Whitebeard vs Akainu

After Akainu murders Ace, he both manages to sadden and enrage many of Ace’s loved ones. The epicness of Whitebeard is shown once again. Battle ravaged and heartbroken he engages Akainu head on. With his strength he dominates most of the encounter, Akainu gets several powerful hits in burning off part of Whitebeard’s face. However, Whitebeard pushes through, delivering a devastating blow to Akainu, that also results in the destruction of Marineford.

The difference between the novice and the master is that the master has failed more times than the novice has tried.

Honestly, there isn’t much meaning to the splendid names given to you by your parents. What does have meaning, is what the person behind that name does during their actual lifetime. The name doesn’t make the person. The name simply remains gently within the footprint left on the path a person walks.

There are things you can’t see unless you change your standing.

Kuchiki Byakuya said:

You and I, our levels are as distant as the earth from the heavens. Must I spell it out for you? I have discarded my left arm, discarded my left leg, and yet even then I have not nearly lowered myself to your level.

I… Despise the way you fight. Without ever lifting your own hand… To steal bonds of camraderie and torture opponents is the height of cowardice. It is a lack of shame deserving of death. I am here. Strike me down. I shall kill you and cast you aside… Before you finish swinging your blade.

Let me tell you about the difference between you and me. It’s like the story of the monkey trying to capture the moon. However close he thinks he is to the moon, it’s still just the reflection of the moon in the middle of the lake. No matter how he struggles to capture that “moon”, he inevitably sinks to the bottom of that lake to no avail. You will never reach me.

The Saddest Anime Deaths (Day 25)

Ace’s Death

The death of Ace, was the one of the saddest deaths I’ve seen in anime. Most of the sadness was less about his death, and more about the response to it. Also the sacrifice of many of the Whitebeard Pirates to attempt to rescue him. He was technical freed, which only makes his death worse. The reaction of Luffy to his death was the most effective. The cruelty of Akainu in killing him and seeming mocking those who loved Ace afterwardsLuffy was rendered comatose, due to shock. An Whitebeard rage afterwards was somewhat satisfying.

Best Anime Fight (Day 26)

Jiraiya vs Pain

Naruto Chapters ( 368 – 382 )

This was the first battle that demonstrated the full strength of one of the “Legendary Three“. Pain was completely unknown in terms of his power and abilities at this point in the series. I didn’t anticipate  the epicness of this fight. This battle featured everything from summons, to the introduction of Jiraiya’s sennin form. Pain changes bodies to feature a longer haired body. Pain summons a crab like creature that uses a bubble, Jiraiya uses a “ Raging Lion’s Mane Technique” and tangles the crab in his hair. The summon disappears and Jiraiya then uses his hair on Pain, who uses substitution jutsu.

Jiraiya summons a toad as Pain summons a chameleon. Jiraiya decides he’s “I’m going into sennin mode“, Pain hides in the mouth of the chameleon which turns invisible. Jiraiya counters with a barrier detection jutsu, Pain response by summoning a Cerberus like animal. Pain continues to use animal summons to conceal his location. Jiraiya wonders why he hasn’t use a technique other than summons. Jiraiya releases his summon and emerges transformed with two toads on his shoulders. The female toad uses her tongue to sniff out the chameleon, and uses acid to kill it.

Pain summons two other humans to the battlefield, each with their own set of Rinnegan eyes. Confused Jiraiya aims to discover the secret to Pains power. One of the Pains attacks Jiraiya and he uses his Frog Karate to counter. He then uses his “Hermit Art: Deep Fryer“, but another Pain absorbs this jutsu. Jiraiya decides to try close combat, he attacks with a massive Rasengan. The Rasengan is also absorbed, a smoke bomb is used to give cover and Jiraiya attempts to attack Pain from behind.

He fails to land a direct hit, he uses a frog summon as an distraction and uses his “Hermit Art: Hair Needle Barrage“. It’s his fastest attack and Pain still manages to counter it, with a summon. Jiraiya realizes somethings up and retreats to come up with a plan. Jiraiya concludes that the eyes of the Pains are linked. He and the frogs determine they need to use genjutsu. The genjutsu has it’s effect and Jiraiya kills the three Pains. However, another Pain shows you, he attacks Jiraiya ripping of his arm.

Confused again as all the previously dead Pain are alive. He now has six adversaries to contend with, “The six paths of Pain“. Jiraiya kills one of the Pains and manage to seek refuge inside another toad. Instead of escaping he decides to confront Pain one last time. He realizes that all the Pains are shinobi he’s fought before. At this point Pain crushes Jiraiya’s throat and all six Pains stabs him. Jiraiya uses his last moments leave a message on the back of one of the toads before he drowns. Throughout this battle Jiraiya use his techniques and observation to determine the weakness of Pain. He sacrifices himself for the Leaf and provides important Intel that latter aids in the defeat of Pain. This is why I think it was the best anime battle.

