Chapter 283 – ’75’

Gigantomachia rampages towards Tomura Shigaraki. The younger heroes are left alone. Majestic used his Quirk to rescue them. Most of the heroes are confused by the events that lead to this defeat. The sedative seems to have failed. Elsewhere, Kyudai Garaki tells the heroes that they have not “slipped up,” but Gigantomachia is a “calamity that lives and dies for the sake of his master.” Garaki reveals that all the Nomu’s are modeled after Gigantomachia. Like most of the “Nomu” in Tomura’s employ, Gigantomachia has several Quirks. According to Doctor Garaki, he has an energy Quirk, that allows him to convert morale into energy and stamina. He has two other unnamed Quirks, one that numbs pain and the other that allows the bones to grow.

Back at the battle, Shoto uses his ice to cool down his father. Eraser Head is being tended to by Manual and Rock Lock that are trying to deal with his newly severed leg. Rock Lock tells Deku to flee. Deku is dealing with a lot of emotions all at once. He’s teary-eyed and enraged at the “death” of Gran Torino. Tomura announces that it’s time for the heroes “to die.” However, his body begins to tear and gush blood. Deku realizes that as his body, Tomura’s Quirks are too much for him. It’s also the case that his body was never completed (stopped at 75%) and he may always have this limit. I think this is important otherwise Tomura would be too powerful at least at the beginning.

The value of Deku’s experience

Regardless, Tomura heals and uses his decay Quirk. Suddenly, Deku uses his Blackwhip and Float Quirk to rescue save his friends. Shimura’s Float Quirk seemed to be useless to me, but maybe it does have some value if used with other Quirks. Gran Torino remains alive but is unlikely to survive. I think he will get an opportunity to say goodbye to Deku. I have commented that Deku will need to master his six Quirks to be a threat to Tomura. However, both are in the process of learning the many Quirks the currently possess. That said, Deku is still ahead of Tomura who has just mastered the Quirk he was born with. With that advantage, Deku may have a chance. Victory isn’t possible but escapes maybe.

My Hero Academia Chapter 277: Recap and Review

Deku and Tomura Shigaraki clash

My Hero Academia Chapter 277 opens with Deku and Tomura Shigaraki clashing. With the Near High Ends nomu’s keeping the other heroes distracted, Deku knows that this is a pivotal moment as Tomura’s Quirks are erased. His greatest fear is losing his teacher Eraserhead. Speechless, Eraserhead remembers telling Deku that “he could never be a Hero with his power.” It was difficult to recall that Deku was often hindered by his Quirk and discounted for it. He’s mostly overcome that limitation and is now perceived as a hero of the highest order. Bakugo attacks with A.P. Machine-Gun. Tomura is unaffected, dismissing the attack as “cute fireworks.” Endeavor attacks as Deku is overwhelmed by Tomura’s strength. Endeavor asks where Shoto is.

Shigaraki frees himself from his master

The absence of Shoto is curious. I’m not sure what it does for the story. Tomura seems to be powerful enough to handle all the heroes without his Quirks. Shoto will likely arrive when he’s needed the most, probably when Tomura gets his Quirks back. Regardless, Endeavor believes that Tomura is as “sturdy as All might.” Shigaraki pursues Deku, but he’s distracted by the voice of his Master. Talking to himself, Tomura declares that he’s going to surpass his Master and control himself. Suddenly, Gran Torino attacks. He tells Tomura to “quit trampling all over Shimura’s memory.” Tomura responds, “who?” Despite the biological relationship between Tomura and his grandmother, he’s not familiar with her. With her dying before his birth, he has no real relationship with her.

I would imagine that he will learn more about her later in the series. What effect that has is up in the air. Tomura makes a move towards Deku, however, Bakugo attacks with a huge blast. This leaves Tomura open for Endeavor to use his Super Move: Vanishing Fist. Tomura isn’t invincible in his current form. Without his healing Quirk, he can be harmed, but he’s durable. Elsewhere, at Gunga Mountain Villa, Mt. Lady battles Gigantomachia, who’s carrying Himiko, Dabi, Spinner, Mr. Compress, and Skeptic on his back. Mt. Lady struggles not to let him pass her. The heroes are up against it everywhere. If they can keep Gigantomachia and the others from leaving they might have a chance. As long as Deku is Tomura’s target I think he’s going to have a hard time winning. Ignoring the other heroes isn’t working and he needs to target Eraserhead more. He seems so arrogant that he probably doesn’t think he needs a strategy.

Is Dabi Toya Todoroki?

