Fire Force (Fire Brigade of Flames) is becoming an anime later this year, according to Atsushi Okubo the creator. Yuki Yase at David Production (JoJo’s Bizarre, Cells at Work!) will be handling the direction for the series. Yamato Haishima will be handling the scripts, with Hideyuki Morioka doing the design for the characters.
Fire Force is a manga series that’s was created by Atsushi Okubo, published by Kodansha and serialized in the Weekly Shonen Magazine. Fire Force is set in a world where human ” spontaneously ignite and turn into flaming demon-like creatures, a disease most feared and known by the name “Human Body Ignition Phenomenon”. The series focuses on Shinra Kusakabe, who joins the Special Fire Force Company 8 to fight the Flame Humans.
I wrote an introduction to the series back in 2015, here. Despite likely Okubo’s art style I wasn’t able to maintain my interest in the manga, however, sometimes the anime is more enjoyable than the manga or vice versa. Regardless, I’m gonna give the anime a chance. It’s looks good:
Sunrise announced with Bandai Namco Entertainment that a spin-off to Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans will be released. Entitled Iron-Blooded Orphans: Urs Hunt it will be available in a smartphone app which combines anime and game elements. According to the ANN report, Urs Hunt is set in P.D. 323:
Gjallarhorn’s political intervention in the Arbrau Central Parliament escalated into an armed conflict using mobile suits. The incident was brought to an end by Tekkadan, a group of youths who came from Mars.
Word of Tekkadan’s exploits even reached the ears of Wistario Afam, a boy born and raised in the Radonitsa Colony floating above Venus. Venus, which lost a terraforming rivalry with Mars, is a remote planet for which even the four major economic blocs has shown little interest. The inhabitants do not even carry IDs, and the planet is just used as a place to exile criminals.
Wistario wishes to change the status quo of his birthplace — and then, appearing before him, is a girl who claims to be the guide to the Urðr-Hunt.
The app will be a free download for iOS and Android devices. Also a official manga for called “Yurutetsu,” will be launched as well. Another announcement is expected in August. The anime first premiered in 2015, a second season debuted in 2016.
Attack on Titan won’t return until this spring but according to comicbook.com, Araki Tetsuro and Koizuka Masashi spoke with Animedia about what to expect from the rest of the season. Tetsuro stated that “things will kick off fast when the anime resumes.” The director said that “It will go straight into everyone’s much-anticipated combat with Titans. After that it’s battle after battle after battle – we’ll finally have a sudden death confrontation with the Titan Shifters.”
Koizuka “teased” the arrival of new weaponry. “Speaking of combat, there are new weapons in play. That weapon will become the responsibility of someone from Episode 49.” While I thought the pacing and focus on story was a refreshing change to the series and fighting and killing humans instead of Titans created an interesting conflict, I did start to miss the harrowing fights between Titans and humans. Of course I also believe that the second half of the season will feature deaths of some of our favorite scouts.
One Punch Man is an anime and manga series created by an artist and writer that goes by the name ONE. It focuses on the world strongest hero, Saitama. He’s basically invincible and can defeat his opponents with just one punch. One Punch Man does a magnificent thing, while being a parody of the shonen genre it manages to also be a great shonen series itself.
The first season of One Punch Man premiered in 2015, was well received and a massive success. It’s has been considered to be one of the best anime series ever. Viz Media is the publisher of the series in English and covers digital streaming, TV broadcast, media and merchandising. Viz Media announced that One Punch Man will return in April. There’s currently no information on which streaming platforms the season will be available on.
The production of the second season was delayed for reasons unknown. Madhouse stopped working on the series, resulting in J.C. Staff (Food Wars!, Toradora) handling the series. One Punch Man will be directed by Chikara Sakurai, who has worked on many Naruto: Shippuuden movies. The trailer doesn’t show much from the upcoming season but does introduce some of the new characters.
Studio 3Hz is producing an original anime “Blackfox.” Kazuya Nomura is directing this anime, having already directed Robotics Notes, Joker Game, Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie. Naoki Hayashi (Flip Flappers) will be the scriptwriter, with character design from Atsushi Saito. Studio 3Hz is known primarily for Princess Principal.
Details of release dates and more in-depth story details aren’t known. However, the series seem to focus on female modern day ninja. Rikka Isurugi is expected to succeed her grandfather as head of the Isurugi ninja clan. Mia, a psychic is highly intelligent chess master, Melissa, Rikka’s roommate that takes care of the home she shares with Rikka and finally the mysterious “girl in the fox mask.”
The story according to the official website is:
Living in a ninja residence tucked away in a corner of a futuristic city is Rikka, the eldest daughter of a Ninja clan, who looks up to her father—a researcher—very much. Carrying on with her life normally, Rikka’s home came suddenly under attack one day. Driven into a corner, what would she do to overcome this crisis? Rip darkness to pieces and become “BLACK”!
Microsoft has been lagging in sales compared to the PS4 and soon the Switch. The largest part of the problem seems to be a lack of exclusive games. While not exclusive we did see the debut of a new Kingdom Heart 3 trailer featuring Frozen.
Square Enix announced that KH3 will be released January 2019 :
Halo Infinite was announced for Windows 10 and Xbox One. Personally, I stopped caring about Halo years ago but I would like to see fans of the series get another good entry. The teaser was brief and will be made by 343 Industries.
Gear of War is another series that I stopped caring about. The gameplay that was at one point revolutionary became rather stale. The large brooding characters and large monsters are back. Along with Gears of War 5, Microsoft announced a mobile game as well a turn-based strategy game for PC.
Gears of War 5:
Finally a game I’m excited about, Devil May Cry 5. It’s been a decade since DMC4 and apparently this is the “true” sequel. The trailer seem to introduce a new remodeled Nero, and of course Dante returns, regardless it looks epic.
Anthem, is a new IP from Bioware/EA, slated to be released in 2018. The game will be released on PC, Xbox One and PS4, an open world RPG that is being compared to Destiny and Titanfall, with some Mass Effect elements. Anthem is a science fantasy game similar to Star Wars, meaning that technology and the surrounding environment isn’t using real science. You play as a Freelancer, an explorer of the large landscape. Up to four players can play together, you share in the exploits of missions. Freelancers can wear fully customizable exosuits called Javelins. So far two Javelin types were revealed the Ranger and the Colossus.
Bioware has made it clear that single player will also be a big component of the game. Anthem’s lead designer Corey Gaspur confirmed on twitter that, “single player experience is very important to the team.” EA has suggested that Anthem is a “10 year journey,” this is a similar strategy to that of Activision’s view of Destiny. EA’s executive VP Patrick Soderlund stated that “Anthem is a social game where you and your friends go on quests and journeys. It’s a game that we’ve been working on for almost four years now, and once we launch it next year I think it’ll be the start of a ten-year journey for us.”
The former script writer from Mass Effect and KOTOR is work on the story for the game, showing that EA/Bioware is serious about single player. Players will encounter “world-altering events called Shaper Storms.” These storms are similar to Destiny’s “public events,” they are “massive tempests crackling with lightning that wreak havoc on the environment as they intensify. Shaper Storms seem to warrant grouping up to prepare for an added challenge.” You will face off against marauders and beasts, you will have a home base or main hub called Fort Tarsus. Protected by a wall that segregates the civilians from the more dangerous outside environment, you’ll be free to go in any direction.
