One Piece Chapter 899 Review: The Last Stand

My prediction from my previous review was incorrect. Luffy and Sanji are safely on board the Thousand Sunny. Ironically this was the more unpredictable result. Anyway, Mont-d’Or calls Perospero, flipping out as he worries about Big Mom and the cake. He is told that the cake has already been dropped of on Funwari Island. Pero tells him to warn the citizen’s of Totto Land of the consequences of “one of three outcomes.”

First if the cake is poisoned and Big Mom dies, the Big Mom pirates will end. If Big Mom manages to survive being poisoned, she will continue to rampage and destroy Totto Land. Finally, if the cake is delicious then the only problem they will have is the damage already sustained. Of course we (the reader) already know that the cake will be delicious so we could assume the outcome. The citizens of Nuts Island, Poripori Island, Cutlery Island and Ice Island all decry their current predicament, assuming the worsts.

Meanwhile, Chiffon believes in Sanji’s cooking skills, Bege has no interest what’s so ever waiting for Big Mom’s reactions. He transforms into a tank, grabbing his wife and speeding off. He warns that if “the Strawhat’s died he will not forgive them.” Big Mom lands in front of the cake, preparing to eat. Meanwhile, the Strawhat’s are still under assault from Smoothie. However, Judge orders his Germa 66 to attack her fleet. Judge asks Luffy “what Sanji’s worth to him,” he finds it difficult to fathom how he could save someone as “weak minded and a good-for-nothing.”

Luffy comically wave goodbye to Judge, as he questions why “Judge would list all of Sanji’s positive traits,” resulting in Jinbe laughter. Big Mom’s fleet appears in front of them, as they become surrounded. Jinbe begin’s to lose hope, but Wadatsumi rises up from underneath the sea. Wadatsumi is a member of Hody Jone’s crew, Jinbe dives into the sea to reunite with the Sun Pirates, as they plan to serve their former Captain until he leaves Totto land.

At this point it seems that this arc is set to end. The conflict between the Germa 66 and the Big Mom pirates would probably end off screen. At this point I find it hard to believe that they won’t escape. The question I do have is what happens to Pudding, she’s so untrustworthy but she did aid the Strawhat’s. Will she be able to convince her siblings that she wasn’t helping the Strawhat’s? I’ve been predicting that after Big Mom taste that cake she will be grateful to Sanji, but now I’m starting to think that she would want him to be capture so she could have more of that cake. We’ll see next week.

One Piece Chapter 884 Review: Who

Gear Four Luffy vs Katakuri

Luffy strikes Katakuri with several attacks, sending him flying. He questions the assumption that Katakuri was “invisible.” He states that because “since Busoshoku Haki makes Logia types take form and it simply passed through Katakuri,” he was able to deduce that Katakuri wasn’t a Logia user. Luffy realizes that “that Katakuri’s most notable trait is not his control over his Mochi Mochi no Mi abilities, but his Kenbunshoku Haki.” Katakuri is impressed that Luffy was able to determine this and that he was able to hit him.

Katakuri responds by trapping Luffy in Mochi with his “Peerless Donuts,” technique. He then strikes Luffy with a devastating blow from his “Strength Mochi” attack, knocking him through several walls. Meanwhile, at Cacao Island, Pound arrives to see his daughter Chiffon. Brulee informs Pudding when the Strawhat’s will be arriving at 1 am and Luffy will not be there because he won’t defeat Katakuri. Oven arrives and notices Pound making a ruckus outside. Pudding warns Sanji that Katakuri probably won’t lose because he’s never lost to anyone. Sanji says he will “will suffer his first loss.”

The thousand Sunny continues to head towards Cacao Island, Nami is curious that no ones following them. Jinbei agrees and wonders what happened to the Sun Pirates. Mont-d’Or is informed that Big Mom is currently destroying Nut Island and the territorial sea slugs have disappeared. It is revealed that Praline is responsible for the disappearance, she’s been singing to them preventing them from doing what their suppose to do. It seems that Luffy is still in at an disadvantage when it comes to Katakuri. With Gear Four being his current highest level it seems that he will have to figure out something new. Sanji unbridled confidence in Luffy is unsurprising but refreshing to see. Overall, this chapter doesn’t advance the story that much.

Dragon Ball Super Episode 113: Goku vs Caulifla and Kale

Goku vs Caulifla

Caulifla transforms into Super Saiyan 2 and begins to fight against Goku. She asks that Goku teaches her to reach level Super Saiyan 3. Goku agrees to do it, but tells her she needs to “beat him first.” Due to his fatigue Goku will not begin fighting at level 2. Goku easily dominates the fight, his better martial arts skill on full display. Caulifla lands a hit on Goku and he responds by using his after image technique. Caulifla is annoyed by the technique, accusing him of “cheating.” Goku tells her that if “she can’t figure out his Afterimage technique, she will never achieve Super Saiyan 3.”

Super Saiyan 2 Goku vs Super Saiyan 2 Caulifla

Caulifla begins to adapt well to Goku’s fighting ability and he finally transforms. Caulifla and Goku trade blows as they shock the other fighters. Goku is impressed with her improvement and suggests that she could end up surpassing SS3. Goku points points to Kale and she joins in on the fight as Caulifla invites her. She is ecstatic to join her “sister.” Unsurprisingly, Beerus is shock at Goku’s suggestion.

