In December of last year, at Shonen Jump’s Jump Festa the follow up to Naruto was announced. Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachimaru, will be written by Masashi Kishimoto and illustrated by Akira Okubo, a former assistant on Naruto and the brother of Atsushi Okubo (Soul Eater, Fire Force). Kishimoto stated that he ” I like Japanese-styled things: I’m thrilled about the culture and decor. I like sci-fi things too. I’m excited for this gimmick and it’s creation. Since I like both things, I’ve decided to mix them together to depict this work.” He hopes to make it “even more interesting than the Naruto series!”
Unlike Naruto, Samurai 8 will obviously focus on samurai instead of ninja. Similar to the Naruto series it will be more than a samurai series like Rurouni Kenshin. Infused with sci-fi, the series will feature cyborgs, futuristic weapons and outer space. While I didn’t like Boruto, I have high hopes for this series. The problem, so will millions of Naruto fans. The high expectations could be a curse for the series or help it have an instant audience. Another problem is appetite for another shonen series. With series like Black Clover and My Hero Academia doing well, not to mention One Piece is still king, will there be room for one more?
From what little that’s been seen so far, I like the direction the series is expected to take. More importantly to me I like the art style. What do you think. Will Samurai 8 live up to the hype? Will it be successful as the current shonen series? Can it surpass Naruto?
Samurai 8 will run in Shonen Jump later this year.
First I would like to thank Merlin Musings for tagging me. I’ve seen this tag around for a while and was wonder if someone would tag me. Lynn Sheridan is credited with creating this tag. The tag is inspired of course by One Piece. Regardless, Let’s get to my crew:
Display the My Pirate Crew logo and add ‘My Pirate Crew’ as a tag.
Thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog.
Link back to the original post here (so I can compare your crews to mine).
Select seven anime characters and give them a position on the crew. These are the positions you can to fill. Warrior, sniper, chef, doctor, scientist, navigator, strategist, mechanic, entertainer.
Nominate 5-10 bloggers.
Set sail and rule the seas!
The Navigator – Hyuga Neji
Neji is a member of the Hyuga clan. As a prodigy, Neji is highly intelligent. The reason I have chose him for my navigator is simple, the Byakugan. The Byakugan grants the user a ” near 360º diameter field of vision” and the ability to see over 20 kilometers away, along with vision that can “can penetrate through any solid objects or obstructions.” I think this ability makes him a perfect navigator.
The Chef – Brock
Brock from Pokemon is the former Pewter City Gym Leader. The eldest of nine children, which his absentee father left him in the care of, Brock is known for his domestic abilities. He’s a caretaker at heart, good at sewing, cleaning and of course cooking. He’s also capable of creating food for animals, which could be helpful.
The Entertainer – Mako Mankanshoku
Mako is hyperactive, fearless, silly and funny. She also manages to be lazy with all that energy that result in a clash of personality traits. Mako was the primary source of humor in the Kill la Kill. She can also be quite dramatic and interrupt moments of seriousness.
The Mechanic – Duo Maxwell
Duo is the pilot of the XXXG-01 Gundam Deathscythe. Duo is an expert at communication and computer based work. As a member of the Sweeper Group, Duo loved “tinker with scrap metal and junk computer bits.” His talent is undeniable.
The Sniper – Yoko Littner
Yoko is a member of Team Dai-Gurren in the anime Gurren Lagann. She’s often armed with a range of firearms including a “long range sniper rifle.” She’s a skilled marksman with her rifle, able to hit weak spots from large distances. She has also shown the ability to hit moving targets during high conflict battles.
The Strategists – Shikamaru Nara
Shikamaru has an IQ of over 200. He’s able to quickly calculate the limits of his opponents and his allies to create or determine complicated strategies. He’s able to keep track of the location of everyone relative to everything else. He studies behavior of enemies, Shikamaru is able to think ten moves ahead of his opponents.
The Doctor – Sakura Haruno
Sakura has been blessed with Chakra control that has seen her acquire massive strength and Medical Ninjutsu. Sakura is able to heal almost any injury. Sakura’s proficiency in medical ninjutsu is extremely rare. She can extract poisons, as well perform surgeries without a instruments. She’s also able to create poison antidotes effortlessly. Her medical skills ” extends to more standard medicine as well, enabling her to perform autopsies and examine cells with a knowledge of genetics.” She’s even created her own Military Rations Pills.
The Scientists – Kisuke Urahara
Kisuke is a former Captain of the 12th Division. He’s also the founder and first President of the Shinigami Research and Development Institute (S.R.D.I). Kisuke has developed many inventions, is able to equipment such as his “holographic computer interface.” He responsible for creating the most “amazing” thing in Soul Society. He has managed to create new inventions quickly. He’s a highly capable chemist and medic.
The Warrior – Broly
I’m choosing the new Broly, as the original one was a bit insane. Regardless, Broly is a saiyan with near limitless power. As a member of the saiyan race he’s a born warrior. They aim to become the strongest in the universe, they’re built for fighting. Most notable when a saiyan survives a near death experience they grow even stronger. Broly is the ultimate warrior.
