Olruggio and Agott ride out with Dagda, the man who asked the witches for help. The episode briefly flashes back to show how they got there. When Agott volunteers, Qifrey hesitates, worried her need to prove herself could lead to a serious mistake. Even so, she insists she needs real field experience. Olruggio backs her up, saying he’ll take her and open a portal for the others.
The group prepares and heads out. Back in the present, Olruggio sets up portals and everyone arrives at a river where a wagon is stranded midstream. Qifrey uses a magic sword to push the water back while Olruggio rescues the three people inside. They resolve the situation quickly, drawing attention from the nearby villagers.
Will Agott and Coco use magic?
Afterward, Olruggio and Qifrey split up to inspect the rest of the river, each taking one apprentice. That leaves Coco and Agott behind. Things go wrong almost immediately. Custas, Dagda’s foster son, tries to recover items from the wagon but causes part of the riverbank to collapse. He’s injured and passes out, and Coco falls in with him. She’s okay, but her bag ends up in the water.
With the adults gone, Dagda and the others push Agott to act, and the pressure starts to get to her. Coco’s cries snap her back. Coco says she wants to help and asks for Olruggio’s rings. She manages to dry her tools, but now they face a bigger problem they need to cast a spell without anyone noticing.
The Knights Moralis
Agott thinks fast and summons a giant bird of light to distract the bystanders and signal Qifrey that they need help. At the same time, Coco notices Custas starting to wake up. She can’t levitate the rock blocking her from escaping with him, so she uses the spell she learned from Richeh and pulverizes it, turning it into sand.
After that, she flies Custas to safety and everyone celebrates. Still, their problems aren’t over. While Coco explains how she saved him, someone suddenly captures both her and Agott. They quickly realize the Knights Moralis are taking them into the sky.
Easthies, the deputy captain, interrogates them and accuses them of working with the Brimmed Caps. Coco insists she only used a harmless spell, but it doesn’t look that way. When they look down, everything around the rock has been reduced to sand. None of them can explain how it happened.
Now that they know Coco used the spell, Easthies moves to erase her memories.
