Kafka is admitted into the Defense Force, along with all the expected elites candidates. Many of the higher ups were going to eliminate Kafka from the force. Soshiro Hoshina speaks up for him. He wants to bring Kafka into his platoon as a cadet and give him more training. Mina gives a commencement speech. It reminded me of the speech Erwin give in Attack on Titan. During that speech Kafka interrupts her speech and Mina punishes him with 100 push ups. Kafka struggles to do it but he’s cheered on by the other cadets.
The recruits get closer
Kikoru asks to see Kafka and Reno in private. There they discuss his next steps. Kafka thinks he can tell the Defense Force and they’ll be able to cure him. Kikoru warns him that the Defense Force is more likely to do experiments on him (they make weapons out of numbered Kaiju) if they don’t out right kill him. According to Kikoru when a Kaiju is strong enough to get numbered the Defense Force uses it’s body parts to create “special weapons.” Back at the training, Reno, Kikoru, Aoi and Iharu compete for the quickest time shooting targets. Of course Kikoru dominates them.
Kafka’s time is the worst but he does manage to get his combat power up to 1 from 0. Hoshina reminds him that at this rate he’ll be fired in three months. Afterward, the recruits bond in the hot spring and Kafka learns that most of them are inspired by Mina, who Reno calls their generation’s “superhero.” When Kafka reveals that he and Mina were childhood friends, the other recruit corner him for more information. The rest of the episode the recruit get closer as they train, eat, sleep, and study together. In the last minute an alarm alerts the recruits. There first mission is ready.
