magic formed blades, calling it fitting for a hunter. However, Jack eventually grew tired of hunting weaker creatures. When Jack was 13, his father was killed, likely by the lord of the mountain. Jack confronts and defeats the creature, then decides to join the Magic Knights.

Back in the present, Nacht blocks Dante’s punch and notices Jack sharpening the blades covering his body. Dante calls Jack “pathetic” and says that “Yami was able to keep him entertained.” Jack thinks about “how he wants to slash strong opponents to ribbons and gets back up,” with blades emerging from different parts of his body. Nacht realizes that Jack can cut through the gravity spell.

Jack attacks Dante, but his body regenerates. Dante prepares his Gravity Singularity spell, claiming that a mere insect cannot kill him. Jack tells him “not to underestimate insects,” thinking that the toughest people are those who kill everything standing in their way. He then slashes through Dante’s body magic, making him bleed. Dante is shocked, while Nacht realizes that he underestimated Jack.

Devils of the highest order

Outside the castle, Mereoleona gloats over the burning demon while the Spade Kingdom Resistance are amazed by her strength. Ralph, Sally, Valtos, Rades, Sekke, and Makusa arrive to meet with the Resistance. Albert is glad that Ralph is alright and listens as he explains how he met Yuno, a skilled Wind Mage who resembles Lady Ciel and has the strong heart of Lord Loyce. Albert believes they can win with the help of Yuno and the others. Back inside the castle, Plumede informs Nacht about the other fights.

Nacht comments on how the strongest Magic Knights are stronger than he expected. Meanwhile, Jack cuts Dante, who gets excited and tells Jack to entertain him. Jack tells him to shut up and die. Suddenly, magic circles appear on the walls as the roots of the Tree of Qliphoth burst through the castle. Nacht enters Unite Mode: Felis and uses Heaven’s Shadow Second Sight to observe the ritual. He discovers that Yami and William are there with Moris Libardirt, an exiled Magic Scholar from the Diamond Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Moris reveals that Vanica taking Lolopechka hostage allowed him to use the Heart Kingdom’s wisdom to accelerate the Tree of Qliphoth’s growth. Despite being born blind, Moris gained the power of a devil and transplanted Lolopechka’s wisdom into himself.
Back with Nacht, he wonders how Moris became an accelerant for the ritual but panics when the first gate begins to open. Two devils appear in Dante’s chamber and attack Nacht and Jack. Nacht dodges using Plumede’s Agility characteristic, but Jack crashes into a wall. Nacht realizes that the devils are of the highest order.
