Kafka finally returns to battle as Kaiju No. 8. Together with Gen Narumi he takes out two Kaiju No. 9 clones. But No. 9’s ability to split his body shows he has more tricks waiting for the Defense Force. Gen remembers No. 9’s warning about bigger plans and doesn’t let his guard down.

Even though Gen acts immature outside of battle, everyone sees him as the future of the Defense Force. As First Division Captain he proves again he’s the kind of ally you want in a fight. Still, he feels uneasy after the win—and he’s right.

Kaiju No. 9’s real body suddenly appears inside the Defense Force command base. He goes straight for Isao Shinomiya. This new form is stronger and scarier than before. No. 9 clashes with the Director, and the fight looks bad for Isao.

Kaiju No. 9 true motives

Kaiju No. 9’s goal is finally revealed. He wants to kill Isao Shinomiya and take the power of Kaiju No. 2 hidden in his suit. If he succeeds, the borrowed strength returns to a Kaiju, making No. 9 even more dangerous. Instead of the Defense Force hunting him, No. 9 flips the script. Now he’s hunting soldiers with numbered weapons so he can keep getting stronger. That puts Mina and the others in serious danger.

Everyone is ordered to evacuate, but one technician stays behind. Inspired by Isao, they refuse to let him fight alone. It shows just how dire the situation is. In his prime, Isao could have beaten No. 9. But now, with No. 9’s power increase and his ability to adapt to near-death blows, the odds are against him.

The fight is brutal. Isao unleashes the full power of Kaiju No. 2 just to stand a chance, but his body begins to give out. In the middle of battle, he reflects on his regrets—especially the loss of his wife, Hikari Shinomiya. Even so, those memories fuel him to make one final stand.

Isao Shinomiya’s final gambit

Isao Shinomiya isn’t afraid to die. After everything he’s lost and with his trust in the next generation, he stands his ground and orders his subordinates to run. He knows fleeing would be pointless anyway since Kaiju No. 9 would track him down no matter what. Instead, he unleashes the full power of Kaiju No. 2 for one final, explosive attack.

Pushing his body past its limits, Isao delivers one of the strongest blows in the series. It’s a clear example of his unbreakable resolve—fighting not for himself but so Kikoru and the others can live on. Even if he falls here, he’s confident the next generation will carry on his fight. Just as No. 9 plotted to steal his body, Isao made his own preparations to make sure his death wouldn’t be meaningless.

But in the end, Kaiju No. 9 survives. Worse, it seizes the chance to take Isao’s body for itself. Helpless against the Kaiju’s power, the director is consumed, forced into becoming part of the very monster he fought to destroy. Kafka and Gen rush in, and Kikoru follows, but they’re all too late to save him.
