The second and third season trailer of FLCL was released. Cartoon Networks Adult Swim, along with Production IG revived the series. There will be a dozen episodes, divided between the two seasons. FLCL 2 and FLCL 3 will be released in 2018. The animation and style in the trailer is consistent with the previous season. However, the question is without the majority of the cast from the previous series, will FLCL still maintain elements that made it good?
During the latest Nintendo Direct, the next installments in the Pokemon series were revealed. Pokken Tournament DX was heavily represented and at the end of the trailer Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon. Despite the rumors the Switch doesn’t appear to be getting a Pokemon RPG, at least not yet. The updated versions of the games will be exclusive to the 3DS and released on November 17, 2017.
According to the Pokemon Direct video, “each will offer an alternative story set in the same world as Sun and Moon, and will feature new Pokemon that didn’t appear in those games.” Is the rumored, Pokemon Stars real, I hope so but we won’t find out for awhile anyway. In the meantime, Pokemon Ultra will have to do.
The next Godzilla movie will be animated by Toho animation and streamed on Netflix. This will be the 32nd film in the series, but the first animated film. It will be the first of a trilogy, being released in Japan in November 2017. In the movie the human race abandons the Earth after being forced to leave due to Godzilla and other monsters. The central governments AI chooses people to send on a mission to the planet Tau-e, after 20 years of space travel they find that it’s basically inhabitable.
They decided to return to Earth and defeat Godzilla and the monsters. However, it has been 20,000 years and Earth has change with Godzilla being the center of the ecosystem. The movie explores how humanity will attempt to regain it’s place at the top of the world. I have seen almost every Godzilla movie, visually they don’t always hold. I also love animated movies so this movie excites me. The general premise sounds interesting, although I don’t see how humanity stands much of a chance, but that’s why you should watch right?
Nintendo Switch system details
The pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch starts on January 21 (according to venturebeat), but I have already acquired my pre-order from Amazon. The Switch will be released worldwide on March 3, 2017, it will cost $300. The Switch features a 6.2 in screen, with multi-touch capabilities. It has been confirmed that the Nintendo Switch will have “32 gigabytes of internal memory, and it is expandable via microSD cards. The 256-gigabyte microSD card fits in the back, near the kickstand.”
The Joy of the Joy-cons
Nintendo focused on the controllers, named the Joy-cons. According to venturebeat “There’s a left and a right version, and Joy-Con grip that connects them so they can be used as one controller. Each controller has an accelerometer and a gyro sensor, enabling the Joy-Cons to detect movement. The right Joy-Con also has an infrared camera sensor that can detect shapes and objects a couple of feet away.”
Nintendo Switch online service
Nintendo announced that it will finally be charging for it’s online services. It will be giving Nintendo Switch owners a free trail period. According to Nintendo, “This service lets Nintendo Switch owners enjoy online multiplayer gaming as well as a dedicated smartphone app that connects to your Nintendo Switch system and helps you connect with friends for online play sessions.”
The online service will also have an online lobby and voice chat. Nintendo has developed a smart device app, to connect Nintendo Switch, allowing gamers to “let you invite friends to play online, set play appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games, all from your smart device.” Subscribers will get to download one game a month for free, and will also get some exclusive deals.
The games coming to the Switch
All this new information was great, but none of it matters without the games. It was pleasant to here that third party was so far on board with the Switch. Nintendo also announced that it will no longer be region locking their games. Some of the games that they revealed were:
Overall, I thought the presentation did what it intended. While, many gamers seem troubled that there aren’t a large variety of games for the launch, I think that always seems to happen. Nintendo has managed to spread out their first party games at least for the first year, with Zelda at launch (March 3), Super Bomberman R (March 3), Mario Kart 8 deluxe (April 28), Splatoon 2 (Summer), and of course Super Mario Odyssey (Holiday 2017). I’m more excited for this console now than ever. Can’t wait until March 3.
The rumors that Marvel verses Capcom have turned out to be correct. The official trailer and a gameplay trailer have been released. Several characters have been confirmed, Ryu, Mega Man, Captain Marvel and Iron Man. The game will include single player, mission mode, training, cinematic story mode, as well as online features.
