Dandadan Episode 10 Recap and Review

Advertisements

Momo, Okarun, and Aira are questioned by Joo about whether being caught in their underwear was a case of bullying. Not long after, the nurse steps out for a phone call, leaving the trio alone. As they wrestle with their embarrassment, Aira confesses to Momo that she accidentally activated Acrobatic Silky’s powers during their fight with the Serpos, blaming her connection to the yokai’s aura. Okarun chimes in, theorizing that this connection might make her a target for aliens who could be after humans with yokai abilities, like him and Aira. He speculates this might tie to his missing kintama, but Momo and Aira are too distracted by their earlier humiliation to pay much attention. When Aira announces she’ll pin the blame on Momo, Momo agrees just to avoid the hassle. Aira then leaves with her friends.

Now alone with Okarun, Momo demands an explanation about what happened with Aira during lunch. Okarun admits that he fell on Aira while trying to push her away when she tried to kiss him. Suspicious, Momo presses him on why they were somewhere private in the first place. Okarun awkwardly confesses that he’d been secretly training to get stronger and didn’t want her to know because he wanted to impress her. Amused, Momo teases him, urging him to explain why it’s so important for her to think he’s cool. Embarrassed, Okarun tries to leave but reassures her he won’t blame her for the incident like Aira did. Just as he’s about to walk out, Momo seems ready to respond but is interrupted when her friends, Miko and Muko, show up, having heard about the fiasco. When they demand details, Momo avoids specifics, prompting Miko to guess that she and Aira fought over Okarun while in their underwear—a claim Momo flatly denies.

The Dover Demon arrives

In Class 2-D, Aira plays the victim, soaking up the sympathy of her classmates while secretly enjoying how everything is going her way. But her smugness fades fast when she overhears them trashing Momo, accusing her of harassment and using the rumors as proof she’s a terrible person. Feeling a surge of guilt, Aira confesses to the class that she made it all up and begs them to stop badmouthing Momo. The confession leaves everyone stunned as she rushes out of the room.

Outside, while moping about what she just did, Aira runs into Momo. Momo wastes no time asking if Aira really pinned the blame on her like she’d planned. Aira owns up, but Momo sees right through her, noticing Aira’s isolation and calling her out. Frustrated, Aira barely has time to respond before the Dover Demon shows up, talking about how he has to provide for his family. Ready for a fight, Momo and Aira prepare to defend themselves, but the Demon collapses, bleeding some weird white fluid everywhere.

The Dover Demon wakes up later in the Ayase household, groggy and surrounded by Momo, Okarun, Seiko, and Aira. Momo tells her grandma that the Demon proves aliens exist, but Seiko, unimpressed, insists it’s just a kappa. After patching him up, Aira asks what they’re going to do with him, worried he might trick them again. The Demon stirs, and everyone tenses up until Momo warns him not to try anything since Seiko’s got their backs. Then the Demon notices a plate of curry in front of him. Momo explains they made it for him, even though they have no clue what he eats. Overwhelmed by their unexpected kindness, the Demon breaks down in tears and swears he’ll never be a threat to them again.

Jiji, Momo’s first crush appears

After dinner with Momo, Okarun, Seiko, Aira, and Turbo Granny, the Dover Demon opens up about his struggle to get money for his sick son’s blood transfusions. The pressure has pushed him into dangerous outlaw work. Trying to help, Okarun offers to sell his kintama, but Momo jumps in, pointing out that this wouldn’t cover the ongoing costs of daily transfusions. Okarun, however, is determined to do something. Aira backs him up, even promising to recover the kintama once it’s sold, but Momo warns her to stay out of it. Despite Okarun’s willingness to sacrifice, the Dover Demon refuses, not wanting to trouble them further. He turns to leave, but Seiko stops him, sniffing out something in his blood. She offers him a cart of milk, which he admits is like blood for his kind. Seiko then suggests they ask a farmer for a cow to take back for his son. Grateful, the Dover Demon accepts. As he boards his ship with the cow in tow, he thanks everyone and promises to repay their kindness.

Not long after, Momo gets on her knees alongside Okarun and Aira, begging Seiko to buy them new uniforms. Seiko agrees to cover Okarun and Aira’s but tells Momo she’ll only get hers if she does a Hiroshi Abe impression. Seiko has seen right through Momo’s attempt to milk her for money. Reluctantly, Momo agrees, only to be tasked with answering the door mid-impression. When she opens it, she’s shocked to see Jiji, her childhood friend and first crush. Seiko casually drops this info, leaving Okarun dumbfounded.

Conclusion

Dandadan episode 10 introduces us to two new characters, sexy nurse, Joo, and Momo’s childhood crush, Jiji. We don’t get much from either but they both have potential to be interesting. Joo doesn’t feel like she’ll be a major character, but will likely be a thorn in the side of the trio. Jiji probably is going to join the crew and become a rival for Okarun. The most interesting part of this episode was the Dover Demon. Dandadan humanized him which was unexpected. I wonder if he might join as well or he’ll return at a later time. Regardless, this series keeps the viewers on our toes.