SS2 Goku vs SS2 Caulifla and Kale

Together Caulifla and Kale manage to land hits on Goku. Shin is worried about Goku’s chances against two super saiyans, however, Krillin states that “that pushing himself to the edge to further himself is who Goku is.” Goku is able to handle himself against the both of them, but Goku is eventually knocked backward. Kale and Caulifla shoot 2 ki blasts at Goku, but he counters them with his aura as he transforms briefly into Super Saiyan 3.

Kale becomes the Berserker Super Saiyan, exciting Goku as he prepares to fight. I like the fact that the series has managed to make older Super Saiyan levels relevant. Super Saiyan 3 was always an unappreciated form, with SS2 even taking greater prominence in the series. Goku’s tendency to help his opponents get stronger has always been annoying, but it never seems to actually backfire on him. It will be interesting to see how a fatigue Goku will handle Kale in her current form.

Inuyashiki: Last Hero Episode 3 Review: Naoyuki Ando

Hiro Shishigami is stunned that Inuyashiki wasn’t killed instead of engaging in a fight with him he flees. Inuyashiki is horrified at the massacre and that there’s “another him,” and what it means. He’s saddened by his inability to save the family. The following day Hiro is at his friend Ando’s house. Ando gets a paper cut and Hiro reveals that he has the ability to heal. Traveling home from work Inuyashiki encounters a group of criminals that skip the line at the cab stand. On person foolishly asks them to “wait their turn,” they forcibly walk him to a secluded spot to assault him. The man cries, pleading for his life but Inuyashiki interferes.

Inuyashiki “fights” in a manner appropriate to that of an old-man, he windmills and throws erratic punches. The scene is both an effective show of heroism and the series since of humor. The man thanks Inuyashiki, who uses his sensor to hear a little girl calling out to her father as their house burns down. Inuyashiki attempts to fly like Hiro did. He looks to Astro boy for inspiration. He manages to fall upward only to fall back to the ground. The second time he’s almost hit by air plane, but he does manage to get to the burning house in time. He successfully saves the father and the grandmother.

Hiro convinces Ando to return to school. After class a bully named Tetchan beings to pick on him. Hiro steps in to help nearly breaking Tetchan’s arm. Ando and Hiro head to a roof, where Hiro shows Ando that he can kill people without gunpowder, he explains that he can hack into government weapon systems, use the internet mentally and steal money from bank accounts. Inuyashiki is walking when a cat is killed by a car. He becomes distraught and discovers that he can heal with his new powers. His first instinct is to head to a nearby hospital and begins to heal patients. Meanwhile, Hiro returns home and decides that he will commit more murder. He kills a dog, the dog’s owner and he baby.

Another great episode from this series. The most noticeable aspect was the humor. The introduction of Hiro to this series added to the dreary tone. Hiro’s behavior toward Ando is dramatically different from his views on the rest of humanity. He appears to at least be mildly concerned with exposure despite his claim that no one could stop him anyway. Ando is unsurprisingly appalled by Hiro’s murderous behavior, but is surprisingly brave when he ends their friendship. Like most people probably did, I assumed that Hiro would kill him and was surprised that he didn’t. The last to moments of this episode exemplifies the differences between Hiro and Inuyashiki, as they commit murder and heal the sick respectively. Finally, I think people need to start locking their doors.

One Piece Chapter 882 Review: Outside of a Yonko’s Expectations

Brulee reveals the Strawhat’s plans

Brulee taunts Luffy from her mirror, telling him that of all Big Mom’s children, Katakuri is the most exception. She elaborates on his fighting ability, stating that Katakuri’s “reputation for never having laid down once in his life.” Annoyed, Luffy attempts to attack her but is blocked by Katakuri. He tosses Luffy into a wall of mirrors and tries to attack him with Mogura. He threatens to “tear Luffy apart piece by piece.” Brulee informs Perospero that the Strawhat’s survived the attack from Big Mom and that the Strawhat’s are meeting at Cacao Island, however, Big Mom is distracted and heads toward Nuts Island.

Luffy vs Katakuri

Luffy realizes that the fight with Katakuri is more tiring than normal, this is due to the fact that dodging Katakuri’s attacks are taxing. Katakuri notices that Luffy dodges his attacks more successfully than anyone else. He then activates his “awakened Devil Fruit powers,” turning the ground into mochi. Luffy begins to activate his fourth Gear, intriguing Katakuri.

The Fire Tank Pirates and Germa 66 survive

The Big Mom pirates have lost sight of the Strawhat’s and Fire Tank pirates. Mont-d’Or is informed that the Germa 66 “have been crushed,” however, it’s Niji pretending to be Charlotte Nusstorte. She asks about the Strawhat’s location and is informed that they’re “are still not captured and heading west.” Ichiji orders Germa 66 to “set sail.” I think Luffy will be overwhelmed by Katakuri regardless of the use of Fourth Gear. Despite their power, the Big Mom pirates are slowly losing ground and their apparent arrogance is only going to make them more likely to fail. Once again Big Mom’s irrational love of food has derailed her, providing the Strawhat’s with some relief. The Fire Tank pirates, Germa 66 and Strawhat’s together should put up a good fight against Big Mom.

My Hero Academia Chapter 157: Infinite 100% Review

Izuku grabs Eri

Izuku uses Mirio cape to bring Eri into his arms. He promises that “that he will not let go of her this time.” Kai Chisaki becomes enraged and demands that Izuku “hand Eri back to him.” Izuku wants to be the type of hero that “wipes everyone’s worries always, always wins and saves everyone.” He activates One For All 100% and attacks with a kick, while Chisaki attacks with stone pillars. Surprising himself and everyone else Izuku was able to launch into the air.

