Caitlyn uses the Kiramman Key to tap into the Undercity’s ventilation system—a network originally developed by House Kiramman to trap and store the suffocating smog of the Gray. Deciding to turn it into a weapon, Caitlyn deploys it in the strike team’s pursuit of Jinx. With the Gray’s overwhelming effects, they neutralize the Undercity gangs, leaving the last Chem-Barons either arrested or dead. While searching the vents, they find Heenot tied upside-down to a propeller. As they try to free him, horrifying dolls resembling the Strike Team drop from above—a chilling warning from Jinx.

After Heenot is freed, he reveals that Jinx is heading for the old tunnels and has plans involving the ventilation system. Despite his cooperation, Caitlyn orders Heenot to be taken into custody. Concerned by Caitlyn’s growing ruthlessness, Vi asks to speak with her privately. Knowing Jinx is aware of their presence, Vi begs Caitlyn to let Maddie, Steb, and an injured Loris return to Piltover, fearing Jinx’s trap. Vi reaffirms her resolve to take Jinx down but implores Caitlyn not to lose herself in vengeance, especially after Cassandra’s death. Caitlyn reassures her, and the two share a quiet, tender kiss before facing what lies ahead.

Ambessa begins her scheme

Salo seeks treatment for his crippled legs through Shimmer, under the care of a Vastaya named Lest. The session is cut short when Lest senses someone approaching. Moments later, Ambessa strides in and orders Lest to leave. She wastes no time criticizing Salo for his recent failures, particularly letting Caitlyn overrule him in the last Council meeting. Salo defends himself, pointing out that the Kiramman name carries more weight in Piltover than his authority does. Ambessa dismisses his excuses and commands him to rally Piltover’s influential families for a grand assembly at the Council Room.

Elsewhere, Mel sneaks backstage at Piltover’s theater during a performance. Lest, her secret informant, is waiting for an arranged meeting. However, Lest wants out. Fearful of being exposed and scapegoated, she pleads to retire from her role as Mel’s spy. Mel tries to calm her, insisting that Lest’s work is vital to keeping Ambessa from plunging Piltover into chaos. Reluctantly, Lest shares what she overheard: Ambessa and Salo plan to gather Piltover’s great houses, likely to position Salo as a puppet leader with Ambessa pulling the strings. Before disappearing, Lest hands Mel a specialized Shimmer dart—perfect for eliminating Salo—should the need arise.

Later, Elora confirms Lest’s intel about the gathering of Piltover’s noble families. She also uncovers details about Mel’s brother’s mysterious death, which had led to Ambessa being stripped of her possessions. Mel realizes her mother is growing desperate and begins planning to use the Shimmer dart to ensure her control over the situation.

Jayce, Ekko, and Heimerdinger investigate Hextech

Jayce, Ekko, and Heimerdinger discuss the dangerous overuse of Hextech and Viktor’s “Wild Runes” theory. They suspect Arcane anomalies might be behind the strange corruption pattern spreading through the leaves of the tree at Ekko’s base. Jayce realizes the tree was affected because it’s rooted underground and leads them to investigate the Hex Vault hidden deep below. When Jayce opens the massive doors, Ekko is furious to discover the core of the Hex Gates is using the same utility ducts that supply clean water and power to the Undercity.

He pieces together that this shared system is the reason the corruption spread to their tree. Their heated argument is interrupted when Heimerdinger notices something alarming—the corruption pattern is also present inside the Vault. As he examines it more closely, the core suddenly reacts, engulfing all three in a blinding white void. They reappear in an otherworldly space, standing before a massive, mutating orb. Jayce stares, speechless, as he tries to comprehend what he’s seeing.

Vi and Jinx face off

Meanwhile, Caitlyn and Vi venture deeper into the Undercity’s chasm of vents, following a trail of canisters marked with Jinx’s chaotic graffiti. The path leads them to a vast underground hall, its towering columns plastered with more of Jinx’s work. Vi halts, sensing this is where her sister is hiding. She turns to Caitlyn with a grim warning: if she gets a clear shot, she can’t hesitate. Caitlyn nods, and Vi steps forward, calling out to her sister—but for the first time, she uses the name “Jinx.” The reply comes as an echo, taunting and sharp. Vi and Caitlyn stay alert, scanning the shadows, as Jinx mocks Vi for siding with the Enforcers and their cruelty with the Gray. Vi retorts, declaring that Jinx is no longer the sister she remembers. Determined, Vi vows to stop her.

Suddenly, Jinx appears—or so it seems. Caitlyn fires, but the shot only shatters a mirrored decoy meant to lure her out. From afar, Isha signals Sevika to Caitlyn’s position, setting the stage for another confrontation. With Caitlyn drawn away, Vi is left to face Jinx alone. The tension snaps as the sisters clash, their long-buried emotions erupting into a fierce battle.

Caitlyn becomes General

In the aftermath of the attack, Piltover struggles to recover, the city’s streets still streaked with Jinx’s chaotic paint, courtesy of the Gray. Elora and Mel exchange a knowing look, silently agreeing on their next steps. Mel clutches a Shimmer Dart, prepared for the upcoming meeting, but before they can act, Elora freezes in place. Mel turns to her, alarmed, just as a surge of dark magic engulfs them both. The shadows close in, and the Black Rose seizes them.

At the Council Room, Salo thanks the gathered great families before yielding the floor to Ambessa. Taking center stage, Ambessa spins a tale, blaming Amara’s death on Zaunite assassins. She urges Piltover to retaliate, citing recent atrocities, and calls for martial law. To enforce it, the Council must agree on a General to lead operations, with Ambessa offering her Noxian forces as support under her advisory role. Confidently, Salo assumes Ambessa will choose him, but she shocks the room by naming Caitlyn Kiramman instead. Caitlyn is stunned, but as murmurs ripple through the chamber, the ruling Houses begin to rally behind the choice.

Ambessa seals the moment with a thunderous salute, joined by her soldiers and the Enforcers. It’s revealed that Ambessa had orchestrated the attack, using Rictus to manipulate the Chem-Baroness Rennie into targeting Piltover during the Memorial. The chaos was all part of her plan to usher in military rule. The scheme culminates when Caitlyn, swayed by Ambessa’s promise of justice for her mother, accepts the mantle of General. With a firm salute, Caitlyn steps into her new role, solidifying Ambessa’s control.

Conclusion

Vi and Caitlyn seemed destined to be separated. Vi’s instinct was never aligned with that of Piltover and Caitlyn desire for revenge clouded her mind. This makes Caitlyn an easy target for Ambessa who uses her mothers death to manipulate her into accepting the role of General. The fight between Vi and Jinx was a long time coming and it didn’t disappoint. I knew neither was going to died but the action was spectacular. The side quest Jayce, Ekko, and Heimerdinger are on, does interest me much yet, but I like the visual effects the wild rune produce. I am curious what or who the “Black Rose” is and why it has beef with Ambessa.
