Season 1, Episode 5: Emotional Maelstrom

Elisabeth uses her powers to save Derieri and Monspeet

In episode 5 of Seven Deadly Sins, we continue the trail given to Diane and King by the Ten Commandments, Gloxinia and Drole. Sent back 3,000 years in a past Britannia, they joined the battle between the Goddess Clan and Demon Clan. In the previous episode, Derieri and Monspeet became Indura. Meanwhile, Gowther and Melascula worked behind the scenes of the Holy war. Elisabeth interfered in the conflict between Derieri, Monspeet and Ludociel. Elisabeth’s mysterious power erupts. Instead of killing them, she wants to “save,” them. However, their darkness resists her light. Ludociel doesn’t accept Elisabeth’s plan to save the demons.

He orders Sariel and Tarmiel to join him in killing Meliodas and the other Ten Commandments. However, they help Elisabeth instead. Bolstered by their aid, she is successful in reversing the effect of Indura. Ludociel tries to kill the now motionless Derieri and Monspeet. However, Diane and King stop him. Despite the end of the battle with the Indura, Ludociel contacts Nerobasta to call Mae. However, when she snaps out of it, she realizes that Growth and Melascula are in front of the gate of Heaven. They plan on making the Gate of Heaven into a Gate of the Demon Realm.

The real Ten Commandment, Gowther appears

Nerobasta calls to her fairy, giant and human allies. However, the humans have a different plan. They have joined forces with the demons and plan to help them kill the fairies and giants off. While, Diane and King are rushing to the Gate of Heaven, they encounter Gowther. What frustrates me about this arc is that, Diane and King know that their in the past and inside the bodies of Gloxinia and Drole. Yet, their constantly talking as if they’re themselves. It’s not that anyone will find out who they are but it is annoying that they seem to forget that this is a trail. Telling Gowther seems even dumber. Gowther turns out to be a Ten Commandment in this time but a member of the Seven Deadly Sins in theirs.

While the fairies are begin massacred, Gowther attacks Diane and King. He needs to prevent them from reaching the gate, until the Demon gate can be formed. Melascula is shocked at what she created. He tricked her into creating the gate to the Demon Realm’s prison. The real Gowther is inside and used the opportunity to escape. This episode ends with the real Gowther stating that he plans to say “goodbye” to this world.

Season 4, Episode 4: the Ten Commandments vs the Four archangels

Ludociel meets his match in the Indura

The demon clan faces two of the four archangels, Ark Tarmiel and Tornado Sariel. They bet that it would only take a few seconds to defeat the Ten Commandments. As the Commandments retreat, they attack with Omega Ark. However, despite assuming all the demon would be killed, all but five of the demons are wiped out. Monspeet, Melascula, Derieri, Galand and Fraudrin remain. Monspeet uses Hellfire Bird. Meanwhile, Derieri punches Tarmiel in the face. Sariel was hit directly by Hellfire Bird, however, he isn’t harmed. Derieri continues to beat Tarmiel’s face in. He completely recovers. However, Galand cuts him in half with Critical Strike. So far the demons are no match for them.

Things get worst as Ludociel enters the battle. However, before he arrives Sariel losses an eye to Derieri. Ludociel arrives and quickly dominates the demon clan. Reaching the end of the line, both Lady Derieri and Monspeet plunge their arms into the chests. The rip out their own hearts. They release their “true nature” becoming terrible demons called Indura. Ludociel doesn’t care about the transformation. However, Lady Derieri hits him, knocking through several trees. Ludociel recovers and uses a powerful energy blasts. It has no effect. Frustrated, he calls for Tarmiel and Sariel’s aid. Monspeet grabs the two of them and burns them. Meanwhile, Meliodas, King and Diane rush to the area.

Ludociel is shocked that demons can hurt angels. Meliodas, Diane and King stumble upon Elizabeth in a barrier that Sariel placed over her. However, Diane can’t break through it. Meliodas despite being a demon breaks through and grabs Elizabeth. She’s in tears as she failed to do anything. She flies in front of Lady Derieri, promising to stop them. It seems that this arc has shifted focus from Diane and King’s trail to the battle between the Goddess Clan and Demon Clan. I’m sure that the series will return to the trail at some point, but it’s odd that it feels like an afterthought.

Season 4, Episode 3: Let There Be Light

Who’s really evil, the angels or demons

Episode 3 of The Seven Deadly Sins, we continue to explore the development of King and Diane. In Britannia, they’re faced with the powerful Ten Commandment, Piety, Calmadios, Diane believes they should flee. Meliodas tells them that “they will break his commandment if they flee.” However, Calmadios attacks Diane before they can decide. Both Diane and King are stronger in the bodies of Gloxinia and Drole. Emboldened by their new power, they’re ready for battle. King uses Spirit Spear Basquias, Form Two, Guardian, piercing Calmadios’s six arms with it’s stinger. Diane uses Giga Lock, grabbing the legs of Calmadios. He counters with Evil Breathe, but Meliodas deflects it with his Full Counter. Meanwhile, Elisabeth let’s the demons go home.

