Reno has been equipped with the suit from Kaiju No. 6 and he’s improving at a high rate. He’s being tested to see if he can handle No. 6. Reno is only allowed to activate the suit for 10 min. The use of the suit will limit his life. However, when Reno begins to charge towards the Kaiju they’re hunting he slips on some ice the suit produces. Meanwhile, Iharu Furuhashi struggles to accept his limitations. He’s reaching his peak and it’s no enough for him. His feels are made worst when Reno saves him.
Reno engages with the Kaiju directly, releasing it’s combat power. He seems to become obsessed with using more and more of it’s power. Reno is motivated by the fear of his friends being harmed. While his strength and speed increases, his muscles begin to tear as he moves recklessly. He also uses his ice to block others from helping him. His muscles continue to tear, as his bones begin to fracture. His leg then fractures completely. He haunted by his fear of being “weak.” Furuhashi breaks through the ice to help Reno.
Furuhashi has Reno’s back
To everyone’s surprise, Furuhashi steps up to help. He carries Reno on his back. As the rest of the Defense Force engages with the Kaiju, Furuhashi plans on creating an opening for Reno to strike at the core. The episode ends with him heading towards the Kaiju. I’ve said this before, I like how Kaiju No. 8 focuses on a number of characters no just the main one. Kafka was barely shown, even though he was Reno’s main motivation for getting stronger.
I’m glad this series is showing that even the stronger characters have to work hard to reach their potential. The Kaiju weapons cost the user tremendously. While I fully expect Reno to get use to it and become stronger, but he won’t do it without effort and struggle.