My favorite attack used in anime has to be my favorite attack. He has more powerful attacks, but I find this attack was one of the coolest. His technique is described as:

  • Gomu Gomu no Gatling – Luffy uses his stretching ability to bring his fists forward repeatedly in a blurry, rapid barrage of strong punches that creates the illusion of him having multiple arms, however he does not actually grow more arms so he can still be stopped by an opponent fast enough (as Enel, Rob Lucci and Usopp have demonstrated). This was first seen being used against a group of Black Cat Pirates after being accidentally hypnotized stronger by Jango. According to a fan poll, this is the favorite attack among fans with a total of 3785 votes. Moment that Shocked You the Most in Any Anime

Day 24

Death of Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto, I still can’t get over his death. His death itself wasn’t the only problem, but the manner in which he died. Yamamoto activates his Bankai, Zanka no Tachi, using  Zanka no Tachi, Nishi: Zanjitsu Gokui, and Zanka no Tachi, Minami: Kaka Jumanokushi Daisojin. Finally Yamamoto uses Zanka no Tachi, Kita: Tenchi Kaijin. He devastates, Yhwach quickly defeating him. However, it turns out that the dying Yhwach was an impostor Royd Lloyd.

When Yamamoto begins to initiate Bankai, to face the real Yhwach, it is stolen. Yamamoto is killed. He’s cut in half from his shoulder to his waist. Yhwach, cuts off his arm, and finally Yhwach “completely obliterates Yamamoto’s body” with a blast. For Genryusai to be completely incapable of sensing that Royd Lloyd was an impostor, seems completely implausible to me. Genryusai was considered the strongest shinigami in the last 1000 years, until Yhwach demolished him with ease. I’m not buying that at all, and he clearly was killed simply because Ichigo must kill Yhwach.

Favorite Weapon, Gear, Armor used in Anime

I’m not clear on whether the question was for a specific weapon (Ryujin Jakka) or type of weapon (Zanpakuto), so I’ll choose Zanpakuto.

Zanpakuto (Soul-Cutting Sword) – is the primary weapon of choice of the Shinigami, Arrancar, and Visored. Zanpakuto start off as “ Asauchi”, each Zanpakuto are forged by Oetsu Nimaiya. Each Zanpakuto is a part of the soul of the Shinigami. A Zanpakuto cannot be replaced once destroyed.

The size of the Zanpakuto correlate with the amount of Spirit Pressure.Every Zanpakuto has a name that each Shinigami must learn. Zanpakuto can withhold their names from their wielder if they deem them unworthy. Zanpakuto have many different forms, the Shikai and the Bankai.

Shikai (Initial Release) – is the second form of a Zanpakuto (after it’s sealed form), the name of the Zanpakuto must be learned before entering this form.

Bankai (Final Release) – is the final and most powerful form of a Zanpakuto. To reach Bankai, “one must be able to materialize and subjugate their Zanpakuto spirit”.

I’ve been distracted by tennis this week ( oh, Serena). I’ve definitely been slacking with the 30 Day challenge which has taken much longer than 30 days. I can’t quit I always aim to finish what I started. So let’s continue shall we.

Most Epic Anime Scene (White beards final stance)

one-piece-1210396 (1)

After the death of Ace at the hands of Akainu, White beard unsurprisingly flies into a rage. Akainu burns off half his face and he still continues to attack. Delivering a devastating blow to Akainu, cuts the plaza into two. He is then attacked by Black beard and his crew losing his powers and is killed. He NEVER falls to the ground and NEVER turns his back to flee. White beard showed his true strength in character, even in death.

Anime Character that Gets on your nerves

Uchiha Sasuke

Some annoying characters are funny and generally entertaining but other no so much. Even thought he has resentfully had a change of heart Uchiha Sasuke is annoying. At the beginning of the series he was a little brooding but tolerable. His arrogance was very of putting but it became clear after a while that he had a one track mind. Gaining enough power to kill Itachi ( who killed his entire clan) seemed like a admirable goal. However, Sasuke’s desperation lead him betray his friends and village in pursuing of power. He did gain this power and eventually gained enough strength to “kill” Itachi. After he learned the truth about why his brother did what he did Sasuke still decided to go against his brother wishes. He has change this stance (hopefully), but still doesn’t change how annoying he used to be.

Favorite Goofy Character

Monkey D Luffy

Luffy is the ultimate goof. He typical like many anime characters, for example he loves food. Luffy is generally simple minded, some might say dumb. This simpleness leaves Luffy with a good heart and innocent heart. This leads him to ask silly questions and when given an answer he finds that he doesn’t understand. He seems to be always excited and playful annoying his crew among others.