One of the four Archangel’s, Ludociel

The Goddess Clan’s Divine Lance Corporal, Nerobasta criticizes Meliodas, Diane and King for only managing to “drive one demon back.” Ludociel appears to welcome them and announce the end of the Holy War. Despite the hope for peace, Ludociel has no interest in peace. He wants to “wipe out the demons.” Elizabeth questions Ludociel. Despite, Meliodas being a demon that fights along side them, Ludociel thinks he’s less than they’re. This episode possess the question, who is really evil? The demons are more complicated than we believe. However, the angels are actually showing themselves to be more sinister. Elizabeth and Meliodas are the exceptions.

In Episode 3 of The Seven Deadly Sins, the Demon Clan arrives to get revenge.

The sinister plan of Ludociel

King meets Gerharde, the younger sister of Gloxinia. King senses a barrier at the back of the fairy forest. He’s asks Gerharde what it is. She informs him that it was Mr. Ludociel that created it. She says that it’s a trap for demons. The Ten Commandments arrive with their army. However, this is all part of the plan of Ludociel. Meliodas plans on speaking to the Commandments. However, Elisabeth beats him to it. She asks them to trust her and leave. When one of the Ten Commandments asks for Meliodas’s head, Elisabeth refuses. However, Ludociel begins his plan. A giant arc rises from the forest, with demons trapped inside. The demons exists that in-between life and death. Ludociel destroys all the demons. Ludociel and demons prepare for war.

My familiarity with the Seven Deadly Sins is limited, but I do know that in the current timeline demon are the villains. It’s interesting that 3,000 years ago apparently it was the opposite. Of course in general demons are considered to be evil and angels are good. The Seven Deadly Sins inverts this. It has happened before in other shows, but will have possible consequences (in this series) when they return to the present. As a shonen series, this season hasn’t meet my expectations. I know fights are coming but I’ve been underwhelmed so far. Regardless, I can’t wait for the war to begin.

Season 4, Episode 2: Memories of the Holy War

The first episode of season 4 of “The Seven Deadly Sins” was a dud. However, that’s typical for an opening episode of any series. The second episode of Seven Deadly Sins was always going to be better. King and Diane are saddened at the thought of Meliodas being dead. They’re clearly unaware that he is alive. Furthermore, they don’t know that the ten commandments have been defeated. King and Diane are teleported to a cave by the ten commandments, Drole (Patience) and Gloxinia (Repose). Both King and Diane assume they will be killed. The walls of the caves are “elastic” preventing King from making an opening. Gloxinia uses Spirit Spear Basquias, Form Two Guardian. Meanwhile, Diane attacks Drole. He is completely unharmed by them. Diane takes a hit from Drole that according to her would have killed her if she didn’t use “Heavy Metal.”

Determined to survive

However, Diane isn’t deterred. She uses her “Crazy Rush” ability that makes several fist shaped. Drole quickly evades her attacks by “dancing.” Diane’s magic disappears. Drole explains that “the power of Giants doesn’t just come from their muscles,” they can “transform the earth’s power into their own.” He hits her, as she uses Heavy Metal. Elsewhere, King continues to battle against Gloxinia. He uses his ability True Spirit Spear Chastiefol, Form Five. It doesn’t have much impact. Diane and King aren’t powerful enough. Tearful and bloody, King apologizes to Diane for failing to protect her.

A test from Gloxinia

Drole tells Diane and King that they will, now be tested. Gloxinia says that they’re going to “outdo us.” Using Moon Rose Droplet of Life, Gloxinia revives Diane and King. Surprised, King and Diane can’t believe what happened. King thinks that they’re “making fun of them.” Gloxinia and Drole tells them that they’re going to “train them from scratch.” Drole tells them that they’re “too weak.” Still unconvinced, King doesn’t understand their motivation. Drole notes that they’re not demons. They were both former kings, Gloxinia of fairies and Drole of giants. After losing in battle against demons, they became part of ten commandments. They have changed again. Both, King and Diane agree to be trained. Gloxinia casts a spell.

Diane and King verses Meliodas

The spell puts Diane and King in the bodies of Drole and Gloxinia. They meet Meliodas and Elisabeth. King believes that they have been sent 3000 years to a past Britannia. This is before the ten commandments. They head to the Valley of Fossils. A battle is going on and they encounter, Calmadios the Piety of the Ten Commandments. I’m really interested in the narrative from the past. I’m wonder how this is suppose to train Diane and King. Will they actually get stronger psychically or mentally? If they end up fighting in this battle (which seems likely) the probably will learn by experience. Their first obstacle is Calmadios, a giant with six arms. I think he’s going to be a challenge.
