Mikasa Ackerman is my anime crush (I guess). If you don’t know she is one of the title characters of Attack on Titan. What’s not to love about Mikasa. She’s loyal, pretty and strong. She’s a little dark due to the fact that her parents were murdered. She loves Eren and Armin fiercely and will do any thing for them. Mikasa has a strong sense of morality. I do think her dependence on Eren is a little unhealthy but nobody is perfect. She’s brave and was the top graduate of her class. Her ability to fight is impressive and I think she’s bad ass. Mikasa is a strong character with good morals, a good heart and great fighting skills.
Air Gear is a shōnen manga written and illustrated by Ito Ōgure. Air Gear main protagonist Itsuki Minami also known as “Baby Face” or “Crow” to his friends. The characters use Air Treks, an “in-universe invention derived from inline skates”. The characters compete against each other in teams. The series concluded on May 28, 2012 with Chapter 357. I’ve always wanted to read this manga and watch the anime it seems like a very interesting. I have seen some of the art of the manga and I think its very well done, great detail and well done character designs. I think the battle style is also original and impressively complex. I will begin reading the manga at some point, but so far I haven’t yet.
I feel like every week each episode of Attack on Titan is better than the last. I might be a prisoner of the moment considering I just finished watching this latest episode but EPIC. SimplyEPIC. There’s no denying in my opinion that this is hands down the best episode of the series. The episode feels short because it was so engrossing. The animation in this episode was beautifully rendered as well. After killing Gunter the traitor transforms into her titan form (making my heart skip a little) and cuing in the kick ass music.
The remaining members of “Levi Squad” decided to fight the female titan in order to facilitate Eren’s escape. I instantly though this seemed like a bad idea but they went for it. Levi’s squad impressed me with their skill set, quickly gaining the upper hand by blinding the female titan and then proceeding to cut the tendons in her arms (leaving her neck exposed). I wasn’t so naive to believe that the actually would kill the female titan but i was still curious as to how the female titan would escape. She didn’t disappoint continuing her brutal assault. While I’m not a invested in Levi Squad as characters I grew to like them and the deaths made me cringe a little.
Eren devastated draws the correct conclusion that had he transformed sooner he might have been able to save all his comrades. The climax of this episodes was Eren verses the Female titan. Despite Eren’s determination his fighting was a bit rabid and uncoordinated. The female titan (who I still believe is Anna) seems to be more skilled. Eren seems to have more power but the female titan has better evasion. Eren’s rage is paramount, the fight is brutal and Eren (titan body) ends up decapitated and the female titan swallows Eren (yes swallows).
Witnessing this Misaka leaps into action trying to free Eren. Misaka is simply BAD ASSbut her skills weren’t good enough to free him. She’s joined by Levi who tells her to wait as the female titan seems to tire. Maybe together they might be able to save Eren? So is this the best episode so far? Are you afraid to get too attached to the characters? What are your favorite moments? Will Eren and Levi be enough?
Too be honest I’m not deeply ashamed that I liked “Samurai Pizza Cats”, but do have a little shame. The series was set in the city of “little Tokyo”. The city is headed by Emperor Fred. The city is truly controlled by “the Big Cheese” who’s a rat trying to over throw the Emperor. He has his minions Jerry Atric and Bad Bird and a army of ninja crows. Speedy Cerviche, Polly Esther, and Guido Anchovy are three cyborg cat samurais chosen to guard the city. Samurai Pizza Cats is rather ridiculous from the story to the names but I still enjoyed it. By far the best part of the series is the theme song (English version).
Most female characters in anime are generally secondary. This also true of Sakura Haruno. She always had potential to be a great kunoichi (female ninja), but it took her until just recently to achieve that potential. For some reason I’ve always loved medic type characters and Sakura is one of the best medic in Naruto. Sakura has always wanted to get stronger as she became tired of being protected. She has a fiery personality and had a crush on Sasuke Uchiha. She was trained by Tsunade the strongest kunoichi, although Sakura may have surpassed her. With medical skills, fearlessness and massive strength Sakura is hands down my favorite.
Unlike the last post this was easy to answer Monkey D. Luffy hands down.