Anime Character Your Most Similar

Figuring out the anime character that was similar to me was difficult. But, doing a little introspection I concluded that I’m not very tough, courageous, I don’t have angry issues or anything like that. However, I am really lazy. I’m better than I use to be but ultimately I’m still lazy. The anime character that first came to mind was “Shikamaru Nara”.

Shikamaru Nara, is one of the primary characters in the Naruto series. Shikamaru was born into the Nara clan . He has a strong friendship another character named “Chōji Akimichi”. While others teased Chōji for his weight, Shikamaru showed kindness toward him. Shikamaru also is very loyal to him. I would like to think I’m similar to him,  in terms of his kindness and loyalty.

Shikamaru Nara is generally unenthusiastic, like me it takes a lot to get me excited.  He  avoids responsibility when every he can, a bad quality I unfortunately possess. He also does not like fighting, neither do I even though it’s more required in the world of Naruto. Shikamaru is completely aware of his own personality and limitations as a consequence (so am I).

However, when his comrades need him a more noble characteristic is reveal (Bravery). I haven’t found myself (fortunately) in similar situations but I’m willing to make some sacrifices for others. So that’s it. Even though I didn’t highlight many positive qualities, I do think that Shikamaru and I have many similarities except I’m not even close to being that intelligent.naruto_shikamaru0025

Saddest Anime Scene

Vegeta’s Death’s

A character in DBZ is never truly death, however when Vegeta died twice in the series both times were significant. Those who don’t know who Vegeta is, he is prince of the fallen Saiyan race. As royalty he is rather arrogant and prideful. He began the series as a cold blooded ruthless killer. Over the series Vegeta changes for the better and his two death’s are example’s of this change. The first death was at the hands of Frieza.

When Goku arrived Vegeta tearful explained the horrible treatment he received at the hands of Frieza. This was an important changed in his character. Showing his vulnerable side (just before he was killed) made him more sympathetic. His second death was more of a suicide in order to save earth. In his fight against Majin Buu he is rather easily defeated. In a last ditch effort to stop Buu he decided to sacrifice himself. Vegeta hugs his son goodbye, a sign of love he rarely shows and proceeds to use his “Final Explosion”.

Favorite Fighter Anime

Ichigo and his Zanpakuto’s

Its been a while since my last “Anime Challenge Entry” but I’m back on it. So let’s continue. The term “fighter anime” threw me a little bit but, after a little research I got my answer. Basically it means ” Shounen anime“. Bleach is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. Bleach follows the protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki.  I like the Bleach style and the structure of the fighting. The use of katana’s and kimono’s are stylistically pleasing. What set Bleach apart from other manga and anime is the Zanpakuto. Zanpakuto is the primary weapon of the Shinigami, Arrancar and Visored. The Zanpakuto posses a name which is generally known by the wielder. A Zanpakuto in its seal state appears in the form of a Japanese sword. Each sword has a unique look and series of abilities and are generated based on the Shinigami’s soul. Shikai (Initial Release) is the second form of the Zanpakuto. The second form is activated by the use of the Zanpakuto’s name. Bankai (Final Release) is the final form of a Zanpakuto. Bankai generally requires a decade to achieve and more time to master. Their are various types of Zanpakuto (fire or ice for example) and the transformation from shikai to bankai can be very interesting.

Best Anime Villian

Doflamingo Heads to Punk Hazard

Donquixote Doflamingo

Donquixote Doflamingo is a member of the Shickibukai in One Piece. He’s captain of the Doflamingo pirates and King of Dressrosa. Under the alias “Joker” he’s an underground broker. His bounty reached 340 million beli before he became a shickibukai. For most of the first half of the series he remain mysterious, but he’s since become the focus of the series. Donquixote’s abilities haven’t been clearly defined yet however, it seems to be that it was related to strings in some way.

Doflamingo Dices Meteorite

What makes Donquixote such a good anime villian is his seeming sadistic nature. Donquixote has a rather carefree personality on the surface and he appears to be completely fearless. He generally gleeful when being cruel to his opponents. His string ability has a puppeteer effect, and he seems to enjoy pitting comrades against each other. He shows glee at the death and mayhem during the war. He loved killing Gekko Moriah (even though he failed), he had no issue selling slaves. Despite his appearance Donquixote Doflamingo is clearly a man without much morals and his cruelty know no bounds.

Kagome Higurashi and Inuyasha

Inuyasha was initially angry at Kagome due to her uncanny resemblence to his former love Kikyo (who he thought betrayed him). He soon realized that she was not Kikyo and began to show her kindness. Their relationship is seen and discussed often by their friends. Throughout the series their relationship changes from being close friends to falling in love. They were separated for a few years after Naraku’s death. Soon, Kagome was able to return and marries Inuyasha, and is living  in the feudal era as Inuyasha’s wife.