One of my goals for 2019 is to add more varied content to my blog. List have been popular for a while and of course they’re simple and easy posts to create. First I decided to make some rules:
I’m only going to include anime characters from anime/manga I’ve read or watched. Mainly because I would be familiar with their powers.
I’m only going to include ONE character per series. This is difficult to do, because there are many strong characters in any given series, but I want some variety.
I think it will be difficult to determine how each character on the list would fare against each other, so I going to focus how strong they are within their series. However, I will be thinking how they compare relative to each other.
[Note] This list and any others will focus on characters that MOSTLY or significantly use the element. In this case water. What that would result in is having a list of characters that will have more that just the element in their abilities and I will be factoring these other abilities in as well.
5. Kyogre (Pokemon)
Kyogre is a Water-type legendary Pokemon that was introduced during the third Generation of the Pokemon series. A massive Pokemon modeled after a whale. Kyogre possessed the ability to “expand the oceans” and has control over water and rain. Kyogre is a part of the “weather trio” along with Groudon and Rayquaza.
Kyogre was given a power up during the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games. Called “Primal Reversion,” a Pokemon undergoes a transformation “restore a Pokemon’s true powers as the Pokémon absorbs the energy of nature to greatly increase its power.” Like most legendary Pokemon, Kyogre is capable of using many different types of TM’s. It has a powerful signature move called Origin Pulse. The move shoots multiple orbs and fire energy beams.
Why is Kyogre on this 5th on this list?
Despite his worldwide weather effects, Kyogre is largely limited in it’s ability. Very passive in nature Kyogre isn’t much of a fighter to begin with and it only really has one significant move, Origin Pulse.
Harribel is the former 3rd Espada in Aizen’s army. She eventually becomes the ruler of Hueco Mundo. Like most Espada, Harribel has tremendous skill with a sword. She’s capable of holding her own against a captain-level Shinigami like Hitsugaya. She was even able to hold off a captain and two lieutenant-level Visored together.
She possessed incredible spiritual power and was highly perceptive during combat. Tier was considered to be a master tactician. Her hierro “harden skin” was strong enough to survive Hitsugaya’s attacks without much damage. She also has abilities typical to most Espada like Cero, Sonido and Descorrer.
When Harribel uses her Resurreccion, she releases her special ability. With her new abilities she is able to manipulate water. Her best water techniques are:
Hirviendo – Pointing her blade out, Harribel boils any form of water which comes close to it, including ice, and deflects it around her.
La Gota – Harribel can condense large amounts of water around her blade before firing it as a blast which resembles a shark tooth. She can fire multiple blasts in rapid succession with relative ease. The blasts strike with enough force to demolish houses.
Cascada – Harribel launches a rushing surge of water at her enemy. The torrent of water is large enough to cover several town blocks.
Why is Tier Harribel 4th on this list?
I my opinion Harribel is a far superior fighting tactician than the passive Kyogre. She has a larger variety of techniques as well. However, most of her abilities are shared with other Espada and she only has a handful of unique techniques.
Juvia is a S-Class Mage from the Fairy Tail Guild. She can produce, control and manipulate water. She has a variety of different ways she can produce water, for example she can produce water blades that are strong enough to slice through rock or metal. She can also turn herself into water, allowing physical and magical attack pass through her without damaging her. Some of her best techniques are:
Water Lock – Juvia has the ability to materialize a large circular mass of water, and unlike the Water Dome, it contains no oxygen inside. This spell is used to capture enemies and incapacitate them by suffocation.
Sierra – A full body transformation resembling Water Body, used by Juvia in a state of strong agitation or other influencing emotion (e.g. jealousy or rage). Her strong emotions cause her full body transformation to heat up/boil. This is a short ranged attack which displays enormous, unpredictable speed.
Water-Make – a form of Molding Magic that lets Juvia create, or at the very least manipulate existing water. The scope of usage is not limited to just pure water, but also to things that contain it in large quantities, such as blood.
Why is Juvia 3rd on this list?
I didn’t list all the techniques she possess, her variety is far superior to Kyogre and Tier. While Kyogre can influence the seas, Juvia has more direct control over it. Unlike, Tier, Juvia can even turn herself into water and has defensive water abilities as well.
Tobirama was considered one of the most powerful shinobi ever. He was considered the “fastest shinobi,” at least during his time. His chakra control was such that he could use difficult techniques with just one hand seal. Like most ninja, Tobirama had a large number of sill sets, from summoning techniques, barrier ninjutsu to the Shadow Clone Technique.
Tobirama was an “adept sensor.” He could “accurately detect the presence and location of targets in the surrounding area. He could even sense persons countries away, identify a target’s ancestry from their chakra signature, and even pinpoint a target’s exact location while blinded,” simply by touching his finger to the ground.
While, he could use all nature transformations he mastered Water Release. He could create large amounts of water without a water source. He could use high level water jutsu at any time. He could shoot high pressure water beams that could slice through his targets, create walls of water and cover an entire battlefield with water. Some of his best techniques were:
Flying Thunder God Technique – he could instantly teleport himself and/or other targets to any location marked with his seal.
Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation – which revives the dead into immortal, regenerating bodies.
