Demon Slayer Season 4 Episode 4: “To Bring a Smile to One’s Face”

Tanjiro continues to go from Hashira to Hashira hoping to learn from them, his next stop was Muichiro Tokito. I got to be honest, I’ve been underwhelmed with this season so far. They have been teasing us with the Hashira since the first episode, particularly, Sanemi Shinazugawa and Obanai Iguro. The training is okay but I don’t care about the lower level demon slayers that won’t matter. Demon Slayer hasn’t made the low level demon slayers important except for being cannon fodder.

Tanjiro breezing through the trainings isn’t helping my interest much either. While I do find the comradery that being built heartwarming its not why I watch this series. Tanjiro’s impact on the Hashira is notable. Muichiro is often cold and calculating but when Tanjiro arrives he light’s up. That influence is interesting to see but not enough to carry this arc.

Muichiro vs Sanemi and Obanai

I’m anticipating these early episodes will be the calm before the storm and my opinion will likely change. However, I think that Demon Slayer has missed an opportunity to expand some of the training between the Hashira. In this episode, Sanemi and Obanai face off against Muichiro. This could have been more exciting than what happened.

Muichiro rushes past Obanai and engages with Sanemi. He seems to be the superior fighter between the three of them, It’s a brief fight that is mostly hidden in smoke and mist. I wanted more. While I think a full blown fight was out of the question something in-between the two extremes would have been nice. I don’t want to be a complete hater, I did think the paper plane contest was fun. However, I think most of these episodes are filler.

The most interesting part of this episode is when Nakime the new Upper Moon Four is able to locate Muichiro as he runs into the area Sanemi and Obanai are. This means she knows where the camp is and therefore Muzan Kibutsuji will appear soon.
