In Kaiju No. 8, Season 2, Episode 3, Kafka continues to struggle with transforming into his Kaiju No. 8 form. Kikoru steps up to protect him. Inspired by the memory of her slain mother, she surprises Kaiju No.9 with her abilities. Kaiju No.9, is arrogant. He assumes that humans and Kaiju No. 8 are inferior and this leaves him vulnerable to being surprised. Kikoru wields her axe, slicing and dicing Kaiju No. 9 with strength and speed. However, it’s not enough. She’s not ready to take on the Kaiju alone and with Kafka suffering they end up in danger.
Elsewhere, Gen shows why he’s the strongest. He overwhelms Kaiju No.9 with his special weapon and his special ability, Kaiju No.1’s eyes. According to Isao Shinomiya, the first Kaiju could, “see the future”, and Gen can see the inside of a biological being and predict it’s movement. Kaiju No. 9 is confused. He knows Gen hasn’t gotten any faster but he can’t figure out how he’s getting hit. If a Kaiju had this ability, then I wonder how they killed it? Will we get to see it in flashbacks?
Kafka finally transforms
Anyway, Gen slices the second Kaiju No. 9’s core, killing it. Back with Kafka and Kikoru, the later gives a pep talk. Inspired, Kafka finally transforms. Having evolved somewhat, Kaiju No. 9 seems excited and certain of it’s victory. It summons other Kaiju. However, Kafka has learn somethings from allowing the Kaiju to take over his body. With his confidence returning, Kaiju No. 9 is no match. Kafka manages to use his speed and new “rocket”, flying abilities to destroy Kaiju No. 9.
It’s unclear whether Kaiju No. 9 is dead (I doubt it) but I hope Kafka has gotten past his fear. Kaiju No. 8 has a well balanced cast of characters. While I expect Kaiju No. 8 to be at it’s center I’m looking forward to seeing everyone improve. Kaiju No. 9 may have underestimated them this time, I don’t think it will do that again.
