Jujutsu Kaisen returns after two years for the much anticipated second season. This season will cover the Gojo’s Past Arc and one of the best manga/anime arcs the Shibuya Incident Arc. Gojo’s Past Arc follows a younger Satoru Gojo, then a second-year student. Along with Suguru Geto, Gojo is tasked with protecting the Star Plasma Vessel from assassination. I reviewed the arc from the manga series and expect the anime adaptation to follow the manga closely. This season MAPPA changed the animation style. The characters style feel less detailed, fluid with more muted colors. I instantly fell in love with this style but I wonder if other fans will agree.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Episode 1: Hidden Inventory opens with Grade 1 sorcerer Mei Mei and Grade 2 Sorcerer Utahime are investigating a haunted house. Mei Mei notices that the hallway continues to repeat and they’re likely trapped in the cursed spirits innate domain. However, Mei Mei doesn’t think the curse spirit is very strong. All they need to do is escape it’s barrier. To test Utahime, she asks “what their best course of action.” Utahime lays out a complicated explanation of the barrier’s limits. Before they can complete their plan, Gojo rips the mansion apart. While inside, the girls sense of time was distorted and Tokyo Jujutsu High sent Satoru Gojo, Suguru Geto, and Shoko Leiri to help.

The Superiority of Geto and Gojo
Gojo’s arrival shows the stark different between Gojo and weaker Sorcerer like Utahime. The former can use brute force to best curses, while, Utahime must use her intellect. It’s this difference that feeds Gojo and Geto’s sense of superiority. However, Geto still seems to value protecting the weak whereas Gojo is more disrespectful (something he continues to be until this day). The rest of the episode largely just introduce the stakes for the rest of the arc. Geto and Gojo arrive just in time to save the Star Plasma Vessel from dual , Q and Time Vessel Association.
Geto and Gojo get to show off the skills and how large the gap between them and the other sorcerers. This theme will continue throughout the arc. However, both Geto and Gojo will meet a challenge in fan favorite Toji Fushiguro. I can’t wait for this arc to get into full swing.