Monkey D. Luffy ( Also known as Straw Hat Luffy) is a pirate and the main character of the anime and manga One Piece. His life long dream is to become pirate king and obtain the much sought after “one piece”. He ate the devil fruit Gomu Gomu no Mi and leads the pirate crew “the straw hat pirates”. Luffy quickly rises to fame through his adventures and misdeeds. Luffy is a character that has compassion, courage and intergity. He never kills his opponents and always fights hard. This has lad to him having a 400,000,000 bounty on his head. He loves his crew (nakama) and would never leave them behind. Much like his personality Luffy’s fighting style can be unpredictable, being rubber can create interesting, silly and cool attacks that do some series damage. Luffy is fast becoming one of the strongest characters in one piece.
This question seems almost impossible to answer but I’ll try. The difference between anime can be vast. However, there are many high quality anime that has been produced and are currently being produced. So in order to determine which anime I liked the best so far I decided to compare the likely hood that I re-watch them after I’ve seen them. Whether they stand the test of time (do I still enjoy them as much as I use to). The engaging story, quality of characters and animation. I also compared the quality of battles. For more check out my post “What I look for in Anime and Manga“. First I’ll give my top ten then I’ll give my favorite. My top ten is (in no special order):
Sailor Moon. Like most Americans I was exposed to only a handful of anime as a child. Most anime came on too early in the morning for me to watch (5:00am to be exact) so I could only catch “Sailor Moon”. For those who are unaware sailor moon is an anime about 14 year old girl named Usagi Tsukino (Serena in America). She meets a cat named Luna. Luna tells her that she is magical warrior with the destiny to save the earth from evil. As the series progresses Serena and Luna search for the other Moon princesses. They find Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Venus and Sailor Jupiter among others. The story is decided into five arcs.
Erwin Smith: 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls, Part 4
Another week another EPIC Attack on Titan. Attack on Titan never seems to disappoint me. This episode featured everything that makes this series great. The episode featured good animation, action, mystery, intrigued, tension and a plot twist. We learn a little bit about the female titans abilities. She has the ability to harden her skin much like the armored titan. With a primal scream she seems to have the ability to command lesser minded titans. Commander Erwin suspected that someone in the rookie class is helping the titans or is the female titan.
It was also revealed that the spy is most likely responsible for killing sonny and bean. Armin explains the commanders shrewd mindset and his willingness to sacrifice soldiers for the greater good. He explains that “anyone who can’t sacrifice anything, can’t ever change anything”. The episode ends with Gunter’s brutal death at the hands of the “traitor”. For some reason I found it worst for the traitor to kill a solider while human as opposed to doing so while in titan form. So what do you think was the episode well balanced ? How do you feel about Commander Erwin’s willingness to sacrifice? Have figured out who the female titan is?
Forest of Giant Trees: 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls, Part 2
Continuing from where the last episode left off Armin, Reiner and Jean are left with only one horse as the female titan heads towards Eren. They’re rescued by Christa who has several horses with her. Much like the previous episode the “Female Titan” was the highlight of this episode. The Female Titan engages in battle with four soldiers. They attempt to attack simultaneously expecting that even an intelligent Titan couldn’t counter. She jumps crushing two of the soldiers. The most jarring kill comes when she kills the third solider by spinning him by his wire.
The fourth solider attempts to escape to no avail she quickly kills him. Who ever this Titan is her cruelty seems to give her great pleasure. The female titan maintains her chase as Eren under the command of Levi head into the forest. As the Female titan gains on Eren’s group they are ordered to draw their weapons. The female titan continues her brutal massacre of the soldiers smashing one into a tree. At the end Levi seems to have a plan as he shoots into the air.
Bite: 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls, Part 3
This episode featured less action than the previous two, however some light was shed on how Titans (Eren) transforms. Eren begins to questioning Levi decision or lack there off. Eren struggles weather he should transform or not. A flash back is triggered, Eren remembers his previous time with Levi’s squad. Levi clams to have figured a way to stop Eren without killing him. Hanji takes center stage in this episode. I like her as a character she fitting the mad scientist archetype well. Hanji manages to be funny and a little scary at the same time. She gets permission to do experiment with or on Eren, but he seems willing. Her first experiment is to have Eren transform in a dried up well. However, this experiment completely fails leaving Eren with a series of bloody bite marks.
Later Eren drops a teaspoon when he touches it he instantly transforms. Hanji while ecstatic notices that the titan armed that formed was holding the teaspoon. Hanji concludes that “Eren must have a clear goal in mind, as he always had each time he transformed”. Back in the present Eren finally decides trust his squad, at this moment the Female titan begins to accelerate. Irvin gives a command and she is trapped. While this episode didn’t feature a great deal of action it did add intrigue to the story. So do you think Hanji is correct? What do you think of Hanji as a character? Who do you think the Female Titan is?