Chisaki pursues Eri and Izuku

Chisaki is injured by Izuku’s attack. He fuses with Rikiya Katsukame, going after Eri and Izuku. Sir Nighteye is badly injured, he warns Ryukyu that “Chisaki is going to pursue Izuku and is intend on not only getting Eri back but murdering Izuku as well.”  Uraraka considers aiding him, but she collapses due to loss of stamina. Sir Nighteye convinces the others that he will stop Chisaki.

Eri’s powers

Izuku manages to safely land. His legs that were once broken are healed by Eri’s ability. However, Izuku quickly begins to feel tremendous pain from One For All 100%. Chisaki tells him that Eri has released her powers, but doesn’t have the ability to control them. He clarifies that Eri can rewind humans and she can even turn humans back as far as monkey’s or even “nothingness.”

He refers to he quirk as a curse and demands that Izuku return Eri. Izuku refuses to do, claiming that he believe’s Eri’s quirk is a “kind, gentle Quirk.” In combination with Eri’s quirk, Izuku plans on going all out, activating One For All: Full Cowl: 100%. It’s a fairly predictable chapter now that Eri is “safe.” However, I don’t think that Izuku will be the one that defeats Chisaki. It appears that Sir Nighteye is going to sacrifice himself to save Izuku.

Inuyashiki Last Hero Episode 1 Review: Ichiro Inuyashiki

The bad-ass old man is a common trope in anime. In general the old man has massive experience in combat which makes them superior in battle. They often use their acquired knowledge to help the future generation learn. However, the title character of Inuyashiki, Inuyashiki Ichiro is anything but. He’s 58 but looks 80, something that is mentioned in the first episode. He’s just moved into a new house with his nagging wife and unappreciative kids, they hate their new home and aren’t too embarrassed to tell him. They leave to go have dinner without him while he unpacks the moving boxes himself.

Inuyashiki heads to work where he seems to be the oldest person at work and is irritated by the young commuters on the train. He finds a dog and brings it home. His wife and kids seem annoyed that he did. He promises to keep it in his room and names it Hanako. The next day he receives news that he has cancer and will die within three months. Inuyashiki calls his family to inform them of the terrible news and none of them answer his calls.

While walking Hanako, he and a young man are hit by what appears to be a alien space ship. They “restore” the young man and Inuyashiki using their weapons systems. Inuyashiki awakes still in the park, he returns home and notices that he’s thirsty all the time, his back no longer hurts and he can see without his glasses. Unsurprisingly, his cancer “mysteriously” disappears, baffling the doctors. Inuyashiki begins to feel weird and triggers some sort of reaction and begins to give off steam. Hanako licks his palm resulting in his arm transforming into a gun like weapon, but it shoots his dinner from the day before on the wall.

Apparently, none of the teenagers in the series are good people, as a group of them torture an old homeless man. They shot him with firecrackers setting him on fire as he begs for his life. Inuyashiki arrives and begins to walk towards the teens, they surround him and beat him with bats. While on the ground apparently unconsciousness, a camera in the back of his head activates and scans the park, targeting the teens. He shoots white beams at them knocking them to the ground, saving the homeless man. The same camera downloads all the social media information and their identities posting them on t.v. for everyone to see. Inuyashiki is tearful as he realizes that despite his transformation into a robot he remains “a person.”

Most anime/manga don’t focus on older protagonists and that’s a little refreshing. The series is both nihilistic and hopeful, but at different times. Inuyashiki is miserable all the time, no one in his life seems to like him or want him to be around. As a result he was the only character that was sympathetic, however, the dog Hanako and the homeless man become sympathetic at the end of the episode.

All three characters share a sense of helplessness as they are abandoned and find themselves to be lonely. Inuyashiki saves all of them. Hiroya Oku clearly has some commentary regarding young people’s obsession with phones and social media and how both can make them dehumanize humanity. The opposite message seems to be represented by Inuyashiki, who is ostracized by the self involve society and he literally stops being human. However, he manages to remain a emotional being unlike the teens, despite no longer being a human. Oku’s message might be too ham handed for some, and his story might be too deary, but I’m invested.

One Piece Chapter 881 Review: Room of Waves

Master helmsmen Jinbe

It wasn’t always clear to me what Jinbe’s official role would be on the Strawhat’s crew was, but he will be the helmsmen. The Strawhat’s never had an official helmsmen, with Nami, Usopp and Chopper all taking the role. A helmsmen is the person that steers the ship. Jinbe is unsurprisingly capable in this regard being a fishman with experience on the seas. Jinbe has been shown in the anime as being able to steer a ship out of the way of cannon fire. In this chapter, Jinbe manages to use these skills to save the Strawhat’s from death. He use the “green room,” which is described as “a short lived pocket made inside the crest of a wave.”

Luffy in the Mirror-World

Luffy’s is notified by Nami that they have survived and smashed all the mirrors. Communicating through a mirror shard, Nami informs him that they will be meeting Sanji at Cacao Island in about ten hours. Katakuri attacks Luffy, who swallows the shard of glass. He informs Nami that they need to hurry, Katakuri reveals a trident made of mochi. He mocks Luffy suggesting that he knows what his last words are going to be. Luffy responds with those words, saying “he will not die here.” The real question regarding this part of the arc is what is Luffy going to do that can defeat Katakuri. It is the tendency of many shonen manga that the main character will ALWAYS find the strength to win. However, One piece at least occasionally allows Luffy and others to be defeated. It seems implausible that Luffy will “win” this fight, but he will likely escape somehow.

