In Made in Abyss Episode 06, “Lurking,” Riko considers which part of her body she’ll exchange for Nanachi, half her organs, legs, or eyes. She decides but Majikaja stops her. Nanachi tells her to leave. Maaa and Majikaja drag Riko out of Belaf’s home as Riko begs Nanachi to return to their journey. Riko asks Vueko if she has anyway to get Nanachi back. Before she can answer a spear pierces the wall above them resulting in water gushing out. Vueko says that a “luring” has begun. As a result of the Narehate being unable to leave the village, they “lure” creatures into the village to hunt. According to Vueko this is done to “increase the value” of the village. However, the creature called a Fuzosheppu is overwhelming the villagers. When it heads towards Prushka, Riko takes off to save her.
Riko manages to reach Poriyon the jeweler before the beast. Poriyon claims it was “pleasant and sensual to work and perfect her whistle,” and returns Prushka, now shiny and new. Poriyon cannot leave with Riko and escape the Fuzosheppu because its “the workshop itself,” and cannot be moved. However, Poriyon attempts to stop the Fuzosheppu itself but is consumed alive by it. Fuzosheppu then heads to the market. There it encounters Juroimo, the third member of the three sages. Juroimo uses his “great sword,” a sticky weapon resembling a sharp pillar. However, it doesn’t work. Majikaja says that due to the “cramped and crowded space,” Juroimo cannot use the great sword’s “ancient power.”

Riko has a plan
Moogie and the other Narehate seek to hunt the creature, than allow it to attack the market. Riko refuses to allow the Narehate to meet their end so she forms a plan with Majikaja. She cuts off some of her hair and gives it to Majikaja so it will use its “fast body”. Riko rides Majikaja and the Fuzosheppu gives chase. It follows them until they pass through a reflective surface, which causes the creature to stop. Distracted, Riko orders some Narehate to ignite some fire causing an explosion, sending the Fuzosheppu flying upward into a net. Trapped the Narehate attack it with spears.
The Fuzosheppu stops moving and the Narehate rejoice. However, the creature isn’t dead yet and it grabs some of the Narehate including Maaa. Prushka spirit tells Riko to “call her,” and Riko blows the whistle and Reg comes to the rescue. The White Whistle releases the true potential of a relic like Reg. Powered by Riko and Prushka, Reg attacks the Fuzosheppu but the Queen already died. The Fuzosheppu isn’t a single creature but a hive that moves the entire nest. At this point Wazukyan appears to congratulate Riko. Afterward Riko asks the sage how she can get Nanachi back. Wazukyan tells her that a piece of Faputa would likely do it. Reg heads to speak with Faputa.
Vueko reveals to the Narehate that she was a member of the Ganja group and a former sage. Vueko wonders if Irumyuui brought Riko, Reg, and Nanachi to the village. She emotions that Reg must be a “true resident of the Golden City,” she even claims that Wazukyan was “scared,” when he witnessed Reg fighting. She then prepares to explain what Faputa actually wants. The stakes have increased in this episode. As I’ve been saying often in this arc I think the Narehate obsession with value is going result in them turning on the trio due to their “value.” Nanachi has already sold herself and Riko lost her hair. Their value have declined since arriving in this village. I think Reg will be made to sacrifice something in the coming episodes. I’m a little scared for the trio but I’m excited to see what happens.
