These two episodes, One Piece Episode 1121 and 1122, are a showcase of One Piece’s amazing animation while focusing on the relationship between Monkey D. Garp and his two most prominent Marine students, Kuzan and Koby. In a series of flashbacks we see that the two disciples showed similar grit while trying to train with the legendary hero. The difference being that Kuzan now has joined the Blackbeard Pirates and Koby is still coming up the ranks in the Marines. As a result, of his lack of experience Koby is unsure of himself causing him to hesitate. This leaves himself open for an attack form the invisible Shiryu, however, Garp interferes a is stabbed in the gut.

Series wounded, Garp is at an disadvantage when he faces Kuzan again. Still he’s game no matter what. Using Haki he Knock Kuzan down once again and attacks Pizarro who tries to destroy the departing Marine ship. Using his devasting Galaxy Divide. Unfortunately this isn’t enough to defeat Pizarro leaving the marines exposed.

Koby’s Honesty Impact and Garp’s Farwell

Koby has visions of Pizarro crushing the Marine ship. He springs to action using his Honestly Impact to destroy Pizarro’s massive hand saving the Marines. With Koby and the others safe on the ship, Garp delivers his final message to leave him behind. On the ground, a laughing Garp is impaled by a massive ice sickle, as Kuzan tries to hide his tears behind ice. I think Garp will die but not before Luffy and Blackbeard face off. Kuzan’s ice sickle may have saved his life considering that it in the same location as his earlier sword wound.

It was exciting to see Garp, Koby, and Kuzan fight. Despite his old age Garp is still a powerful Marine. Koby is still finding his footing and needs much more time but it seems like he’ll be as strong as Garp on day. One Piece will unfortunately be on hiatus until April 2025, I haven’t checked but I think it’s starting to catch up to the manga. Regardless, I can’t wait until One Piece returns.