Made in Abyss Episode 13 Review, The Challengers

Bondrewd dark plan

Nanachi remembers her childhood when she meets the white whistle Bondrewd and he offers the orphans an opportunity to explore the Abyss. He sends the orphans to the fifth layer of the Abyss, the Sea of Corpses as it’s referred to. While being transported down below, Nanachi meets Mitty and they become partners. Both were outcast due to Nanachi being a smelly and dirty child and Mitty being “an idiot,” or simply excitable.

Bondrewd experiments

It was always implied that Bondrewd was an evil character considering what Ozen had previously stated regarding the other explorers. It is revealed that Bondrewd wasn’t interested into becoming a surrogate father to the orphans and instead intended to use them as experiments. Specifically, he wanted to test the effects of the Curse of the Abyss. Bondrewd sends the orphans down an elevator to the sixth layer. At this point viewers already know what’s going to happen, however, it’s still terrible to watch the inevitable.

Mitty and Nanachi

The transformation was horrible to witness as Mitty was being painfully ripped apart begging for death. This of course explains why Nanachi requested Reg kill Mitty for her. Mitty existence is a miserable one, an nearly immortal mass of flesh capable of experiencing pain. Reg unsurprisingly is hesitant ending Mitty suffering. However, he’s convinced by Nanachi that Mitty’s life isn’t worth living. He finally gives in, killing Mitty with his incinerator while teary eyed.

Riko awakens

Riko awakens without movement in her left hand. Riko quickly bonds with Nanachi and teaches her how to cook delicious food. Despite the traumatic first half of, Made in Abyss, the second was more comical. Riko, Reg and Nanachi have all overcome so much trauma. The three manage to work well together playing of each other. The second part of this episode is a stark departure from early, representing what makes this series so enjoyable. Made in Abyss does take great effort in examining the effects of harsh environments and now terrible explorers but does counter with happier moments.

Riko and Reg invite Nanachi to join them, they send a message to the surface. Finally, we see that Bondrewd is able to track the victims of his experiment through their energy signature. He states that he is eager to meet Nanachi again. Overall, this season and series has impressed me. I haven’t seen a series that manages to blend the innocence of children with the horrors of the environments so well, everything from the tone of the series to the art style creates a contrasting world and a endearing series.

Dragon Ball Super Episode 103: Gohan shows no Mercy

Magical Girl Ribrianne vs Android 17

Ribrianne is furious at Android 17 for defeating her friends, Kakunsa and Vikal. She calls him an “evil, cruel, heartless man who harms fragile maidens.” Android 17 accepts his role as villian considering Universe 7 is also in danger of being erased. She matches 17 in hand to hand combat, meanwhile, Magical Girl Rozie faces off against Goku. Her Yacchaina Fist managed to confused Goku for a while, however, he eventually realizes how her fighting style works. Android 17 and Goku gain the upper hand, Ribrianne and Rozie, flee with Yardart.

Gohan vs Botamo

Gohan and Piccolo run into Botamo, Gohan asks Piccolo to “let him handle it.” Gohan continues to punch Botamo in the stomach, despite the fact that he takes no damage and has infinite stamina. However, Gohan manages to lift him up with his constant hitting, moving him towards the edge. Botamo attempts to shoot Gohan with ki, but misses, Gohan then finishes him with a blast of Ki, knocking him off the edge.

Universe 10 meets it’s end

Piccolo battles Rubalt, while, Gohan faces Obuni. Obuni honors Gohan as a warrior, meanwhile, Piccolo uses his Hellzone Grenade on Rubalt knocking him unconscious and then off the edge. After Rubalt’s defeat Obuni is the only warrior of universe 10 remaining. Gohan takes his hits and counters as he uses his internal shifting ability. Obuni uses too much energy and runs out, Gohan takes advantage and uses Kamehameha knocking him off. This off course means that universe 10 is defeated and therefore will be erased. The episode attempts to create some since of saddeness as universe 10 vanishes but none of the characters are important enough or familiar to really care.

Made in Abyss: Episode 04 Review

The fourth episode of Made in Abyss, entitled the Edge of the Abyss, sees Reg and Riko begin there travel down into the depths of the abyss. Reg uses his arms to great effect in this episode showing his versatility and usefulness in traversing the abyss. Riko has her usefulness as well, she has general known of the surrounding flora and fauna, as well as cooking. Reg gives Riko an envelope featuring a replica of her mother’s sealed letter.

Reg speculates that the letter was placed in his pocket by Leader, Riko reads a note stating that leader will pursue them at dawn. Reg and Riko conclude that this is a test to see if they are worthy of begin explorers. They encounter a strange spider like creature called Silkfangs, that is limited in movement by webs. The episode fails to explain what the creature is and why it’s limited by web. I think this was a missed opportunity to further reveal the world.

Reg notices a green light in the distance and conclude that it must be a search party. It turns out that their pursuer is Black Whistle Hablog and he wants to see the “supreme treasure of the netherworld,” he like Riko in a previous check the “balls,” of Reg. Regardless, he explains that Nat and Shiggy hired him to help them get to the second layer. Riko tells him while she appreciates his help the mission is their “last test.” Hablog accepts this and gives Riko a vaccine for the second layer, mustard steamed and a warning regarding “Ozen the Immovable.” However, Riko doesn’t appear to consider the warning that serious, she and Reg finally arrive in the second layer, the Forest of Temptation.