Mutually Multiplying Explosive Tags – to take advantage of the revived bodies’ natural advantages, using them in kamikaze-like attacks to create near-infinite chains of explosions on a target. He was said to use it whenever he needed to clear a map.
Why is Tobirama 2nd on this list?
To be honest Juvia has superior water abilities than Tobirama. What puts him ahead of her is his other abilities, Space-Time ninjutsu Flying Thunder God Technique is a powerful S-Rank technique. He has a number of techniques that surpass Juvia’s.
Jinbe was the second captain of the Sun Pirates. A former Shichibukai he possessed massive strength. He is so far the strongest fishman seen in the One Piece series. Despite his large size he move quite fast as well. Jinbe also has impressive endurance, able to take a “baptizing” in boiling water.
He was able to hold his own against Big Mom, he even took a direct sword attack from her. While in water he becomes even more powerful, he an excellent swimmer and he’s able to “suppress” any fear he may have. He has mastered Fish-Man Karate, he’s a great strategists, he can communicate with fish life and has become skilled in Haki. His most powerful abilities are:
Fish-Man Karate – According to Jinbe, the secret of Fish-Man Karate is mastery of the water in the user’s direct vicinity, using its power to send powerful waves impacting the water within the opponent’s body. Because every creature has a high percentage of water in their body, the users of Fish-Man Karate are able to battle opponents that are usually highly resistant (if not immune) against blows and punches.
Busoshoku Haki – is a form of Haki that allows the user to use their spirit to create, in essence, an invisible armor around themselves.
Buraikan – A secret technique of the Fish-Man Karate. Jinbe concentrates in one hand a large amount of water that he shoots at close range against his opponent. The impact is so strong that the water penetrates the opponent’s body and gets out from the other end.
Gyojin Jiujitsu: Water Heart – Jinbe plunges into the sea. Using a jujitsu technique (unarmed martial art that originates in the bushi battle methods), Jinbe centralizes in both hands an enormous amount of water, to then transfer it to the surface.
Why is Jinbe on the top of the list?
Simply put he possess all the qualities of the previous four. He has great water techniques, intelligence, physical strength, speed, varied types of techniques and he is able to do battle in water, under water and on land.
The Strawhat are stunned at the news that the Revolution army had been defeated by the Blackbeard Pirates. Luffy is concerned for his brother Sabo. Though he seems to have forgotten that his father is Dragon, the Commander-in-Chief of the revolutionary army. Luffy’s absent mindedness is well established, so this isn’t surprising. News regarding whom has been wounded or killed was scarce.
Pedro deduces that if Luffy’s brother and father we killed or harmed, it would be big news. Luffy seems relieved, however, the conversation is interrupted by the kitchen setting on fire. During this moment a storm erupts, putting out the fire in the process. Meanwhile, at Zou, Bariete admits that he was aware that Carrot left to join Luffy. Meanwhile, it is revealed that Captain Jack survived and is waiting at the bottom of the sea for someone to save him.
Kiado is drunk and become enraged at Jack’s failure. He begins crying due to his failure to create a “crew of devil fruit users.” He yells that Luffy and Law don’t know who they have picked a fight with. Eustass Kid is shown to have been beaten and imprison. The storm has passed and Luffy tells his crew to dig into the meal he made. Luffy wastes much of the food, creating a apparently disgusting meal he dubbed “random curry.” Meanwhile, we see Sanji on Big Mom‘s ship. He discusses with Tamago his situation. Tamago tells Sanji that he should join the “Big Mom pirates.“
Sanji makes it clear that he won’t join, and that he definitely won’t be cooking anything for them. Vito shows up and shows Sanji what his future wife looks like. She’s gorgeous and predictably Sanji is floored. I’ve already expressed my disappointment that we didn’t get to see the fight between the revolutionary army and Blackbeard pirates. However, the deduction of Pedro seems sound, so I’m okay with it. Furthermore, I highly doubt that Sabo or Dragon would die anyway.
Captain Jack survival was surprising, he seems capable of breathing underwater unlike most devil fruit users. We finally get to see Kaido face and get to see his personality. He is how I would have predicted. Sanji reaction to his potential bribe is predictable, but I don’t see him truly betraying the Strawhat’s for her. Overall, another good chapter.
Naruto side story
The Path shone by the full moon light
Mitsuki awakens to Orochimaru handing him, “medicine.” He takes it and drops the cup due to it’s foul taste. Orochimaru leaves ordering Suigetsu to “bring him to his room,” once he completely awakens. Orochimaru is seen taking to a shadowy hooded figure. Suigetsu informs Mitsuki on how he came to end up in the medical bed. He then attacks Mitsuki, who successfully defends himself.
Orochimaru tells Mitsuki that he’s his “parent.” Mitsuki is unsure that Orochimaru is his mother or father. Orochimaru tells Mitsuki that they are going to get his memories back. He explains that the ninja named “Log,” has memory stealing jutsu. They dubbed this technique, Keibiki no jutsu. Together, Orochimaru and Mitsuki arrive at the lair of Log.
Mitsuki uses his “special” ability, to break through the barrier surrounding his hideout. They face Log head on, he uses Kana Shibari no jutsu (paralysis no jutsu). This effected Mitsuki, but not Orochimaru. Log and Orochimaru clash and uses his snake to attempt to pierce Log’s armor. He appears to fail and Log uses Ninja Art: Yoroi Gui.