For those who may not know, Marvel vs Capcom is a series that features iconic characters from Marvel comics and Capcom video games. It debuted in 1999 and has since generated over 7 million in copies sold. Sony announced that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, the previous game in the series, will be exclusive for the Playstation 4.
Capcom has announced that they are looking to “enhance its corporate value even further by utilizing its library of rich contents.” If Capcom does revitalize some of it’s core series it could be a good few years.
Pokemon anime was just released
The latest Pokemon anime series was just released in Japan on Thursday. An anime adaptation of the upcoming (Nov. 18) Pokemon Sun and Moon games, the new series looks to be a hit. I haven’t really watched a full season of Pokemon since the Sinnoh League, but I might be convinced to watch this series from start to finish. I’ve already seen the first two episodes and I really enjoyed them.
The art style of the series, particular Ashes new look was a point of controversy, but I didn’t really notice. The overall animation in the series was what I notice. The brighter colors, more dramatic facial reactions and fluid motion are much better than previous Pokemon anime. I’m excited for this upcoming season, although it will be weird without Pokemon gym, I hope there will be good battles. Anyway, if you want to check out the first two episodes without subtitles they’re on YouTube.
Everything we know about Mass Effect Andromeda so far. The last time we saw the Mass Effect series it was 2012. Closing a trilogy that was highly regarded as a game changer in the video-game industry. Bioware announced the next game in the series on June 15, 2015. Very little has been reveal about the latest Mass Effect game. Some details have been revealed through leaks and teasers. Mass Effect Andromeda has been delayed until early 2017. While we wait here’s what has been reveal so far:
Unlike the previous games, Mass Effect Andromeda won’t pit up where you left of in Mass Effect 3. Actually, it won’t even feature the planet Earth. The story picks up hundreds of years after the defense of Earth by Commander Shepard, in a completely different galaxy. Instead the main protagonists will be looking for a new planet for humans to call home.
Large and Open World
With the new capabilities of the next gen consoles, Mass Effect will be an expansive open world game. The game is rumored to be, “four times,” the size of the previous game. Load times are no longer noticeable, allowing a player to seamlessly explore the environments.
Choices are still key
One of the defining features of the Mass Effect series is the in game choice wheel. So of the choices in the previous games felt like they really didn’t matter. Creative director Mac Walters has stated that he, “to embrace choice and diversity with what you can do in the game.” The Bioware team also will be changing how the romantic relationships in the game function.
New Races and other changes
The character the player will control can be male or female. They will actual be siblings and will have the last name Ryder. While the main protagonist will be human, there will be several returning races, like the Asari and Krogan. At least two new races will be introduced to the series. This game will not feature any vehicle combat, only exploration. Multiplayer will feature various mission types that will have benefits for the main game. We will have more information when Bioware celebrates N7 day on November 7th.

A new batch of Pokemon have been revealed. I have been underwhelmed so far regarding their design. Unfortunately, my disappointment continues. The new video shows some new aspects introduced into the series, such as Aloha forms and Z-moves.
Pokemon Sun & Moon introduces a whole new mechanic to the series that uses a ring on the trainer’s wrist like Mega evolution. These powerful moves can only be done once per battle. According to the video each type will have one of these Z-moves.
Gigavolt Havoc (Electric)
Bloom Doom (Grass)
Inferno Overdrive (Fire)
Hydro Vortex (Water)
Pokemon now react to “micro-climates,” changing their appearance, type and move sets. This is a new mechanic that can take the older generation of Pokemon and make them newer. That fact that they basically become different Pokemon, except for their names. Overall, I like this new addition.
Exeggutor adds the dragon typing, his design is ridiculous. There something strange about his long neck with no arms. Exeggutor wasn’t that cool looking to begin with, this doesn’t help.
Alolan Sandshrew & Alolan Sandslash
Sandshrew and Sandslash add the ability snow cloak. Unlike, Exeggutor they’re typing has completely change from ground type to ice/steel. They will be brutalized by fire types and their design isn’t bad.
Alolan Vulpix & Alolan Ninetales
Like Sandshrew and Sandslash, Vulpix and Ninetales get a change of appearance, typing, abilities and move sets. Ninetales adds a fairy typing and a more majestic design. I’ve always like Ninetales, it’s design is an upgrade.