Made in Abyss Episode 1

Made in Abyss (Meido in Abisu) is an manga series by Akihito Tsukushi, the series has been adapted by Kinema Citrus. The story centers around a  system of caves called the “abyss.” The abyss is the only unexplored place in the world. Inhabited by odd creatures and unique relics, the caves are a source of adventure and intrigue for humans. These explorers are called, “Cave Raiders,” they head into the abyss in search of the relics. The first episode entitled, “The City of the Great Pit” introduces us to this world.

Riko and the Crimson Splitjaw

Riko is training to become a “Cave Raider,” like her mother, the episode reveals information about the world slowly. While discovering new relics, Riko witnesses a odd looking creature, a crimson splitjaw. The splitjaw attempts to eat Nat, Riko blows her whistle capturing the attention of the creature. It begins to chase her through the caves, she reaches a cliff and is trapped. However, she is rescued by what she learns is a robot boy, she later calls, Reg.

The director addressing the orphans

At first glace Made in Abyss may appear to be geared towards children, but it appeals to a wider audience. The animation quality of this series is stunning, fluid and detailed. The animation is on best display when witnessing the background, from the city surrounding the pit, Riko’s room or the classroom. As a lead character Riko is likable, as are her friends. Reg is interesting due to the mysteries surrounding his existence. Made in Abyss is an exciting new anime and I’m eager to see what it has to offer.

Reg, Robot boy

Boruto saves Tentou

First B-Rank mission

Boruto, Sarada, and Misuki are given a B Rank mission, Misuki reminds them that Gaara was doing B-Rank missions when he was a genin. Sarada and Boruto are excited that she could walk in the path of a Kazekage. Until this point there is no real evidence that they are this good, but I guess we will get to see what they’re capable of.

Boruto remembers Tentou

Boruto finds the rare card that Tentou hid in his pocket. He is surprise that Tentou gave him the card after he refused it. Boruto aims to return the card to him and goes to his hotel. He overhears that Tentou has been kidnapped. The mujina are responsible and they demand 500 million ryou for Tentou’s return. They also want all the prisoners from “Hoozuki Castle,” to be released.

Boruto goes at it alone

Sarada is practicing her aiming, meanwhile, Boruto arrives to inform her that he will be unable to make the mission. Sarada accepts that he can’t tell her what he’s up to and he goes to save Tentou. The leader of the mujina, Shojoji, reveals that Yamaoka was killed a long time ago. He explains how Shikabane Bunshin no jutsu, is a forbidden technique that devour and take in the form, memories abilities and their life. Tentou uses the shuriken to try to kill himself, it ends the way it is expected to with Tentou being defeated. Shojoji attempts to eat Tentou’s brain and Boruto kicks him in the face hard. Boruto aims to take Shojoji by himself.

There’s been a lot of criticism of Sarada appearance, basically she’s dressed like a 20 year old, but is only 12. I agree, I don’t understand why it’s necessary to dress her in skimpy clothing, it’s creepy. Another criticism is of the art style, I had some criticism in the begin but have come to actual like it. Manga artist often get better, as the series goes on (see Bleach) and I think it’s also relative unique style. As for the chapter there’s now way Boruto has the ability to defeat Shojoji. Unlike his father who was often saved by the nine-tails, Boruto lacks this ability. Most likely, he will be saved by Misuki and Sarada, we’ll get to see how good they are and most likely accomplish a mission higher rank mission.

Attack on Titan: nearing towards the climax

Confirmation of human to titan transformation

One of the previous mysteries introduced this season is what happened to Connie’s village. We got confirmation this episode that Connie’s family and the other villagers were turned into titans. The lack of blood, use of horses and normal titan behavior has convinced the scouts that the were transformed. The found photograph of Connie’s parents are telling and it is concluded that Connie’s mother is the remaining titan. Furthermore, during the Ymir flashback we see that her punishment, along with her followers was to be turned into a mindless titan.

Ymir and Reiner want Christa

Reiner uses Christa to manipulate Ymir into working with them. Christa is also important due to her connection to the a family of the church. Ymir uses Reiner’s attraction toward Christa as a litmus test for where he can be trusted. Reiner doesn’t think they should risk themselves for Christa at this points. Ymir makes a passionate case for kidnapping Christa and turns into her titan form.

The Scouts close in

The scouts head into the forests to follow Reiner and the others. However, the are attacked by the titans, they begin to use their 3D gear. They run into Ymir thinking that she was still on their side. However, when she spots Christa, she swallows her and flees. The scouts give chase but she is too fast, as Reiner transforms, together with Ymir, Bertholdt and Erin they begin to escape. The Scouts get on their horses and give chase. With only 2 episodes left in the season the climax is coming and likely to be explosive. I predict danger for the scouts as the no longer will have the cover of the trees. Finally, it seems heavily implied the Hannes will meet his end.

