Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun Episode 4 – The Seii Coup

Misumi Aoteru has been Border District Unit’s Inspector for a few days and is already beginning to change the standards the previous inspectors set. He’s executing assistant bookkeeper Machiyama who’s accused of “unlawfully possessing a private army of 5, robbery, murderer of three people, and sexual assaulted.” Machiyama admits to the crimes but tries to manipulate Aoteru with appeals to his “humanity”, and a sob story about his son-in-law’s sudden death and his daughter’s poverty.

Aoteru notes that the reason criminals weren’t punished due to widespread bribery. If they don’t re-establish the military’s legal authority the country could be destroyed. He must be strict. Aoteru’s new standard is meet with mixed reactions, however, General Mitsuhide is pleased. Tsune warns him that if he doesn’t at least show some restraint it could backfire. Aoteru counters that if the families get no justice from the military there could be an insurrection.

The Seii Coup

We are introduced to the members of the anti-surrender faction. They appoint Wajima Ouga, as commanding officer. In two days they managed to get 50 officers to carry out the coup d’état. Nagano Muuton, the commanding officer of the Nagao unit, kills three guards, as they steal weapons for the anti-surrender faction. Kura Aterui is the Commander of the Kura Unit, he’s an intimidating figure, who gives his men an inspired speech.

The next victim is the Mayor of Seiro, Asahima Hikabi, who despite being warned, get’s ambushed by the Kura Unit. Aterui takes great pleasure in decapitating the Mayor. The anti-surrender faction killed the heads of the pro-surrender government, but managed to keep the casualties to a minimum. The final head to roll is the President of Seii, Azami Haruichi. When Ouga sees him she becomes emotional.

Azami is surprisingly pleased to see her and praises her military strategy. He accepts his death by decapitation. At the Shibata’s Military Training Castle, Ouga endears herself to the people. She feeds them porridge and begins to cry. She’s so happy that the people are able to finally eat. They respond well to her. Ouga gives a powerful speech, inspiring the people. She reduces taxes, increased productivity, stabilized supply, and the economy. Wajima Ouga becomes a dictator of Seii in the year 51.
