My Hero Academia Season 5, Episode 24, “Tomura Shigaraki: Origin,” explores the aftermath of Tenko Shimura’s massacre of his family and how he came to be known as Tomura Shigaraki. After killing his family, Tenko wanders the street hoping someone will help him. The only person to help was All For One. He tells Tenko that “the reason for his itch is his innate desire to want to destroy, and that he should embrace it.” This is the first instance of All For One manipulating Tenko and encouraging his destructive behavior. He continues to encourage Tenko’s most violent instincts. Tenko is assaulted by two men and they become his first targets. He finally kills them with his Quirk while Doctor Ujiko and All For One watch.
They discuss his lost memories. All For One says that without them Tenko is “unstable,” and his Quirk will not reach it’s true potential until he remembers. After celebrating Tenko’s kill by giving Tenko the hands of the two men he kill, All For One renames him Tomura Shigaraki. The first name is derived from “tomurau” witch means “mourn” and “Shigaraki” is All For One’s last name. All For One officially becomes Tomura’s surrogate father. In the present, Tomura destroys the last hand. Finally at peace, declaring that “he doesn’t need a future and the League can do what they desire.”
Destroying whatever he wants is fun
Tomura and Re-Destro continue their fight. Re-Destro attacks with Stress: 100%, which Tomura destroys with Decay. Re-Destro notices his stress recedes when watching Tomura. He presses a button and several pieces of armor emerge from the ground. The Burden-Amplifying Steel Pressure Mechanism: Claustro allows him to increase his Stress output to 150%. Meanwhile, Gigantomachia rampages towards Tomura. Geten leaves his fight with Dabi to pursue the giant. Trumpet and Skeptic rush to protect Re-Destro.
The Claustro suit isn’t doing much against Tomura. Re-Destro looks back at Tomura and realizes that he’s a “man who has been liberated from everything.” Tomura activates Decay, which destroys the leg of Re-Destro’s suit. Tomura continues to spread his Decay destroying more of the city. The Claustro suit is destroyed and Re-Destro has to amputate his legs after being affected by Decay. Re-Destro accepts his defeat. Gigantomachia accepts Tomura, and Tomura accepts his role as the new leader of the MLA.