Space Patrol Luluco

Space Patrol Luluco is an anime from the well regarded anime studio, Trigger. The television series was created by Hiroyuki Imaishi. The series aired in Japan between April and June 2016.

space-1

Episode 1 – I’m a Normal Middle School Student

Our main protagonist is Luluco, she lives with her dad in the town of Ogikubo. The town is a “space immigration zone,” where human’s and aliens live together. She is a middle school student, that hates the town she resides in. Her father is apart of Space Patrol, that upholds the laws of Ogikubo. Luluco doesn’t seem too impressed by her father. She chastises him for working too much, living in a “run-down apartment,” and is divorced. Distracted by his daughters criticism, he eats an “instant cold-sleep capsules for aliens.

space-3

He is frozen and even dropped by his daughter, breaking in three pieces. She quickly and frantically rushes her father to the Space Patrol headquarters. Luluco meets with the chief of the Space Patrol Ogikubo branch, he offers her a job, in exchange for defrosting her father. She doesn’t want to join the force, but is tasks with policing her middle school of “crime.”Her first case was an incident of cheating by a fellow student. Her patrol suit is automatically activates and she transforms into a Judgement Gun, garnering the laughter of her classmates.

space-4

The animation of Space Patrol Luluco is dynamic. The characters have a chibi feel to them. The color pallet of the series is vast, and the characters move through public environments that are stationary and less colorful. This is most notable when Luluco is talking to the chief. He wasn’t moving very much, save for his purple flame. The series is silly and comical in tone. The character design of the aliens are simple, and there’s nothing unique in their appearance, but I liked them. The episodes of this series are only 7 mins. long. I was initially disappointed by the length, but I found that it is probably a good thing. I’ll continue to watch this series and hope it continues to interest me.

Chapter 110 – Rescue Maneuvers Continued

Yoarashi Inasa, aka Gale, uses his wind powers to move rubble with surgical precision. However, he is penalized for being too reckless. He response favorably and ends his technique. The students continue to discuss what they should or shouldn’t do in regard to the situation. The exam is clearly designed to teach the students to work together and hone their quirks. If he students learn the scope and limitation of their quirks, so that they can be more effective heroes.

006-4

However, according to one civilian the students “waste too much resources” and aren’t likely to pass as a result. Katsuki runs into two civilians with arm injuries, he rudely tells them to keep moving. He concludes that “refuses to help them since they can still move their legs.” He is actually not penalized for not helping them, but for his rude language. Izuku brings another injured child to the healing shelter, meanwhile, Gang Orca arrives, adding another problem onto the current situation. The testing has gotten more interesting and it seems that the students aren’t doing too well.

008-5

It’s important that the students learn to work together, and even some of the student’s have decided to work with other classes. With, Gang Orca now an additional problem has increased the difficultly. I wonder how the students can balance the injured civilians with Gang Orca. I can assume that some of the more fight oriented students like, Katsuki will fight and students like Izuku will save the civilians. It will be interesting to see which behavior is ranked higher.

Chapter 505 – Trump Card

Eileen, the scarlet despair, uses her “enchant,” spell to change the soldiers into “berserker’s.” The soldiers abilities are enhanced, but they lose their ability to reason. Ezra attacks the berserker, to no avail as they are impervious to injury. With the large number of soldiers the Fairy Tail guild, is in trouble. Makarov accessing the situation aims to end the fight with the use of Fairy Law. The members of Fairy Tail are excited at the use of this spell and they feel that the battle will be won as a result.

Mavis arrives and informs Makarov that she has a plan that can save everyone. Makarov tells her that he will sacrifice himself for his “family.” He enacts his final spell, “Fairy Law.” His sacrifice has all the fairy tail members in tears. I think that Makarov’s sacrifice was hasty, as Mavis may have had a plan. He also seemed to think that Mavis didn’t love or care for the members of Fairy Tail. Anyway, his death will likely turn the tide of battle in their favor.

Chapter 842 – the Power of Fullness

Luffy continues his consumption of the biscuit soldiers as Cracker creates more. Nami comes to Luffy’s aid by using rain to soften the soldiers. Luffy seems full and Nami tells Cracker that Luffy has “unlimited hunger.” Luffy continues to eat the soldiers, meanwhile, at Sweet City, the civilians are shocked when they see Chopper and Carrot running through the mirrors. In Germa Kingdom, the preparations for the wedding is ready and Sanji is healed by his sister.

002-0033-1

Sanji and his family begin their trip to Whole Cake Chateau. We return to the Seducing Woods, where we see that Luffy has reached his limit. Cracker believes that this is his opportunity to attack Luffy. Luffy uses his current size to reveal a new form of Gear Fourth, Tankman. Cracker is unimpressed and attacks Luffy with Pretzel. His attacks are absorbed by Luffy, a long with Crackers entire body. Luffy shoots out Cracker like a cannon ball.

0121-2

The story feels like it’s reaching toward a climax. Sanji is finally coming to Whole Cake Chateau, while Chopper and Carrot seem to be heading there as well. I think Cracker has finally been defeated and with Nami’s new found power over the homies, they would be heading there as well. I like that Nami got to be more effective in this fight. I wonder how far the homies will follow her.

Chapter 109 – Rescue Maneuvers

The examinee will be conducting rescue missions, for the next exam. They will be graded on their ability to be effective in rescuing the civilians. The civilians are trained in rescue maneuvers, the are part of a company called HUC (Help Us Company). Mera states that the civilians are disguised as ” injured victims and are scattered throughout the disaster site.”

0133

The examines are graded on a point system, if the students are graded above average, they will pass. Izuku and Tenya realized that this exam is modeled after the Kamino Incident. As the exam begins, they are told about the scenario for the exam, basically  a “large scale destruction of buildings have resulted in large numbers of victims. The damage to the roads are severe and the emergency unit will be considerably late. Until the emergency unit arrives, all rescue activities will be left to the Heroes and they must save every life they can.”

