Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 9 & 10: Recap & Review

Susamaru six arms

Episode 9, Temari Demon and Arrow Demon

Susamaru throws her two temari balls at the house. Tanjiro sends Nezuko to take the wounded woman to the basement for protection. Susamaru states that she and Yahaba are members of the “Twelve Demon Moons.” These demon are considered to be the most powerful generals that serve directly under Kibutsuji. Susamaru increases the number of her arms to six and the number of temari to six as well. Tanjiro has difficultly understanding how the temari are able to move.

Yushiro regenerating

It turns out that Yahaba and Susamaru had been working together. Yahaba had been using his telekinetic arrow controls to move the temari around. Yushiro uses a Blood Art spell to give Tanjiro his sight. This allows Tanjiro to finally see the arrows. When Nezuko attacks Yahaba he loses control of the arrows and Tanjiro is able to cut the arms off of Susamaru. Tanjiro faces off against Yahaba and Nezuko, Tamayo, and Yushiro fight Susamaru. Tamayo is recognized as a “fugitive,” leading Susamaru and Yahaba to target her. Nezuko loses her leg trying to kick on off Susamaru’s temari.

Tanjiro struggles to gain control over his fight with Yahaba. The arrows can’t be cut and if he does touch them his sword moves in the direction of the arrow. Tanjiro manages to combine several techniques with the arrows from Yahaba creating a force strong enough to decapitate Yahaba.

Tanjiro kills Yahaba

Yahaba’s final attack

Episode 10, Together Forever

As Yahaba starts to die, he attacks Tanjiro with his arrows. He attempts to kill Tanjiro by using his arrows to slam Tanjiro into a wall or anything that could hurt him. Tanjiro uses moves over and over again trying to prevent himself from falling. Yahaba dies, leaving Tanjiro exhausted as he falls to the ground. He breaks his leg and has to crawl to Nezuko. Tamayo medicine heals Nezuko’s leg and she rejoins the fight. Nezuko faces off against Susamaru. She’s shows once again that she has been able to fight with a high level demon without consuming human blood.

Tamayo using the Aroma of Daylight

She and Susamaru engage in a kicking battle, kicking the temari back and forth with increase power. Susamaru creates six temari, before she can do anything Tamayo interferes. She calls Kibutsuji a “coward,” stating that “he [Kibutsuji] programmed his demons with the instinct to kill each other so they won’t band together and kill them.” Susamaru becomes enraged and doesn’t notice that Tamayo begins to cast a spell – Magical Aroma of Daylight. This spell weakens the brain function’s causing Susamaru to say Kibutsuji name.

The Kibutsuji curse

This triggers the “Kibutsuji curse,” since demon aren’t suppose to mention his name, when they do the curse is triggered. Shockingly, three arms burst out of body and crushes her. It turns out that neither Susamaru and Yahaba were part of the “Twelve Kizuki” meaning that the demons were too weak. Once again we see the demons are “humanized.” Susamaru, is reduced to nothing but an arm. She asks Tanjiro to “play with her,” before she is killed by the sunlight, Tanjiro feels sympathy for her. Kibutsuji even lied to her by telling her she was an elite demon.

Tamayo crying

Kibutsuji is becoming a more “evil” character, while, the other demons seem to be getting a more nuance treatment. To this point when Nezuko considers Tamayo and Yushiro to be “human,” she starts to cry. So far she and Yushiro are the most human like in this series. However, Kibutsuji also seems to behave like a “human,” despite his cruel demon behavior. I wonder if we will see more demons like this.
