Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 9 – “Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito,” concludes the battle between Muichiro and the Upper Rank 5, Gyokko. At the end of this episode I loved Muichiro. His dry personality really starts to feel charming and funny, especially when fighting the sensitive Gyokko. Muichiro begins to insult Gyokko in order to get a rise out of him. He manages to trigger him after insulting the symmetry of his vase. Pissed, Gyokko attacks with Blood Demon Art: Ten Thousand Gliding Slime Fish and Muichiro counters with Mist Breathing, Sixth Form: Lunar Dispersing Mist.
I never get tired of the mist effects in this fight. Muichiro basically dominates the rest of this fight. Whatever Gyokko throws at him Muichiro counters with ease. Gyokko transforms into a medusa like creature and develops an ability to turn anything he touches into fishes. Muichiro is simply too fast and when he uses Mist Breathing, Seventh Form: Obscuring Clouds, Gyokko couldn’t locate him. Muichiro successfully decapitates Gyokko. When Upper Rank 5 won’t shut up Muichiro slices the his head into little pieces.
There was no sob story showing how Gyokko came to be a demon, leaving us wondering what happened to him. The rest of the episode steps up the next fight with Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and Hantengu’s hatred in the form of Zohakuten. Obviously, setting up a battle of love verses hate. Mitsuri makes a grand interest. Swinging her sword she freeing Tanjiro from the clutches of the wood dragon. With apparently only two episode remaining I’m excited to see what the Love Hashira can do.
