En serves up raw meat sushi for “Nikaido,” Ebisu, and Fujita, showing off the care he puts into his cooking. The sushi is shaped like mushrooms, which should already be a red flag. Sure enough, the moment they eat it, everything changes.
Without warning, they’re transported into a completely blank space. Fujita and Ebisu notice Chota looks normal again. That’s when En shows up and explains what’s going on. None of this is real. They’re all dreaming, and the sushi is the cause. It’s his newest invention, something he plans to sell called the “Dream Machine Mushroom.” Even though Chota’s body looks normal, his mind hasn’t changed, so he still sees himself the same way.
Fujita decides to test the limits and turns himself into a massive, muscular giant. En then questions “Nikaido” about her appearance. She admits she chose Chota’s form because she thought he might be missed. En immediately shuts that down, saying the sight of Chota makes him sick and ordering her to change back, which clearly hits a nerve.
The Dreamworld turns into a nightmare
The setting shifts again, this time to a dream version of Hole. Fujita summons dream versions of Kaiman and Nikaido and casually kills them with magic. En asks Ebisu what she dreamed about but quickly regrets it when he sees how ridiculous it is. When he tries to talk to “Nikaido,” she suddenly snaps and yells, “I HATE YOU,” catching him completely off guard.
Fujita keeps going, now creating dream versions of En and Shin just to hear them praise him and give him the approval he’s been wanting. Meanwhile, Ebisu wanders off to a bus stop, where she runs into a dressed-up version of herself.
Elsewhere, the episode cuts to a series of flashbacks. Someone badly injured is calling out for Prof. Kasukabe. Kasukabe tries to remember the face of a wax figure he saw before, hinting there’s a connection, but Shin snaps him out of it before he can piece it together.
Risu’s past
Back in the present, everyone’s gathered in Shin’s room, eating and talking. 13’s wound is completely healed, and Kasukabe reveals he actually met his wife. The conversation turns to the wax figure, which looks like the Cross-Eyes Boss. Kasukabe says he might know who it is, but to confirm it, they’ll have to go back to Hole.
Risu is left hanging from the ceiling after his fight with Dokuga, calm despite everything. He’s actually satisfied. Dokuga had the chance to kill him but didn’t, which tells Risu he understands his magic. From there, Risu reflects on how he became a Cross-Eyes. Labeled useless for not being able to produce Smoke, he was exactly the kind of person the Cross-Eyes take in.
Back at the Magic School, Risu meets Aikawa on his first day. Aikawa immediately stands out, stepping in to stop a teacher from beating a weak student. The next day, Aikawa notices some classmates badly injured and wearing strange bracelets. They try to brush it off, but something clearly isn’t right.
Later, that same teacher approaches Risu, trying to sell him “Magic Enhancer Bracelets.” Risu already knows it’s a scam and proves it by stabbing his own arms with spikes. The teacher then tries to use erase-type magic on him, but Aikawa suddenly drops in from the ceiling. Together, they take the teacher down, leaving him unconscious and without his arms. To deal with the body, Risu calls in a Cross-Eyes truck. Afterward, Aikawa finally introduces himself properly.
Kaiman’s past
In Zagan, Kaiman, Nikaido, and Natsuki arrive and barely step off the bus before Kaiman runs off on his own. He heads to an alley he vaguely remembers and ends up at the ruins of the South Zagan Magical Training School. His head starts bleeding again, and Nikaido and Natsuki go after him. Inside the abandoned school, Kaiman feels uneasy. He catches a quick glimpse of what looks like Aikawa carrying a body bag. He immediately brushes it off as a hallucination, telling himself there’s no way it could be real.
Kaiman falls into a lucid dream where he recalls a conversation with Risu about disposing of a body. The memory shifts when Risu appears again as a vengeful spirit, haunting him. Kaiman wakes up screaming and realizes the curse has been inside him the entire time.
Nikaido and Natsuki find him collapsed on the floor. His face is severely damaged and he’s unable to speak, stuck in a catatonic state. Nikaido notices the cross in his lizard eyes has disappeared, and he slowly starts to come back to himself. When asked if he discovered he’s a Magic User, Kaiman manages to respond in fragments, saying he went to the school and met Risu. A sudden headache interrupts him again as he becomes overwhelmed, sensing something “horrible” inside him and worrying he might hurt Nikaido. She simply hugs him, reassuring him that everything will be fine.
An empty grave
Back in Hole, at the hospital, Noi opens a Magic Door. Kasukabe thanks Shin and Noi, but they quickly shift focus to the wax figure the professor saw at the cabin. Kasukabe returns with his old research files on sorcerers, including what he considers his most important findings. He explains that the Cross-Eyes Boss appears in multiple photos, but none of them show his face, much to Shin and Noi’s frustration. Kasukabe reveals the Boss was once his test subject, suggesting he may have originally been a human from Hole, though it remains only a theory. They then head to the test subject’s former home.
At the apartment building, no one answers the door, so Noi kicks it down. Inside, they find Mr. Coleman in a wheelchair, with a severed head resting on his lap. Thinking he may be dead, Noi considers taking the head to Kikurage to revive him. Mr. Coleman then suddenly wakes up—he was only asleep. He explains he was attacked by Magic Users in the past and left with his current condition. After introductions, he takes them to his grandson’s grave, who was killed by sorcerers 13 years ago.
At the grave site, Shin and Noi begin digging up the coffin while Mr. Coleman yells at them to stop. When they finally open it, they discover the coffin is completely empty.