My Hero Academia Chapter 276: Recap and Review

Shigaraki is too strong

Chapter 276 of My Hero Academia opens with a question. Where is our country headed? Endeavor battles Shigaraki directly. However, despite not being able to use his Quirks, Shigaraki is almost as strong as All Might. Meanwhile, Eraserhead is being helped by Manual because his ankle was twisted by a Nomu. Eraserhead’s eyes are being moisturized by Manual’s Quirk. As Endeavor reaches Tomura he unleashes a fire blast. It does not affect as Tomura is actively able to avoid it. He slams Endeavor into Ryukyu. Elsewhere, Deku and Katsuki are dropped off by Gran Torino.

Deku and Bakugo are hidden

Gran Torino believes that due to Tomura’s speed they need to be a certain distance. The strategy is to create distance between Tomura and the civilians while putting him in Eraserheads sights. As the heroes descend on Tomura, several Nomu’s arrived. Tomura wasn’t able to save every Nomu but managed to free what Dr. Kyudai calls Near High Ends. They can’t think for themselves but they maintain get strength. Two of the Nomu’s begin to rush towards Eraserhead, but so does Tomura. Fearing death, Eraserhead thinks of his students and his desire to watch over them as they mature. Suddenly, Deku and Bakugo arrive, with Deku directly tackling Shigaraki.

The heroes are still overwhelmed

I just noticed that both One Piece and My Hero Academia current arcs have the heroes outmatched and outnumbered. It’s probably a coincidence but it’s interesting none the less. Something has to give. I still think that this fight between the heroes is going to end prematurely. Shigaraki being comparable to All Might without his Quirks is simply too strong to be defeated right now. I believe most of the heroes present will probably die including Eraserhead and Gran Torino. Although I hope Eraserhead survives. Regardless, we finally get Deku/Bakugo vs Tomura.

Searching for Deku

In Chapter 275 of My Hero Academia, as Tomura searches for Deku, he notes that Ragdoll’s Search Quirk came preloaded with Quirk uses that she recorded. This, of course, includes Deku as she obtained this information during the Training Camp Arc. Endeavor, while pursuing Tomura, is confused by Deku. When Tomura lands, Endeavor attacks him with a blast of fire. However, Tomura dodges and changes his direction. Overhearing the conversation, Tomura becomes frustrated with the fact that the heroes are communicating electronically. He uses an “Air Cannon” Quirk in conjunction with a “Radio Waves” Quirk, jamming all the communication. Before he does, Endeavor informs the other heroes that Tomura is heading southwest, and he has a Super Regeneration Quirk.

Katsuki chases Deku

Deku questions why Katsuki is following. We know that Katsuki will never admit he’s trying to protect Deku. He responds that he’s the “only one who can make the people understand quickly enough is himself.” As someone privy to Deku and All Might’s secret, Katsuki feels responsible for helping Deku succeed. He also admits that he has a “score to settle with Tomura.” Bakugo has difficulty coming to terms with the reason for All Might’s retirement. Bakugo is unable or incapable to accept that getting caught wasn’t a sign of his weakness or the cause of All Might’s downfall. His guilt has followed him ever since.

Shigaraki verses Eraserhead

Bakugo notices that Deku can use Full Cowl on average at about 30%, and he increases the output to 45% at the moment of impact. He releases that Deku always manages to surpass him, but he will not continue to allow that. I was initially concern whether Deku and Bakugo could handle Tomura. However, this conflict might not happen. Deku envisions both himself and Bakugo being disintegrated by Tomura. Suddenly, Gran Torino grabs the two of them. He notes that Tomura’s decay Quirk is so powerful that “merely touching the falling debris will ensure instant death.” Deku protests, but Gran Torino reminds him that other heroes can fight.

Tomura gets ambushed

Ryukyu attacks Tomura with her claws. He grabs her claw, however, his Quirk doesn’t activate. Ryukyu knocks Tomura into the air. Eraserhead arrives, inspired by the death of Crust and his friend Oboro, he tells Tomura “not mess with his students.” So far in this arc, I’ve have obsessed over two things, who gets their Quirk erased and who dies. I going to guess that Eraserhead loses his Quirk and Gran Torino dies.

Tomura doesn’t have many weaknesses at this point but Eraserhead’s Quirk is one of them. It would be strategically wise of him to “destroy” Eraserhead’s Quirk. However, I think Eri will rewind it at some point so it won’t be a major loss. Gran Torino, on the other hand, would be a perfect victim. He’s important enough to matter, he’s connected to All Might, and Deku, and he’s a member of the old guard. His death would be impactful, but also symbolize the end of an era. That said Tomura may get overwhelmed as he doesn’t seem very skillful without his Quirk. With multiple heroes attacking at once he might need to be rescued by Gigantomachia.

