Solo Leveling Season 1, Episode 7 Review

Manager Woo is informed of the events that occurred during the C-Rank dungeon. Woo is largely uninterested until he hears that Sung Jinwoo was involved and Hwang Dongsuk was killed. Sung tries to get drunk and realizes it’s not working. He checks his “Quest Rewards,” window and sees that he was given a “Great Spell Caster Kandiaru’s Blessing: Health and Longevity,” a long lasting buff that grants immunity. This buff “disables toxic and abnormal conditions,” and “improves regenerative capacity.”

Yoo Jinho calls Jinwoo. He’s putting a strike team together and wants Sung’s help. Jinho wants to become a licensed guild master but he must complete twenty raids. So far he only has one. His father is trying to put together a guild, but he wants an S-Rank hunter to lead it. S-Rank hunters are rare and according to Sung there’s only 7. Sung seems to hold Jinho in low regard, calling him a “trust fund kid,” and seeing him as mostly manipulative. Jinho is trying to impress his father and completing dungeons with a E-Rank hunter would help.

Hwang’s brother wants blood

Jinho knows what many don’t, that Sung is stronger than his rank conveys. Sung turns down Jinho even rejecting his 30 billion dollar offer. That’s wild considering that Sung’s mother is so sick. Sung appears to be more arrogant than he use to be. I suspect that his terrible experience with the last dungeon has change his view on the world and harden his heart more. At night, Mr. Hwang’s brother seeks information on Jinho and Sung. He disrupts his guild mission to go an kill Jinho and Sung.

The next day Sung notices that he can exceed the limits of his daily strength training goals. He decides to test how far he can push it. The quest is limited to double. He gets assess to quest rewards: Full Recovery, Ability Points +10, and a choice between two random loot boxes. He chooses the “blessed” one. He receives a key to the S-Ranked Demon Castle. Inside the Demon King’s Castle is the ingredients for the “Elixir of Life,” which cures all illnesses. He thinks that if he gets the Elixir he can cure his mother.

Sung vs the Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus

Sung enters the dungeon and is greeted by the Hell’s Gatekeeper Cerberus. Sung charges the beast, making a series of shallow cuts. He tries to use his new ability Murderous Intent but its canceled out by the Cerberus. He manages to pierce the nose of the beast and inflict the “paralysis,” and “drain,” debuff’s. However, both debuff’s are canceled. The Cerberus bites Sung’s arm off and then steps on him. This knocks a massive chuck out of Sung’s HP. Sung receives a notification that says that the Cerberus used the “Rage” skill.

It’s abilities will be doubled and last for 3 minutes. Cerberus attacks him again and his HP drops below half. Sung has no choice but to use “Total Recovery.” Sung is overwhelmed by the Cerberus’s speed. When his HP reaches below 30 % his Willpower skill activates, lowering damage by 50%. Sung needs to hide and buys three potions from the menu. The potions don’t give enough and he buys a Kasaka’s Venom Gland.

Sung promises to return to hell

It increases physical damage by 20% but damages the muscle is damaged by 35%. However, because of Sung’s Great Spell Caster Kandiaru’s Blessing: Health and Longevity, Sung is immune to the negative effects of the poison. Sung tries to engage the Cerberus again but is still outclassed and ends up being bitten again. He stabs the Cerberus in the eye out of desperation.

After killing the beast, Sung gets a scroll to craft the Elixir of Life. It required three items that can only be found inside the dungeon. Sung knows that he barely survived the Cerberus that was guarding the gate so he decides that he won’t enter the dungeon until he’s stronger. Sung like many anime protagonist are favored but Sung has to work for his advantages. I wonder if that always will be true.