His armor begins to cover Orochimaru, who tells Mitsuki to uses his sage power. Log attempts to attack Mitsuki, but is bitten by a small snake. Orochimaru leaves Mitsuki with the now paralyzed Log. Log asks Mitsuki to remove his mask and tells him that “Orochimaru is lying to him.” Upon removal of his mask it is revealed that he is a clone of Orochimaru, like Mitsuki.
He explains that they are “synthetic humans,” Orochimaru returns and he and Log begin to bicker over Mitsuki. Mitsuki activates his “Sage Mode,” and decides that he’ll make his own discussions. It is revealed that this entire mission was a ruse. Both, Orochimaru and Log were working together. The medicine first consumed by Mitsuki was a catalyst for his memory loss. They are happy that Mitsuki has become assertive and decided for himself what he’s going to do.
I can’t wait for Boruto to arrive next month, and this chapter wet my appetite for it. Mitsuki has long been rumored to Orochimaru’s child. I have always assumed that it was through science. Mitsuki seems to be and interesting character and his abilities haven’t been fully explained. One criticism is regarding the “Sage mode,” appearance. I just don’t like the design.
The Perfect Crimson 2
Hitsugaya activates his complete, Daiguren Hyourinmaru. He claims that his power is still incomplete. He tells Byakuya that he ages when he does use it. He acknowledges that he’s “not really a fan,” of his mature form. Gerard ask Hitsugaya, “who he is?” He confirms that he is still just Hitsugaya. Gerard clams that “it doesn’t matter,” and attacks.
He does acknowledge that the mature Hitsugaya, is a better than the “Child.” Gerard hurls his shield at Hitsugaya, he freezes it in mid-air. Gerard attacks Hitsugaya with his sword and it is frozen and split in half. He says that “anything that is frozen, all its functions cease.” Gerard’s finally results to using a “Quincy bow.” Hitsugaya uses the technique, Shikai Hyouketsu.
Hitsugaya explains that when he uses, Daiguren Hyourinmaru he can freeze anything within four seconds. Gerard breaks out of the ice and grabs Hitsugaya. Kenpachi grabs Gerard’s foot causing him to trip. He also begins to freeze due to touching Hitsugaya. He still claims is that it doesn’t matter. However, Byakuya uses his technique Senkei Senbonzakura Kageyoshi. He then use Ikka Senjinka, hurling hundreds of swords at Gerard.
This battle is getting more interesting, and I’m starting to think that Gerard isn’t dead yet. Facing off against, Hitsugaya, Kenpachi and Byakuya should be enough. However, if you consider the number of characters that haven’t used or revealed their Bankai’s yet. Mainly, characters like Shinji. In addition to this Renji and Rukia are still alive and can contribute if necessary. This fight started out as boring, but is becoming more enjoyable.
Hinata tells her children Himawari and Boruto to wake their father, Naruto. Himawari tries to wake her father up gently. Boruto, tells her that she can’t wake her father up in that “cutesy” manner. He then proceeds to jump on his fathers stomach. Hinata offers to pick up his Hokage haori, the elder seamstress is still working on it. Kakashi’s haori wasn’t finished in time, and required poor patchwork. Hinata goes to pick up the haori, and tells Naruto to bring the children to the ceremony.
At the ceremony Kakashi asks Hinata wear Naruto is, she is surprised and decides to go searching for him. At Naruto’s home Himawari and Boruto are fighting over bring a stuff panda to the ceremony. Naruto yells at them to stop, as the panda bear tears. Boruto apologizes as Himawari becomes enraged and activates her Byakugan. Himawari attacks Boruto, as Naruto intervene’s she attacks his chakra points by accident. Konohamaru uses henge no jutsu to take on Naruto’s appearance and the inauguration begins.
Meanwhile, Hinata finds Naruto completely unconscious after having his chakra points forcefully stopped. She wonder who could have done this to him. Boruto is scared of Himawari, who looks for him while still using the Byakugan. Boruto can’t seem to realizes that she can see through walls. Kishimoto can’t stop teasing us with the next generation, and now I want the series to continue on. That mostly won’t happen, but I have hope. Himawari is bad-ass though.
The death of Ace, was the one of the saddest deaths I’ve seen in anime. Most of the sadness was less about his death, and more about the response to it. Also the sacrifice of many of the Whitebeard Pirates to attempt to rescue him. He was technical freed, which only makes his death worse. The reaction of Luffy to his death was the most effective. The cruelty of Akainu in killing him and seeming mocking those who loved Ace afterwards. Luffy was rendered comatose, due to shock. An Whitebeard rage afterwards was somewhat satisfying.
Best Anime Fight (Day 26)
Jiraiya vs Pain
Naruto Chapters ( 368 – 382 )
This was the first battle that demonstrated the full strength of one of the “Legendary Three“. Pain was completely unknown in terms of his power and abilities at this point in the series. I didn’t anticipate the epicness of this fight. This battle featured everything from summons, to the introduction of Jiraiya’s sennin form. Pain changes bodies to feature a longer haired body. Pain summons a crab like creature that uses a bubble, Jiraiya uses a “ Raging Lion’s Mane Technique” and tangles the crab in his hair. The summon disappears and Jiraiya then uses his hair on Pain, who uses substitution jutsu.
