I have been complaining about this season of Demon Slayer. The Hashira Training arc is dull and I simply didn’t care about it. This final episode makes up for the rest of the season. It featured everything that makes this series great.
Kagaya and Muzan meet
After all this time Muzan has finally meet his nemesis, Kagaya Ubuyashiki. These two are foils for each other. Muzan a picture of health, his only limitation being death by sunlight. Kagaya is sickly. Muzan is cruel, self-absorbed, and abuses and uses demons for his own gain. Kagaya considers Demon Slayers to be his “children.” Kagaya understands that he’s weak, whereas, Muzan doesn’t think he has flaws. Muzan tells Kagaya that he’s “disgusted” by the Ubuyashiki. He calls Kagaya “loathsome, indescribably ugly, and already with the scent of a corpse.”
Kagaya revulsion is understandable for Muzan. In Kagaya, Muzan sees his worst fears. Weakness and vulnerability. Kagaya tells him that a Doctor told him that he only had a “few days,” to live. He claims that he continues to live only to defeat Muzan. Kagaya reveals to Muzan that his family was cursed because a demon was born into their bloodline. They were told by a priest that they must commit their lives to killing that demon. Muzan doesn’t care. He thinks Kagaya is silly because he’s killed “hundreds of thousands” of humans and has suffered no consequence.
Eternity is, the human will
Kagaya asks Muzan what he dreams about? Muzan is confused why he doesn’t hate Kagaya. He’s distracted by Muzan’s children and wonders where the guards are. Kagaya reminds Muzan that the Demon Slayer Corp hasn’t been eradicated yet because human will is immortal. Over time Muzan has continued to create more and more enemies that are now focused on Muzan. He points out that if Muzan dies so will ALL demons. His death on the other hand will inspire the Hashira and the other Demon Slayers to action.
The crows alerts the Hashira to the dangers at the mansion. They all frantically rush to save their master. It too late as Kagaya blows himself, his wife, and two children up along with Muzan. I will say the animation from this explosion was spectacular. It looked real and I was impressed from a series that is known for it’s animation. After being blown up, Muzan is enraged and it feels impressed with the cold calculating nature Kagaya was able to display. Muzan anticipates that there’s more danger for the him. Suddenly, a Blood Demon Art sprouts a series of spikes that pierce Muzan, immobilizes him. Before he could figure out who did it, Tamayo punctures his stomach.
The Infinity Castle Arc begins
Tamayo tells Muzan that the drug he absorbed in his stomach turns demon into humans. Muzan refuses to believe her and violently grabs her forehead. Tamayo has accepted death as penance for killing so many people before, She calls out to Gyomei, who decapitates Muzan with his massive flail. This of course isn’t good enough to kill Muzan. He recovers and attempts to harm Gyomei with Blood Demon Art: Black Blood Brambles, but the Stone Hashira counters with Stone Breathing: Third Form: Stone Skin.
The Hashira and Tanjiro arrive, as Gyomei informs them that Muzan has arrived. The Hashira hasn’t seen Muzan until this point and they all attack in their respective breathing styles together. However, Muzan opens the doors to the Infinity Castle. He not only brings the Hashira and Tanjiro, but all the other Demon Slayers. Muzan challenges Tanjiro to try and kill him. Tanjiro promises he will.
