Dandadan Episode 21: “I Want to Rebuild the House”

Advertisements

Okarun uses Turbo Granny’s speed to take the advantage and lands a huge headbutt that knocks the Evil Eye into the Ayase house. After using two All-Outs, Okarun loses his transformation. The Evil Eye stands back up and demands he transform again. Aira and Momo worry, but Okarun refuses their help. Turbo Granny notices he’s trembling as the Evil Eye moves in. When told to keep fighting, Okarun refuses, saying the Evil Eye is weaker than him.

Shocked, the yokai denies it, but Okarun sets strange conditions: he’ll fight if the Evil Eye gets stronger, targets only him, and only on Tuesdays. Turbo Granny explains to Momo that Okarun is tricking him, since the Evil Eye is childish. The yokai agrees, but first gives Okarun his underwear to hold until the day he kills him. He then releases Jiji’s body. Jiji is comforted by Okarun, while the others turn away when they realize he’s naked. Seiko bluntly calls it out.

Manjiro wants to become a “Sleeping Bag Bootuber”

Manjiro takes the Evil Eye’s underwear to his shrine, treating it as a cursed object. Seiko warns him to stay alert. Momo jokes he should worship a real Tsuchinoko instead, but Manjiro says his new goal is to be a “Sleeping Bag Bootuber.” After saying goodbye, Jiji’s parents thank Seiko, though she feels guilty about not doing more. Okarun and Aira are surprised at her change in attitude. Momo notices Jiji looking embarrassed and turning away.

Seiko encourages him to keep training. Before leaving, Jiji apologizes to everyone and promises not to forget what they’ve done for him. Momo thanks Okarun and Aira. Okarun casually says he’ll see her tomorrow, but Momo wants a more heartfelt farewell, which leads to some teasing between her and Aira. After the others leave, Seiko suggests going to a bathhouse to avoid the mess at home, which excites Momo and Turbo Granny.

After the bathhouse, Momo and Seiko return home. Their house is still ruined, but Seiko insists they’ll rebuild, even though they spent their last money on the trip. Momo offers to help with her wages, but Seiko refuses, saying part-time jobs aren’t reliable. Momo suggests asking their guests, but Seiko shuts that down too, reminding her not to underestimate grandmothers. Near the torii gate, they find an alien trespassing and immediately kick him out.

Ludris, a construction specialist

Okarun arrives with Aira, Mr. Mantis Shrimp, and Chiquitita. He introduces Ludris, a construction specialist and Mr. Mantis Shrimp’s friend. Momo realizes they kicked him earlier, which clearly annoys him, though Mr. Mantis Shrimp insists it was an honor. Seiko is reluctant, but they convince her to accept their help. Ludris reveals his nanoskin tech, which lets them rebuild the Ayase house using their thoughts.

Once finished, Seiko thanks Mr. Mantis Shrimp, who claims Ludris was honored to help, though Seiko isn’t so sure. Momo thanks Okarun and Aira, and Okarun admits the house feels like home to him too. Momo invites him to visit anytime. As everyone leaves, Seiko notes they’ll have to repay the debt. She also tells Momo she can’t make her bento today, but Momo reassures her. Meanwhile, Jiji is dragged by his mom to help with repairs, but when the Enjoji family arrives, they’re shocked to find the house already restored. Momo steps outside and asks them to keep it down since her grandmother is resting.

Jiji walks to school with Momo and apologizes for the trouble he caused. When she asks about the Evil Eye, he admits he has transformed several times but claims the yokai has behaved since his promise to Okarun. Momo offers her support, but Jiji teases her about having a crush, leaving her flustered.

Okarun’s new enemy

At school, Jiji is quickly surrounded by excited female classmates. Momo gets annoyed as he flirts, but when one offers him a drink, the Evil Eye suddenly appears. This time he keeps Jiji’s clothes intact and casually threatens the girls before Momo pulls him away. She demands he let Jiji take control, but he refuses, and nearby girls mistake their quarrel for flirting.

The Evil Eye then spots the soccer team and mistakes their ball for his grudge ball, rushing onto the field to kick it. The players think he wants to join. With no hot drinks left in the vending machines, Momo resolves to keep watch over him. Throughout class he scribbles and shouts, then at lunch refuses to use chopsticks and eats noodles with his hands.

After school, Momo meets Miko and Muko, who suspect Jiji is possessed by the Apartment-Complex Ghost. They show her a picture of the floating golden ball. Meanwhile, in class, Okarun is shocked when a classmate declares himself his enemy.