Jiraiya summons a toad as Pain summons a chameleon. Jiraiya decides he’s “I’m going into sennin mode“, Pain hides in the mouth of the chameleon which turns invisible. Jiraiya counters with a barrier detection jutsu, Pain response by summoning a Cerberus like animal. Pain continues to use animal summons to conceal his location. Jiraiya wonders why he hasn’t use a technique other than summons. Jiraiya releases his summon and emerges transformed with two toads on his shoulders. The female toad uses her tongue to sniff out the chameleon, and uses acid to kill it.
Pain summons two other humans to the battlefield, each with their own set of Rinnegan eyes. Confused Jiraiya aims to discover the secret to Pains power. One of the Pains attacks Jiraiya and he uses his Frog Karate to counter. He then uses his “Hermit Art: Deep Fryer“, but another Pain absorbs this jutsu. Jiraiya decides to try close combat, he attacks with a massive Rasengan. The Rasengan is also absorbed, a smoke bomb is used to give cover and Jiraiya attempts to attack Pain from behind.
He fails to land a direct hit, he uses a frog summon as an distraction and uses his “Hermit Art: Hair Needle Barrage“. It’s his fastest attack and Pain still manages to counter it, with a summon. Jiraiya realizes somethings up and retreats to come up with a plan. Jiraiya concludes that the eyes of the Pains are linked. He and the frogs determine they need to use genjutsu. The genjutsu has it’s effect and Jiraiya kills the three Pains. However, another Pain shows you, he attacks Jiraiya ripping of his arm.
Confused again as all the previously dead Pain are alive. He now has six adversaries to contend with, “The six paths of Pain“. Jiraiya kills one of the Pains and manage to seek refuge inside another toad. Instead of escaping he decides to confront Pain one last time. He realizes that all the Pains are shinobi he’s fought before. At this point Pain crushes Jiraiya’s throat and all six Pains stabs him. Jiraiya uses his last moments leave a message on the back of one of the toads before he drowns. Throughout this battle Jiraiya use his techniques and observation to determine the weakness of Pain. He sacrifices himself for the Leaf and provides important Intel that latter aids in the defeat of Pain. This is why I think it was the best anime battle.
A new character Mikki begins to introduce his team. He introduces his team as “Team Konohamaru”. Konohamaru is of course the grandson of the third Hokage, he was the nephew of Asuma formerly a member of twelve guarding ninja’s. He introduces his teammates Sarada, Boruto he manages to comically evade introducing himself. Then we are shown the beginning a mission. The mission is actually a training exercise, in the tradition genin of previous generations requiring teamwork to get two bells from their sensei.
Mikki uses his stretching abilities to quickly grab the bells. Boruto comically says to Mikki that he technique is his father’s “Monkey D”, before Mikki interrupts him. Konohamaru uses replacement jutsu, and attacks with Rasengan. Boruto counters with “lemon juice”, then he uses Kagebushin no jutsu. He then uses transformation jutsu, Sexy Adult Foursome Jutsu. In the end Sarada has enough and uses her strength, taking both bells for herself.
Baby, Hold your hand
Mayuri notes that Kenpachi can still “move his eyes despite being paralyzed“, Mayuri admits that he “is impressed by this and resolves to improve the paralyzing power of Ashisogi Jizo“. Ikkaku angrily states that “Mayuri sent Kenpachi in against Pernida on purpose to get him out of the way“, and Yumichika claims that “Mayuri is always the same, Nemu states that she hopes so, to his confusion“. Mayuri tells Pernida that “Kenpachi’s sacrifice allowed him to deduce the nature of his powers” and “claims that noble victories are always preceded by noble sacrifices before telling Pernida that it should donate its body to his experiments to honor this sacrifice“.
However, Pernida rips through his cloak, revealing itself to be a “giant left hand with a dual-pupiled eye on the palm“. Mayuri identifies Pernida as “the left arm of the Soul King“. Pernida shatters the chains connecting its fingers tips and grows the rest of its arm. As Mayuri notes “that its Reiatsu is similar to that of Mimihagi“. Pernida releases more black nerves from its fingertips, Mayuri defends himself with a umbrella like shield with a face on it. He wonders why “the left arm of the Soul King would work for Yhwach“. Mayuri extremely happy to have found such a unique organism to study and research. Pernida begins to speak that it’s not the left arm of the soul king, but Pernida.
On Dressrosa, Issho rolls a one die, he states that “this means that he and the Marines will not go after Luffy or Law despite telling Sakazuki earlier that he would“. Maynard argues that “they had just found the two’s location and that if he would keep his word to Sakazuki then now would be the perfect time“. However, Issho tells Maynard that “it is shameful to argue after the dice has fallen“. At the Royal Palace, the Colosseum gladiators and other citizens rest. They wonder where “Lucy” is, wishing that they could thank him. Riku tells Rebecca that “the Straw Hat Pirates and Kyros were no longer in the palace, but Riku says that they were together and would most likely come back to the palace tomorrow“. Riku asks Rebecca if “she would be ready to become the princess if he returned to the throne, shocking her“.
