Attack on Titan Episode 7: Recap and Review

Episode 7 – “Assault”

Attack on Titan Season 4 episode 7, “Assault” raises the stakes as the Beast Titan and the Cart Titan join the Jaw Titan. They shoot the Scout Regiment down. Running out of power, Lara Tybur uses her power to impale Eren again. He blocks his neck in time. Falco Grice and Reiner both survived Eren’s transformation. However, Reiner has lost the will to live. Eren attempts to crack Lara’s crystal, only to break the Attack Titan’s teeth. He abandons the Titan, then creates a new one. Pieck, Porco, and Zeke are confident that they have the upper hand. Pieck states that “he Warriors are the ones currently controlling the battlefield because their opponents are limited in weapons and fuel, having arrived using omni-directional mobility gear without a supply line.” With the Marley military surrounding the interment zone, she believes the only obstacle is Levi.

However, this isn’t true. In the harbor, Marleyan fleet prepares to dock. Suddenly, Armin Arlet transforms into the Colossal Titan, destroying the fleet in a nuclear explosion. The Warriors realize they underestimated the Scouts. Porco charges at Eren, hoping that capturing the Founding Titan would end the conflict. Zeke is defeated by Levi, who strikes at his nape. The Beast Titan collapses in front of Magath, Falco, and Gabi. Levi triggers an explosion, forcing Magath and the children into cover. Elsewhere, the Scouts attack Pieck and the Panzer Unit. Sasha Braus snipes one member, Carlo. Pieck is then overwhelmed by Jean, when he hits her with a thunder spear near the eye. The rest of the Scouts bombard the Panzer Unit with Thunder Spears, killing them.

Eren is starting to lose it

Meanwhile, Porco reaches Eren. He bites off his hand, then rips out one of Eren’s eyes. In the barrage, Porco scratches the Lara’s crystal. An airship carrying Hange Zoe arrives. Hange explains the plan is to pick up the scouts, but they only have one shot at it. Porco tries to attack the ship, but Mikasa surprises him. She cuts off both his legs, leaving him at the mercy of Eren. The Attack Titan tosses Porco before pulling off both arms. Eren then jams the crystal containing Lara into the Jaw Titan’s mouth. Taking advantage of the Jaw Titan’s teeth, Eren crushes Lara like a walnut, while Porco begs him not to. After he kills Lara, Eren allows the blood and spinal fluid to flow into the Attack Titan’s mouth, gaining the War Hammer Titan’s ability. As Eren prepares to consume Porco’s Titan ability as well, Gabi and Falco call for Reiner to aid them. Reiner finally awakes, transforming into the Armored Titan.

Attack on Titan episode 7 was brutal. This series has conditioned us not to expect any easy battles and to prepare to see our favorite characters die. I thought I would side with the Scout Regiment only, but I found myself switch sides. Falco and Gabi are both innocent (at least where the Scouts are concerned) but I felt sorry for them. They have always been victims, but Eren specifically has caused them pain. I wonder if they will become like him. Continuing the endless circle of violence. Eren’s brutality is becoming troubling. I’m thinking that he’s going to become the villain, or at least the anti-hero. Eren has no regard for human life. It disappointed me that Levi and Mikasa didn’t shine. However, it’s clear that they are going to be important to the Paradise military force. Overall, Attack on Titan “Assault” was another breathtaking episode.

  1. EREN. YEAGER. I did not care for Eren when the series started. Seeing him now; I feel like I hate who he’s become- but also rooting for him to win all the same. I mean; after last season’s ending- I thought the last bit of “innocence” in him died. And now………now I think he’s doing what’s right in his mind. Much like a child would. I think he’s one of the most complex and intriguing protagonist in this era of Shonen.

    1. If Eren hadn’t suffered some much trauma he wouldn’t have become the bitter vengeful man he is now. Since the Marley are responsible for that trauma, I don’t blame him. It’s still hard to watch him get his revenge sometimes.
