The theme of this episode and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End as a series is that “a pointless adventures with comrades were the ones that left timeless memories”. This episode’s “pointless” adventure is the search for a hot spring. It’s 29 years after Himmel’s death, and Frieren, Fern, and Stark head to the Etwas Mountains. In a nearby, village they meet an elder. He tells them that the village they’re looking for has been deserted for three decades.
Frieren and Stark debate whether to travel through to find the secret hot springs. They’re uncertain that the spring is still there. Stark is adamant that they search for this hot spring because he was told about them. As they travel, Frieren and the others camp and fight a boar. Suddenly, the party encounters a three-headed lizard. After a taxing fight, Fern and the others finally reach the hot spring.
Stark wants to date Fern
The hot spring is shallow, only deep enough for a footbath. They soak there feet and discuss why Stark wanted to visit the spring. He reveals that Eisen told him about it. We get a flashback, where Eisen tells a young Stark about the adventure. Despite spending time together Fern and Stark conclude that it wasn’t worth it.
In the Fortified City of HeiB, Frieren is constantly taking baths in hot spring. Stark plans to get his axe sharpened. Suddenly, he asks Fern out on a date. Fern is shocked but it doesn’t show on her face. She agrees to the date and promptly leaves. Confusing Stark. He tries to asks Frieren about the date. It goes surprisingly well considering Frieren ignorance. She does know Fern well and is able to show Stark some things Fern might like.
Fern as Frieren about dating but she’s not helpful. Fern goes asleep annoyed.
