One Piece Episode 1166: “Encountering Loki – Gunko of the Knights of God”

Luffy happily eats the meat Hajrudin brought him as Jarul comments on how powerful the moose he hunted must have been. Hajrudin says he would gladly risk his life for Luffy. Jarul explains that humans rarely visit the Sun World of Elbaph. Most believe the Underworld is the entire country and run away out of fear of the wild beasts.

Meanwhile, Usopp tells the Giants about how he defeated Oars, a figure they know well for his brutality. The Giants are impressed. Some of them are surprised by Jinbe’s skin color, but he explains that Fish-Man Island has even more variety. A few Giants say they want to see a mermaid someday, which excites Sanji as he praises their beauty. Being surrounded by giant women already has him flustered, and they call him cute. Brook also draws attention since he is a living skeleton.

Nami is surprised that more Giants have not gone out to sea since she assumed they were all pirates. At the same time, Gerd forces Road to apologize for his earlier behavior. Road complies, though he seems oddly into the punishment. Zoro brushes it off but makes it clear that Road would have died if not for Usopp. This terrifies Road while the other Giants laugh at him for not checking the Straw Hats’ bounties. Gerd even tells Zoro he has permission to kill Road if he causes trouble again, which clearly bothers Road.

Roads dream and the truth of Sun God Nika

Road tries to justify his actions by saying he was chasing the dream of Elbaph: to become the Sun God and rule the world. Some Giants argue that the Sun God is a liberator, while others say he represents destruction or even laughter. The disagreement turns into a fight. Jarul explains to Luffy that Elbaph has an ancient text called “Harley,” but no one can properly translate it anymore, leading to many interpretations.

According to Harley, the world has been destroyed twice before, and Nika was involved both times. Jarul says that no matter what Nika represents, his presence always signals a major change. That is why those in power fear him and try to erase him from history. Luffy realizes this is who Bonney mentioned on Egghead. When Jarul describes Nika, Luffy starts to connect it to how people call him that in Gear Fifth, though he still does not fully understand the link to his Devil Fruit.

The Giants tell Luffy that growing up, everyone idolized Nika. Jarul explains that Harald and Loki both tried to be like him in their own way. When Luffy asks if Loki is a good guy, the Giants immediately shut that down. They tell him that even before Loki was born, Harald prophesized that his own son would kill him. Not long after Loki was born, he killed the family’s lucky horse.

Loki’s crimes

They also reveal that this all happened the same year Big Mom accidentally killed Jorul. Since then, Elbaph has been plagued by natural disasters and the loss of their queen. On top of that, Loki turned the Underworld into his personal playground. At just ten years old, he was already killing and taming its beasts, then unleashing them on the village.

His worst crime was killing Harald. Jarul’s injury came from trying to stop him. The Giants say all of this happened about six years ago, and it was Shanks himself who finally stopped Loki’s rampage. Luffy is shocked, especially when they tell him Shanks was here not too long ago.

On the outskirts of town, Zoro pulls Luffy aside after noticing he’s been acting strange. Luffy tells him about meeting Loki. Zoro says everything Loki told him has to be a lie since everyone in Elbaph hates him. Luffy admits he still wants to see Shanks, and if Loki knows where he is, he wants to find out. If Loki is lying, though, he says he’ll just beat him up.

The Knights if God find Loki

Zoro isn’t fully convinced either, since he never met Loki himself. In the end, they decide to check if his story is true. Nami joins them to guide the way as they take a Svarr to the castle to get the keys. Luffy questions why Road is tagging along. Nami happily explains that Road is her new servant after she zapped him again, and he didn’t seem to mind. She makes it clear, though, that even if they’re both navigators, he’s not getting close to her again.

Nami then casually asks Road if it would be a problem if all the treasure in the castle just “disappeared.” Zoro immediately realizes why she really joined them. Meanwhile, in the Underworld, the two hooded figures reveal themselves as members of the Knights of God. They find Loki and try to recruit him. Loki refuses, saying he won’t waste his only life becoming garbage like the World Nobles.

The woman, Gunko, mentions that every agent they sent to gather information on him disappeared after reporting a giant crow. Now that she’s seen him herself, she calls him insolent and says he deserves to die. Her partner warns her not to rush things just as a giant wolf appears behind them. Loki orders it to eat them.

To Loki’s surprise, Gunko easily subdues the wolf. She unravels her clothes like bandages, wraps them around its neck, and lifts it into the air. She asks Loki if he would reconsider if she spared it, but Loki tells the wolf to die in peace. He says he’ll feel sad and angry, but he won’t argue with how it dies. Instead, he’ll use those emotions to destroy the world.