006

The doors open and the examinees begin to rescue the civilians. Izuku, Ochako, Tenya, Minoru and Mina first encounter a crying baby, “who screams that his grandpa has been crushed.” The crying baby docks points from Izuku for his response to the situation. The baby tells Izuku that, he should “check if he can walk and his breathing and notes that he is bleeding. The child tells Izuku that is he wants a Provisional Hero License then he must be able to access the condition of a victim and take instant action.”

003-1

Shouta believes that Class 1-A would fall behind in the exam. The child tells Izuku that:

“The child tells Izuku that in addition to rescuing and providing relief, all authority and responsibility is on his shoulders and must smoothly act as the intermediary in rescue operations. In order to save lives, Heroes must be good at all sorts of things. The child questions Izuku’s tolerance towards the fear, pain and anxiety of the victims since he found Izuku’s first response to be terrible. The child’s advise reminds Izuku of what All Might does; telling the victims that everything is all right since he has arrived. Izuku gets back into focus and realizes that this exam isn’t a check point; everything he is doing is a part of chasing his dream to be a Hero.”

011-2

Izuku finally springs to action and check’s the child’s vital signs. He activates One For All Full Cowl, and takes the child to the first-aid station. Ochako realizes that her feels for Izuku is a distraction, and aims to focus more on being a hero. The chapter ends with a mysterious figure stepping on the disaster site. A very interesting chapter, I found the baby to be way to intelligent, considering his age. However, his advice was spot on and I think it has aided Izuku so far. I wonder if the Class 1-A will all pass this exam as well. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Chapter 841 – To the East Blue

It’s telling that I was surprised that Judge feed Sanji at all, certainly feeding him fancy food from person chef’s. Although, I would imagine that has more to due with the idea that no child of his would eat like a commoner. Sanji remembers cooking for his sick mother, he requested cooking tools and books.

002-1

Sanji horrible siblings discover he didn’t die, and beat him up in his cell. His sister doesn’t participate and help him heal afterwards. Reiji insists that she is not on his side, but continues to help him. She claims that her brothers are rendered incapable of sympathy due to their body modification, she is difference.

008-1

Reiji aids Sanji in his escape, while he is trying to leave his father catches him. Sanji pulls a knife out on him, and threatens to kill his father. Judge seems to like the fact that Sanji will flee and live elsewhere. Sanji escapes on a ship to the East Blue, in tears. Meanwhile, in the Seducing Woods, we find that a fat Luffy has been consuming the biscuit soldiers.

013-1

Luffy has taken to eating his soldiers and aims to exhausts Cracker. However, Cracker believes that Luffy will eventually suffer from all the eating. Considering the depressing story of Sanji’s childhood it is a relief to see some of the comedy this series is known for. I have found that the balance between the seriousness and humor is part of what makes this series so great. I’m happy that we seem to be returning to the present and Luffy.

Episode 2

Doubts About Youth

– The Telepathy Club Appears-

Reigen continues to successfully pull of his “scam.” He convinces a client that his apparent use of +18 teen porn sites has given the client a digital curse. At first the client isn’t buying it, but after Reigen gives an “exorcism” he feels healed. Reigen also continues to take advantage of Mob’s naivety and manipulate him into continuing to work for very little. Reigen’s behavior is troubling, but I can’t seem to view him as being evil or bad.

mob-001

Meanwhile, at Mob’s school we see a student, Takenaka storm out of the Telepathy Club. This results in the the club falling under the 5 min. member rule. The president Tome-chan and her 3 fellow members are tasked with finding a fifth member. They fail to get anyone to join because the club is considered to be “creepy.” Obviously, Mob is considered the perfect candidate, mainly do to his lack of friends. However, it is clear that he really isn’t that interested in joining.

vlcsnap-2016-07-20-19h30m54s43

Reigen and Tome-chan have an funny conversation, where Tome calls him out on his scam. One of the members reveals that he basically only joined the club, “just to goof off.” Anyway, Reigen and Mob, dress in drag in order to infiltrate the all girls school. It’s a little refreshing that Reigen wasn’t convincing as a little girl. The two girls inform him that they believe that the school is haunted. Mob searches for it and find that it has been stacking the girls. Mob traps it within the gym as the girls play basketball. The ghost is a glowing green giant, wearing glasses, called Evil Spirit: Scent-Ghoul .

Mob destroy’s the arm of the spirit. Knowing that it’s too weak to defeat Mob, target’s a student as an hostage. It’s useless of course as Mob quickly destroy’s the ghost, as it disappears into the afterlife he tell’s Mob that he should “live life to the fullest.” The following day Mob is about to sign up for the telepathy club, when he is told he should only join if he truly wants to. Mob flashes back to when he was a child and shows the girl of his dreams his ESP powers. She quickly get over it and falls for a jock. In a surprising and funny twist he chooses to join the Body Improvement Club.

maxresdefault

This was a very entertaining episode. I don’t know how long Reigen scams can work. Mob seems too naive to get that he’s being used, but it’s possible he erupts and loses control of his powers. The animation in this series is being used in a particularly clever manner. Ranging from being sketchy and pencil like, to simple but thick black outlines to completely detailed animation. This isn’t unique to Mob Psycho 100, but it is becoming an important part of the series.

Mob Psycho 100 is a visual marvel

tumblr_oa9z8jhbbq1rkmjxwo1_500

I’ve been hearing about “Mob Psycho 100,” for a while and some of my friends have suggested that it is the greatest anime ever created. That may be a bit premature, but the sentiment may prove accurate one day. There is a danger in over-hyping any series. Even if it’s good it will fall short of peoples expectations.