The Sunny crew docks after escaping the Big Mom Pirates. Caesar Clown is upset that the Straw Hat crew for exploring the island and wants to stay on the ship, but Sanji threatens to uses his heart to get him off to leave the ship. Chopper tells Caesar to “hurry onto the island, as they could still save a little girl on the island“. Nami, Brook, and Momonosuke are confronted on the island by two pirates riding an animal. One of them named Sheepshead, asks “how they got on the island, when he is suddenly warned about the Eruption Rain coming“.
A mountain on the island erupts with water, causing a flood. Due to the fact that Brook and Momonosuke are devil fruit user, Nami is forced to save them. They are attacked by Sheepshead, who uses Sheep’s Horn: Soul Parado, turning his hands into sheep’s horns. Brook counters his attack, wondering “what sort of power Sheepshead has“. Sanji arrives using Diable Mouton Shot, kicks Sheepshead, quickly defeating him. The girl with Sheepshead tells her other crew mates that “Sheepshead has been defeated“. One of them says that they haven’t found the samurai yet, but the girl tells them “to report that the samurai is not here“.
At The Kid Pirates’ base, a massive collision occurs, the three pirate crews are unsure what happened. The pirates see a massive hole in the ground in the shape of a person with horns. Urouge greets the visitor, this person was searching for “a place to die after being defeated, captured, and tortured many times“. Urouge stated that “he would not stop him if that was what he truly wanted as the man jumped off the island onto the Kid Pirates’ base“. This man had “turned criminal, and despite many torturing and attempted executions, none of them were successful, and no one was capable of killing him, not even himself“. This man gets up, upset that he was still alive. This man is revealed to be Kaido, and he shouts out to Doflamingo in anger, saying that “he would start the greatest war the world would ever see“.
The Naruto special was surprising, but somewhat disappointing. I think that the ten part mini series that preceded this was enough to promote the final movie, this as completely unnecessary. The “introduction” of Mikki was interesting, overtly mentioning Monkey D. Luffy was probably the most interesting aspect of this chapter. Konohamaru becoming the leader of Boruto’s team made perfect sense. However, I would have liked to really see what his abilities were. I’m not sure if this special chapter was a one-shot or mini series, but it doesn’t appear to have any value to the actual story other than to be a reminder of the up coming movie.
The Left hand of the Soul King was a weird reveal. It is interesting why the left arm was working for Yhwach, but I assume we’ll discover why eventually. Mayuri maintains his usually disrespectful and logical behavior. Mayuri rarely get into danger when fighting an opponent, I wonder how he will handle the full power of Pernida. One Piece handles its world building better than most manga. The world is so large that many of the major players in the series are still shrouded mystery. One of those characters was one of the Yonko, Kaido of the Beasts. He’s known as the “strongest creature in the world”. He is said to “constantly attempt suicide, even seeing it as a hobby”, because he cannot die. I can’t wait to see how powerful, he actually is.
Yhwach tells Jugram Haschwalth that he’s his “other half”. Haschwalth says that he doesn’t understand, “what he is?” Yhwach says that he “doesn’t need to understand” and that he will “stay at his side and become an integral member of the sternritter. Haschwalth looks for Bazz-B, however Bazz is clearly jealous. He begins staring into with intense hatred, he doesn’t understand why he was chosen. Haschwalth explains “how he has no skill with his Quincy abilities before stating that Bazz-B would be a better choice“, shocking Bazz-B. However, Yhwach claims that “this is as he has foreseen before revealing that Haschwalth shares his power-granting abilities“.
Yhwach states “that a Quincy who shares his powers is born every 200 years“. Yhwach states that “unlike the other Quincy, he cannot absorb the reishi around you and make it your own power“. Yhwach asks Bazz-B if “he really believed this was by his own power”. Yhwach reveals that “Haschwalth is the one who turned Bazz-B from a worthless Quincy to a prodigy before telling Haschwalth that he needs him with him“. Jealous and humiliated Bazz-B becomes enraged, stands up and fires a Heilig Pfeil at Yhwach, Haschwalth catches it. We return to the present, where Haschwalth catches Bazz-B’s Heilig Pfeil before slashing him with his sword. I’m little surprised that apparently Bazz-B is only this good due to being exposed to Haschwalth. That said it makes sense that he would be insulted and enraged, when he was told. Personally, I think Haschwalth protecting Yhwach was a little premature. However, Bazz-B made it easier with his jealousy. There’s still more to this story, since the clear animosity between Yhwach, Haschwalth and Bazz-B should have made it difficult for trust to be established between them.
One piece is clearly in the “clean up phase”, of this arc and I don’t expect a whole lot to occur for the next few chapter. Sabo defeats Jesus Burgess, but finally kills him after Burgess mockingly disrespects Ace. The Marines arrest Doflamingo and the Donquixote Pirates, Maynard tells the world what happened in Dressrosa. The citizens of Dressrosa beg former King Riku, to return to his former position. Issho and the Marines bow down to “repent” for their alliance with Doflamingo, which is revealed to the entire world.
