Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2, episode 6, takes a detour from the typical episode of the series. Instead of focusing on flashbacks of her old adventure with Himmel, this episode is in the present. Demons attack and slaughter a village in the Rufen Region. First-Class Mage, Genau, encounters a demon, who lies about his “young son”, while pleading for mercy. Genau kills the demon without much consideration. He’s seen the tricks demons attempt and wasn’t falling for it. It turns out that this village was his hometown.
Genau comes across as a man without much joy. He’s stoic and cold. While looking through the ruins, he admits that he has “a lack of affection for the place, yet the sight causes him to feel lonely.” Under some rubble, he finds an injured man. Genau carries the man, a former childhood friend, to the church. Genau tries to provide comfort to the man, telling him that Methode can heal him. Tragically, he dies along the way.
A quadruple-wielding demon
At the church, Genau tells Methode that first-class mages should be the ones to fight and die, not the innocent villagers. Suddenly, Genau senses Frieren, Fern, and Stark. He and Frieren almost attack each other, however, Genau notices her and stops. Frieren remarks on Genau’s “bloodlust”, and compares it to that of a demon. Methode, Fern, Genau, Stark, and Frieren discuss the demons, especially the one responsible for killing the Village Garrison Captain.
Stark and Methode analyze the slashing movements of the demon. They deduce that the demon is likely a quadruple wielder. When Stark relay’s this information, Genau seems familiar with the demon. The demonic presence at Northern Plateau is more than the previous locations. Frieren and the others are preparing to have to fight for their lives.