The story is centered around the main protagonists, Shigeo Kageyama aka Mob. Mob is an eight grader, who is an Esper. He has a distinctive bowl/helmet hairstyle and a muted emotional range. Mob suppresses his emotion due to his tremendous psychic powers. He fears that he can cause a great deal of harm if his emotions reach a high level. To this end, when his percentage of his emotions reach 100, he loses control and uses his full power. Mob apparently possesses “an unknown power,” this power “far surpasses even the height of his abilities, but is uncontrollable and only awakens when unconscious.

Episode 001 – Self-Proclaimed Psychic:

Reigen Arataka And Mob

The First Episode introduces us to Mob’s “Master,” Reigen Arataka who presents himself as a real psychic but is a total fraud. Arataka is the comic relief of the series so far. He’s an emotional and dramatic presence. Mob in comparison doesn’t seem to impressed with any of the “missions.” During what appears to be his first mission, Arataka uses salt to defeat a ghost. He fails miserably and is shocked that it didn’t work. He casually calls Mob, whom instantly destroys the ghost.

Reigen seems to be manipulating Mob to help him make money by doing all the work. I got the impression that he cares for Mob, but it may be due only to his value as a financial asset. Anyway in the climax of the episode Mob and Reigen face-off against what was suppose to be a powerful spirit. Mob easily defeat it, freeing the spirits that were trapped.

Verdict

Mob Psycho 100 is created by ONE (the pseudonym for the anonymous Japanese manga artists) the creator of One-Punch man. The similarities between the to series are clear in the style of the main characters, mainly the eyes. In addition to this ONE seems to be fond of characters with powers that surpasses most of their enemies. I haven’t seen any of the other episodes, but it seems like he never in danger. It’s unclear the reason ONE doesn’t have characters that are less powerful and build the strength up. However, I have enjoyed One-Punch man even though I was skeptical.

The animation in this series is spectacular. The character models are distinct from the background and other aspects of the series. They feature a bold outline and can feel 2D in a 3D environment. This can seems strange at first, but I think you’ll get use to it. The series features vibrant colors and imaginative ghost designs. The emotion depicted in the series is dramatic, but effective. It highlights the contrast between Reigen personality and Mob’s. This is a series I think is worthy of it’s hype.

Chapter 104

Climax! Each of our abilities

The preliminary round begins and the students begin to show their Quirks. A student from the Ketsubutsu Academy uses his abilities to harden the balls. He fellow classmate uses their ability to shoot the balls into the ground. Kyouka users her quirk called “Heartbeat,” shattering the ground. This results in the balls becoming more visible. Minoru is in danger of getting hit and he is saved by Mina.

051 (2)

Fumikage uses his new uses Black Ankh technique, its barley dodged by the student. The other classes are impressed by Class 1-A’s improved abilities. Izuku uses this opportunity to study the other quirks of the students. So far most of the students are on the defensive, resigned to guard their targets. They seem to be apprehensive about attacking. You Shindou that uses his quirk, Shake to ruin Class 1-A defense.

06 (11)

He follows it up with a special move called “Way of the Quaking Earth.” It shatter’s the ground, causing Class 1-A defense to fail. In other area’s of the arena the aftereffects of Shake is felt by the other students. A wind technique, swallows many of the students balls into a vortex. Inasa Yoarashi is the user and defeating 120 students instantly. Izuku is separated from the rest of his class, and is attacked by a female student. He prepares for battle.

09 (4)

The preliminary battle so far is enjoyable. I find it hard to believe that the wind technique from Inasa was accurate enough to hit 120 students targets. Anyway, the strategy involved in the preliminary round is interesting. If you attack you increase the chances that you’ll get hit. However, if you are too defensive you can get overwhelmed by stronger attacks like the ones from Inasa and Shindou.

Chapter 837

Luffy vs Commander Cracker

Luffy and Commander Cracker face off. Cracker tells Luffy that his sword’s name is Pretzel. He claims that his sword knows no equal. Luffy being Luffy, charges head first into Cracker. He uses his Elephant Gun attack. It fails to do anything as Cracker blocks them with his shield. Cracker attacks Luffy with his several arms, overwhelming Luffy.

021bg

Using Busoshoku Haki embedded Pretzel, Cracker hits Luffy in the stomach send Luffy flying. Nami becomes concerned as Luffy isn’t looking too good. Brulee mocks Nami for her weakness, and she comments that the “Worst Generation,” has failed to even face Big Mom as her soldiers are more than enough. She acknowledges that Urouge, did manage to defeat one of the four commanders himself.

03 (15)

Brulee attacks Nami, but Pound interfere’s on her behalf. Freed, Nami attacks with Thunderbolt Tempo. Brulee disappears, but Pound is sure she’ll return. The Homies begin to flee as they are overwhelmed by the Strawhat’s. Luffy attacks with Hawk Gatling. Cracker is up to the task and blocks his attack. Luffy considers Cracker’s Haki to be the “strongest,” that he has even seen. Cracker enrages Luffy by suggesting that Sanji will reject him. Luffy activates Gear Fourth and delivers a devastating blow to Cracker.

091 (1)

Another, great One Piece chapter. This was mostly a fight between Luffy and Cracker. While, I enjoyed it the fight feels rushed. Basically, it’s one chapter and Luffy has already used Gear Fourth. I wonder if this fight will be short, but I can’t imagine it’s over. Feel’s like Luffy will make his presents known with this likely defeat of Cracker. The result being that Sanji will be made aware that his friends are coming.
