At the Ayase house, Momo, Seiko, and Manjiro try to exorcise the Evil Eye from Jiji while he’s still inside Taro, but it fails. The spirit keeps control and taunts them.
After the attempt, the group eats oden together. Aira questions why Momo left her out of the village fight, and Momo fires back asking why Aira is even there. Momo also presses the Dover Demon on why he returned. He explains he came back with his son because the cow he got wasn’t producing milk and couldn’t survive on his planet. Aira meets Chiquitita for the first time, finds him cute, and hugs him, deciding he should stay. Meanwhile, Seiko and Manjiro talk about hiring outside help like the Rokken Sect, but eventually consider hayashi performers. Manjiro worries separating the Evil Eye from Jiji will be dangerous because of his strong spiritual power.
Their talk is cut short when Taro burns himself on hot oden and Jiji’s voice suddenly comes out. Seiko warns the others to be cautious, thinking it could be the Evil Eye tricking them, and tells Taro to open his face without breaking the seal. It turns out Jiji really is back. Seiko realizes the cold water expelled the Evil Eye, and the hot soup restored Jiji to normal.
The Evil Eye is weak to water
Seiko explains that the Evil Eye inside Jiji reacts to water—cold water brings it out, while hot water forces it back. Jiji doesn’t take it seriously and starts singing, so Momo kicks him. Unfortunately, Taro is still holding Jiji and groans in pain, annoyed that it’s cutting into his time with Hana. Seiko sets a curfew for Taro and Hana, then apologizes to the group for dragging them into the Evil Eye’s mess. Turbo Granny scolds them, warning that the Evil Eye is far too dangerous to control, and that they’ve only been lucky since it’s still in its early stage.
To prepare, Seiko says she and Manjiro will watch Jiji while he stays in Kamigoe. She also gives Momo and Okarun hot water thermoses in case the Evil Eye surfaces again, and warns Jiji to avoid cold water at all costs. Momo and Okarun agree to stay alert until the next exorcism. Before heading home, Momo, Okarun, and Aira say goodbye to the Dover Demon and Chiquitita. When Momo asks his real name, he reveals it’s “Peeny-Weeny,” but the group decides to keep calling him Mantisian as they watch him and his son depart in their ship.
Naki Kito is free
The next day, the group heads to the hospital to visit Jiji’s parents. On the way, Momo and Okarun share a shy moment when their hands brush, but Jiji interrupts, complaining about Taro not moving how he wants. Momo suggests they buy a gift for Jiji’s parents, which Seiko agrees is a good idea. Luckily, Manjiro knows a supermarket nearby.
Momo hopes Jiji’s parents are recovering, but Jiji brushes it off, joking that it’s a nice change from their usual selves. Momo thinks he’s putting on a brave face, which Jiji denies—until he finally breaks down when he sees them again. Momo has Taro adjust his body to fit the moment, though it ends up looking clumsy since it’s hard being separated. Meanwhile, the hospital TV reports that the wildfire near Jiji’s village has been contained, the Kito Family has been arrested, but their leader, Naki Kito, is still at large.
The Evil Eye Flips
As she runs from her pursuers, Naki gets frustrated that her 200-year plan to feed the Tsuchinoko has failed. She drops her disguise and reveals she’s actually a Subterranean, swearing revenge on Momo for the sake of her people.
The next day, Momo walks to school with Okarun and tells him about the exorcism the hayashi performers will conduct. Before she can ask Okarun for a favor, Miko and Muko show up with news about the volcano in Jiji’s village and a sighting of Mantisian’s spacecraft. At school, Aira is rejected by her classmates after she revealed the truth about the false rumor involving Momo. Later, Momo and Okarun approach her, and Momo asks to speak outside. She invites both of them to sleep over at her house to help watch Jiji in case he loses control as the Evil Eye, and to give her grandmother a rest. Okarun and Aira hesitate but agree after Momo reassures them it’s fine if they don’t want to help. Momo worries that she’s the reason Aira is having issues with her friends, but Aira says it’s her own fault.
That night, Seiko tells Taro to free himself from Jiji once the talismans wear off, warns Jiji to be more careful around water, and gives Momo, Okarun, and Aira a thermos of hot water to use if Jiji transforms again. During dinner, disaster strikes when a drop of soy sauce falls on Jiji as Okarun passes it to Seiko, causing the Evil Eye to flip the table.