Hawks lose his wings

In My Hero Academia Chapter 271, Dark Cloud, we deviate from the events occurring a the hospital. At the Gunga Mountain Villa, Tsukuyomi heads to aid Hawks. He covers Hawks with Dark Shadow, who notes that his wings are gone. Dabi says that it’s “pathetic” that U.A. High sent students to fight. I found this argument strange because the members of the Paranormal Liberation Front aren’t much older. Regardless, he points out that Hawks killed Twice. I think this might be important to create some kind of doubt in Tsukuyomi. However, I think it won’t be effective considering he had no personal relationship with Twice. Dabi’s larger point, that the “the Pro Hero he looks up to is far dirtier than the Villains“, is accurate.

However, the “victims” of the heroes and villains are what would color how they’re perceived. Anyway, Dabi still has the advantage as Tsukuyami’s Dark Shadow is weak to light. Hawks conclude that Dabi is “buying himself time” by talking, suggesting that his flames have weakened. They manage to briefly escape but before Tsukuyomi could escape they are attacked by Dabi. However, Geten interrupts them by creating a massive wall of ice. The villains begin to push back against the heroes, meanwhile, Gigantomachia begins to respond to Shigaraki’s scent.

Tomura Shigaraki awakens

As the heroes search for civilians in the likely battlefield, we get a glimpse of who is present. Most of the U.A. Class is there, Katsuki, Uravity, Froppy, Ingenium, Anima, Shota, and Deku. Furthermore, we now know that there are no civilians left in the area. Also, Anima uses his Quirk to evacuate all the animals present. Deku has a response to the first user of One For All. He warns Deku that “blowback will arrive soon and they don’t have much time.” Elsewhere, Tomura awakens, claiming that he’s “cold.” Most of the High-End Nomu is defeated and Present Mic still is escorting Kyudai Garaki. Suddenly, the lab begins to decay.

Gran Torino rescues Present Mic and Garaki, Ryukyu tells Eraser Head to grab on, as she is carrying multiple heroes on her back. As he’s about to grab on a disintegrating Nomu grabs his leg. Eraser Head is saved by Crust’s Shoot Shield, however, he can’t escape Tomura’s Quirk and dies. Endeavor escapes with Mirko and another hero in tow. Deku shows a new skill, Super Move: St. Louis Smash Air Force. I’ve been predicting the death of many heroes for several chapters, I’m not surprised that a high ranking but largely unknown hero, Crust died. I still wonder if one of the U.A. heroes, particularly, Bakugo or Shoto, will lose their Quirks to Tomura. If they can survive his decay Quirk.

My Hero Academia Chapter 270: Tomura awakens as the new All For One

My Hero Academia Chapter 269: Did Present Mic Kill Tomura?

My Hero Academia Chapter 269, The Three of Us, begins with confirmation that Mirko will likely survive. Endeavor “sears” he wounds shut. He begs her not to die, since he owe’s her for Kyushu. Suddenly, a High End Nomu arrives, attacking the No. 1 Hero. It hopes that fighting Endeavor would be “more fun.” Elsewhere, Crust, Shota, and Present Mic are overwhelmed by the Nomu’s. Mirko tells them via earpieces that Shigaraki is inside a capsule. She deduces that the Nomu were triggered by some remote device. She warns them that Shigaraki is no longer an “average villain,” and must not be allowed to awaken.

Meanwhile, Shota continues to use his Quirk to erase the Nomu’s powers. Reinforcements will arrive in seconds. Shota is unable to chase the Nomu fighting Endeavor. He tells Vision Hero: Exress and Voice Hero: Present Mic to “go ahead.” Dr. Kyudai tries to salvage his experiment on Tomura. With the damage done to the equipment, Kyudai decides to wake Tomura in his “half-formed state.” However, before Dr. Kyudai can wake him, Present Mic uses his Loud Voice ability. It destroys what’s left of the capsule, sending Tomura flying to the ground.

In My Hero Academia Chapter 269, Present Mic destroys Tomura Shigaraki's capsule with his Loud Voice attack.

Present Mic strikes a devastating blow

Mic remembers his childhood with Shota and Oboro Shirakumo. He delivers a devastating punch to Dr. Kyudai’s face, telling him “that’s for making my friends cry.” Exress checks Tomura’s pulse. his heart stopped. Soon the reinforcements appear, overwhelming the Nomu’s. Does My Hero Academia Chapter 269 mark the end of Tomura? Obviously not. With the various Quirks Tomura surely has, he probably will be resurrected. Or he heart stopped working for some Quirk related reason. That said, I think he will be “incomplete.” I expect that will mean he doesn’t have all the Quirks Dr. Kyudai wanted him to possess. Present Mic becoming the one to stop Tomura was surprising.

Of all the heroes of this series, he’s mostly been used for humor or supervising non violent activity. However, considering the fact that Dr. Kyudai used his childhood friend’s corpse to create the Kurogiri Nomu, it’s fitting. It think Tomura Shigaraki will awaken and devastate the hero ranks.
