One Piece Episode 1112 Recap and Review: “Clash! Shanks vs. Eustass Kid”

One Piece Episode 1112, “Clash! Shanks vs. Eustass Kid” sees the Yonko destroy one of the “Worst Generation,” without much effort. Eustass Kid is an interesting character. He feels like a “good” guy due to the fact that he like most pirates are enemies of World Government, however, unlike Luffy that standard of goodness in the series Kid is a murderer. Like most pirates, he hates the World Nobles, finding “the notion that they can just own whoever they wanted due to their untouchable status as “farce”. Apparently, the primary reason for Kid becoming a pirate was to rebel against the “scum,” that ruled the World.

The complex Pirate Eustass Kid

Another redeeming quality of Kid is his love of his crew. Most pirates to the existent they care for anyone, they care for their crew. This is best on display during the Wano arc. Kid and his crew were enslaved by Kaido forced to work under Kurozumi Family and Beasts Pirates. His relationship with Killer was touching. They grew up together and after Killer was forced to laugh after eating defective SMILE. Kid was willing to risk his life to save his crewmates. Killer’s manages to act as the “voice of reason,” to Kid and keeps him from making the most reckless decisions.

However, this isn’t one of those times. After Wano, Kid was jealous that Luffy, Shanks, Blackbeard, and Buggy are Yonko but not him. His overconfidence is on display as he gleefully threatens Elbaf and the Red Hair Pirates. He gathers metal objects to form a cannon to fire a Damned Punk. With Shank’s foresight ability, the Yonko sees the devastation Kid’s attack will cause. He personally launches himself at Kid and uses his Gryphon saber to unleash a Divine Departure (a attack first seen by Gol D. Roger).

Shank overwhelms the Kid Pirates

Shanks devastates the Kid Pirates with a single blow. Killer attempted to help but was KO’d as well. The rest of the Kid Pirates surrender and try to give Shanks the copies of the Road Ponegliff’s. Shanks doesn’t seem to care. I Gotta say I felt sorry for the Kid Pirates even though they had it coming. Shanks had no choice. Dorry and Borgy launch a single attack that splits the Victoria Punk in half and knocks Kid into the sea.

This episode features tremendous animation and is worth a watch. The encounter between Kid and Shanks mirrors the encounter between Blackbeard and Law. The outcome was the same. As I mentioned during that fight, the crews of the Kid and Heart Pirates are too weak compared to the crews of the Kid and Blackbeard Pirates. I can’t imagine that Law and Kid are dead but they will likely be out the series for a while.
