On July 6th, Vinland Saga will debut on streaming services. The series is set to have a 24 episode season. Based on Makoto Yukimura’s manga series of the same name, Vinland follows the historical periods depicted in the two saga’s from Iceland, The Saga of the Greenlanders and the Saga of Eric the Red. The story mostly recounts the rise of King Cnut the Great.
Wit Studio (Attack on Titan) will animate the series. Directed by Shuhei Yabuta (Director, Inuyashiki Last Hero) and written by Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish) and Kenta Ihara (Saga of Tanya the Evil), the series will be streamed on Amazon Prime. The series is often compared favorably to Berserk and has been praised for its “fluid action sequences,” “realistic violence,” and “attention to detail.”
Dr. Stone, the manga by Riichirou Inagaki and Boichi’s will debut it’s anime adaptation in July. Launched in March 2017, the series focuses on Taiju and Senku as they awaken from being trapped in stone. They begin to “rebuild civilization” using the science knowledge of Senku. They create a means to destroy the “stone casing” called nital. In a moment of distress they release Tsukasa Shishio, “Strongest Primate High Schooler.” He, Senku and Taiju have a disagreement regarding who should be revived. Two rival clans are formed, the “Kingdom of science” and the “Empire of Might.” Check out the two trailers below:
During Crunchyroll’s live stream of The Anime Awards on Saturday the dub of Made in Abyss: Journey’s Dawn trailers was released. According to ANN:
Sentai Filmworks and Kadokawa Pictures will screen the first film in theaters in the United States on March 20 and 25. The screening on March 20 will feature Japanese audio with English subtitles, and the screening on March 25 will have the English dub.
The screenings will be a partnership with Fathom Events, and tickets are available for purchase now. The screenings will include “behind-the-scenes footage, Japanese created spots and a reflection on how MADE IN ABYSS mirrors fairytales.”
Hunter x Hunter anime series is no longer producing new episodes, however, Viz Media has released the official trailer for the movie, Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission. This movie was announced last year and will be released on January 30, 2019. The film will be “screen in various theaters in the United States and Canada. Both the English dub and English subtitled versions of the film will be available, though selection and starting times are varied depending on location.”
The film isn’t actually new. It was released back in 2013, premiering in the USA in 2014 so many anime fans have probably already seen it. Personally, I didn’t like the manga series for Hunter x Hunter but the anime series was wonderful. The film is described as being ” The Battle Olympia tournament at Heaven’s Arena is about to begin, but a terrifying enemy ends the festivities. Gon & Killua must defeat The Shadow before more Hunters fall!” Check put the English dub trailer below:
Dragon Ball movies are rarely plot heavy, sometimes the story is ever incoherent. However, is that really the most important part of this series? My answer would be no. Fighting is the most important aspect of this series and this latest movie trailer shows that this will be continue to be the hallmark of the series. What surprised me was that it appears to be a remake of the DBZ film “Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan.”
This movie focuses on the Broly, a saiyan with immense power. When he was born he had a power level of about 10,000. King Vegeta saw his power as a threat and ordered his execution. King Vegeta was unsuccessful as Broly and his father survived. Broly having matured became rather violent and manic, even for a saiyan. It’s unclear that this story will retell that one, or what changes will be made. One change, Frieza verses Broly, is something I want to see.