Looks really mean and intimating. Standing upright, darkening in color and gaining more hair. These Pokemon tend to be used for HM’s and discarded after the first gym or so. I don’t think that will change.
Is the first form of Mudsdale. Seems like an appropriate design considering it’s more dramatic evolution. Also the video does show that Mudsdale can be rode during the game.
Is a strange looking Pokemon. It’s mostly a small meteor. It’s typing and ability is the most interesting aspect. A rock/flying type is rather unique (as far as I could remember). It’s ability “Shields Down,” “Protects from status conditions and has high Defense until it hits 50% where it causes the Pokémon to change form.” Is impressive.
Fomantis & Lurantis
Fomantis evolves into Lurantis. Their both grass types and resemble praying mantis. Lurantis looks OK, but nothing special. Most two evolution Pokemon, I find aren’t worth using. However, Lurantis learns an interesting new move Solar Blade. Solar Blade, “It absorbs energy from the sun on the first move and then unleashes a powerful attack on the second turn.” It’s basically a physical Solarbeam.
The most interesting Pokemon that was revealed. I like the designed, based on “dancing” styles. Corresponding with the “dancing style,” with a different typing. Fire/Flying-type, Electric/Flying-type, Ghost/Flying-type, and Psychic/Flying-type. I’m hoping this Pokemon has an evolution. Oricorio also has a new move, called Revelation Dance. Revelation Dance “Changes type depending on the form of Oricorio.”
At E3 this Capcom finally showed us Resident Evil 7 . . . well not really. The teaser demo they released was more of a preview. According to IGN the director Koushi Nakanishi said of the teaser, that it is a “kind of a tonal preview instead of a content preview.” The demo didn’t feature all the gameplay elements that will be in the final game. The teaser was released as a free demo on PSN.
Nakanishi emphasized that the older elements of Resident Evil like “puzzle solving, resource management, and combat,” will return. The demo reminds many gamers of the Silent Hill: PT demo. This demo didn’t have a great deal of action, but did feature puzzle solving. It was also from the first person perspective.
You play a cameraman that breaks into an abandoned home to film a movie. After you wake up you search the house for clues, while trying to leave the house. You can “beat” the demo and get multiple endings. Some fans have expressed disappointment regarding the demo. However, Capcom has put those disappointments to rest, revealing that “this is just a statement of intent, purpose, to say it’s back.”
Resident Evil 7 will exists in the same universe as RE5 and RE6. Instead of the action style of the RE5 and RE6, the game will be more like the previous games in the series. Nakanishi has said to Eurogamer. “We are separating these aspects out into different titles where that gameplay can come to the fore, and makes the most sense for that title. [Resident Evil 7] is not going to be a gun fest.”
IGN spoke with producer Masachika Kawata and director Koushi Nakanishi to learn more about the game. Resident 7 will not be a “reboot,” Kawata said “It’s the next title in the numbered series, so obviously it’s part of the Resident Evil universe, and overall canon, so to speak. It’s not a separate thing, but we have intentionally made it so that maybe when you first play it you’ll almost think: how could this possibly be related to the rest of Resident Evil? But it is. It is an extension of the series so far. It’s not a reboot. It’s the next main game.”
The article is worth a full read, but overall this demo is a good start. It definitely sets the tone for the series return to it’s survivor horror roots. Hopefully, they can find a balance between action and horror. The first person perspective can take getting use. However, I do think that the first person view will add to the horror aspect in this game. I’m excited, and hope that Capcom delivers.
Nintendo has a habit of changing very little and updating their handhelds slightly and still manage to sell millions of the “new”DS. This time they seemed to put more into this new handheld. I clearly sounding negative but I want one. I don’t know why they didn’t pair the new 3Ds with the Pokemon remakes, that seems to be a lost opportunity.
- Right sided analog control stick added (C – Stick)
- ZL and ZR shoulder buttons
- Facial Camera tracing
- Automatic brightness toggling
- Built-in NFC technology for use with Amiibo figures
- wireless transfer of media files between the handheld and a PC
- more powerful CPU
- greater storage
- improved web browser
- improved battery life
- new colored face buttons
- larger screen size
- compatible with 3DS games
- however certain games can only work on the new CPU.