Projected into these eyes
Sarada’s punch sends many enemies flying, shocking her mother. Naruto and his clones look the Shin’s in the eye’s scaring them, by showing them Kurama within his body. Chocho compliments Sarada’s strength, she asks “her father about his feelings for her mother”. Sasuke response that because they have Sarada, they are connected. The Shin’s clones are brought to “the Konoha Orphanage”, where Kabuto tells them to consider him their new father. Chocho realizes her father Choji can lose a lot of weight, and she asks him to start training her the day after. Sasuke, Sakura and Sarada have a nice family dinner, however Sasuke leaves the next day.
He pokes Sarada on the forehead as a goodbye, but doesn’t show Sakura any affection. Boruto thanks Sarada “for giving the lunchbox to his father“, she responds that “she should be the one to say that and tells him her wish to become Hokage“. Meanwhile, Karin tells Suigetsu she “wasn’t the one who gave birth to Sarada, but the one who delivered her“. She scolds him for being a moron and tells him that he tested the DNA of “the umbilical cord that connected Sarada and Sakura“. Finally, we see the photo that Sarada wanted of herself with her father and mother. Apparently, this will be IT for Naruto, along with the movie to follow. I wish it wasn’t. I don’t know what happens in the movie, but I’m interested in this generation and want to see more of them. This chapter made me realize that. The chapter also quickly and neatly ended the arc. I like how they explained Sarada’s parentage, and how they handled the Shin’s. Interestingly they (the Shin’s) are basically, the replacements for the Uchiha clan. I wonder how they will be treated in Konoha.
Doflamingo hits the ground like a comet, battered and broken. Law quickly switches Luffy with a rock as he descends toward the ground. The citizens of Dressrosa notice that “no one’s in the sky”. Uncertain of what happened, they ask Gatz to confirm. The bird cage begins to disappear, much to everyone’s excitement. The citizens remember their pain and trauma at the hands of Doflamingo and his family. They rejoice as Gatz finally announces the “winner”, Lucy. This chapter was the closing of a long arc, it’s not surprising that featured no action or revelations. Regardless it was a satisfying arc and I can’t wait to see the aftermath.
Bazz-B remembers that “while he and Haschwalth were training in the forest for 5 years, he was fine, but Haschwalth did not seem to have the abilities of a Quincy, unable to even collect Reishi“. He Recalls a “myth”, regarding how he heard of a “Quincy being born every 10 years that was “incomplete”. However, Haschwalth mastered his “swordsmanship and bowmanship to compensate for his lack of Quincy skills”, Bazz-B claimed that “he could not abandon him”. Eventually, a soldier named Hubert comes into a nearby village to announce “the formation and recruitment of the Sternritter for the purpose of invading Soul Society”.
Bazz-B and Haschwalth attempted to sign up. Hubert to tell him “the examination is in a few days and that he has work to do”. However, Bazz-B challenges him to battle, Hubert accepts his challenge. Yhwach arrives and “pins everyone to the ground with his Reiatsu”. Yhwach notes that “he needs a right-hand man”, Bazz-B attempts to get his attention, Yhwach selects Haschwalth, whom “he calls his other half”. We know that both Haschwalth and Bazz-B eventually join Yhwach’s army, what we don’t know is why they decided to follow him instead of kill him. I’m predicting that Haschwalth “abandons” Bazz-B, betraying him or by becoming Yhwach’s right hand Bazz-B becomes jealous and grows to hate him.
I will protect you
Shin uses several dozen blades to create an arm, as he prepares to fight against Sakura. Susanoo takes flight in search for Sakura, Naruto uses his Sage technique to find her location. Sarada tries to focus on more important things than her parentage. Meanwhile, Sakura and Shin face off, Sasuke interrupts as he cuts off Shins arm. Sasuke uses Susanoo to crush Shin, then he removes several blades from Sakura. They have a lovely moment, Naruto comments that Sasuke at full power is “beast”. Sasuke tells Shin that he has broken his bones and he can no longer move. Shin attempts to “sacrifice”, all remaining Shins to escape. However, the remaining Shin’s betray him. It is revealed that there are many more Shin clones that vary in appearance. Naruto use a mass of shadow clones to face the numerous clones.
Sasuke uses his Susanoo to punch the largest clone, Shin attempts to use the confusion to his advantage. He uses the mini ten tails to try and teleport himself along with Sakura, Sarada and Chocho. Sasuke calls to Sarada, as she kills the ten tails with one punch. As the remaining clones attack from behind them, Naruto suggests a retreat. Sarada aims to protect her mother, activates her Sharingan then uses her massive strength to send the Shin clones flying. Who’s Sarada mother, Karin or Sakura? This chapter poked holes in the reveal from the last chapter. How’s is it possible for her to have that strength and not be Sakura’s daughter. Anyway, Shins “death” was a little surprising but then not really. He was, as another Shin told him, old and useless. Sarada really impressed me, she first appeared to be weak compared to her father, but now she possesses both the Sharingan and Sakura type strength. That makes her the most interesting character introduced from the new generation.
