The Defeated: 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls
Can this weeks episode top last weeks? What are Mikasa and Levi (two of the best soldiers so far) capable of doing and how would they do it? Those were some of the question I was waiting all week to be answered. We all knew Levi was skilled but to be able to singled handily take down an intelligent titan was amazing. I love Mikasa her love for Eren is admirable but she could have ruined Levi’s plan with her single mindedness. She needs to get a clearer head. The return home was rather daunting with the families of the dead soldiers being existed to see the family members again. Knowing that they were killed and being reminded that they had families was somber.
This reality prompted many of the soldiers to ask “How long will I live” or “How will I died”. Levi further showed his realist view of death or lack of sentiment when two soldiers pleaded with Commander Erwin to retrieve their comrades body. He told them that ” whether you have the body, dead is dead”. Dieter, one of those soldiers question whether Levi or Erwin ” have any human feelings at all”. Dieter being sentimental decided to get his friends body resulting in a bad situation. After, Levi showed that he did remember his fallen comrades by keeping a piece of their uniforms which he gave to Dieter.
Petra father talking so happily about his daughter was truly was the most heart breaking moment (I instantly thought of her brutal death). This episode didn’t feature a great deal of action but I think it was appropriate. This series is a great at creating engrossing narrative and building a supportive atmosphere. This episode manage to open with intense action then seamlessly shift into more depressing tone while maintain the series quality. Simply another great episode. So did you enjoy this episode like the last? Was it as sad for you as it was for me? What do you think of Levi’s sympathy?