Naruto seems surprised that Sarada awakened the Sharingan. He is reminded of Sasuke, but Sarada says that she “doesn’t care to resemble that kind of man at all“. Naruto asks her “what she was planning“, she tearfully tells Naruto that she plans on “going to continue this journey on her own“, and that she doesn’t “plan on returning to Konoha“. Naruto grabs her, telling her that “he’s not sure that it has nothing to do with him“. Sarada says that she disagrees, Naruto say’s that as Hokage he treats all the “entire village as his family“. Sarada doesn’t seem to accept his view on family. She questions her “family”, with her father being absent and not sharing “blood” with “her mother”. Naruto reflects on his childhood and tells Sarada that “bonds aren’t merely made up of just time and blood”. He says that there’s a more powerful bond, Love.
Sarada remembers her childhood, in her memory we see Sakura taking care of her, while she asks her mother where her father is. She decides that she wants to “save her mother”, we she returns to her father outside he yells at her and Naruto for taking too long. Naruto, says that “they need to save Sakura”, Oorochimaru says that she “may already be dead”. Sasuke states that “his wife isn’t that soft”, and “she may have already taken care of everything”. Sasuke activates his Rinnegan and Sharingan, stating that he’ll take them to her location. Meanwhile, Shin tells Sakura that “his main objective is to bring extinction to the gene’s of those who stand in his way. He asks her “which category does she fall into“, Sakura responds the “because Sasuke was investigating who Shin was and what he was after”, and “that was the only reason that he’s still able to talk. She indicates with her fists that she is ready to fight.
Heaven and Earth
The civilians of Dressrosa, along with Zoro, Usopp, and Violet cheer at Luffy (Lucy’s) return. Doflamingo says that Luffy’s return was “rather flamboyant“, and that he “bet that his haki barely returned“. He questions whether Luffy can even stand. Doflamingo attacks Luffy, then Rebecca, only to have Law switch her with a rock. Doflamingo uses EVER WHITE, turning the entire section of the city into threads. He traps Luffy in the threads, and uses THOUSAND ARROWS then FLAP THREAD. Luffy fails to use ARMAMENT HAKI, Doflamingo mocks Luffy who claimed that his Haki would return. This causes confusion and concern from the civilians, Luffy calls Doflamingo a “Jerk”. Doflamingo beings to control Luffy’s body, Luffy remembers his training with Rayleigh. Luffy yells that “he’s sick and tired of Doflamingo’s shit”, Doflamingo calls Luffy predictable when he uses, GEAR FOURTH.
Luffy tears through the threads and ascends midair, Doflamingo chastises Luffy’s fighting tactic. He says that he will show him a “true one hit K.O.”. He says that he “can’t stand the sight of anyone above him“. Luffy shouts that he’s “sick of Doflamingo’s behavior“. Doflamingo responds that “everyone was born beneath him and they are destined to be ruled by another“. He uses his technique SPIDERS WEB, Luffy counters with GOMU GOMU NO KING KONG GUN. His attack is devastating seeming defeating Doflamingo once and for all.
Bazz-B remembers meeting with a young Haschwalth. Haschwalth notes that he cannot even form a Heilig Bogen like Bazz-B can yet, prompting Bazz-B to claim “no one else can do it because he is a genius, which is why Haschwalth should not feel bad”. Haschwalth asks Bazz-B to “stop calling him Jugo before revealing that he lives with his uncle”. Haschwalth explains that “he needs to catch at least one rabbit”, but Bazz-B throws the rabbit he killed at Haschwalth. Bazz-B tells Haschwalth that “he will teach him whatever he wants to know and that they will be the strongest Quincies around”. Bazz-B creates a hole in a wall of Wahrwelt, Haschwalth attempts to move the battle to another location so not to damage the castle. Bazz-B uses Burner Finger 3 to turn much of the surrounding area into lava.
We see further into the past as Bazz-B watches the village he lived in get burned down by Yhwach. Bazz-B tells Haschwalth that “they will kill Yhwach“. Haschwalth questions whether “he has to come with him“, Bazz-B notes that Yhwach also “burned down his forest before telling him to live with his uncle if he is okay with this“. Haschwalth tells Bazz-B that “his uncle died in the fire as well“. Bazz-B and Haschwalth train for five years in order to kill Yhwach. Yhwach tells Zeidritz that he plans to “create a new army and points out that they have already conquered all the surrounding countries”. Yhwach states that “they have not yet conquered Soul Society, for which they will need a new army: the Sternritter”.
I find it interesting that Bazz-B and Haschwalth wanted to kill Yhwach after he conquered their lands. I wonder how they both came to support him by joining the Sternritters. I appears at first glance that Haschwalth was the more weak willed of the two and probably was the first recruited. However, it’s entirely possible that they joined to get closer to Yhwach only to find that he was too powerful to defeat. In the Naruto chapter we see Naruto unsurprisingly, and correctly in my opinion talk Sarada out of abandoning Konoha and her family. I think Sarada response to her biology was appropriate, especially considering her age. Not much else happened in this chapter, save the set up of the potential fight between Sakura and Shin. I did find the confidence between Sakura and Sasuke toward each other to be touching. Finally, we have the conclusion of Luffy vs Doflamingo. There’s not a whole lot that surprised me about it’s conclusion just more Luffy epicness and one final devastating blow.
