Big Jolts in Dressrosa

Finally as Sugar collapses all the toys rejoice as they return to their human selves. Doflamingo is quickly informed about Sugars state by a panicked Trevor. No longer under the influence of Sugar’s devil fruit, their memories also are restored. Some of the toys were actually formerly animals, pirates, government officials and sailors. A badly injured Usopp receives high praise for his efforts, both from Robin and the dwarves.

Thunder returns to his Curos form and quickly begins his assault on Doflamingo. He manages to surprise him and decapitates him. Elsewhere, in the Colosseum the crowd begins to panic. Lucy suggest that they “finish the match”, and he proceeds to destroy the ring with “Ryuusouken, The Dragons Breath”.

For a chapter that has significantly changed the stakes it felt short. Most of this chapter was the effects of Sugars loss of consciousness. Curos return and subsequent decapitation of Doflamingo was surprising, but we all know that won’t be enough to defeat him.

The battle at the Colosseum has clearly lost some of it’s importance, none of the participants seem to fighting very hard for Ace’s devil fruit which was the catalyst for this entire situation. I wonder if “Lucy” will make a final push for it in the following chapter. Overall, this chapter was exciting even though there wasn’t much action involved. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Naruto and The Hermit of the six paths

Hagoromo concludes that Naruto is the reincarnation of his son Ashura and that Sasuke is the reincarnation of his other son Indra. Naruto asks about previous “transmigraters” and what happened to them. Hagoromo responds that Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara were the previous Ashura and Indra reincarnations.

However, by mixing Hashirama’s cells with his Madara mixed Ashura’s and Indra’s chakra releasing Hagoromo’s chakra and activating the “Rinnegan”. Hagoromo explains that “Ninshuu” is intended to “connect people”. His mother attempted to control the world with her power, resulting in fear.

Hagoromo states that this power is what Madara is attempting to obtain. He explains that the ” Eternal Tsukuyomi” ins’t just a genjutsu. That it uses the power of the people it shows the continuous dreams to. Hagoromo’s mother possessed the “Byakugan” and the “Sharingan”, she used them against people.

Hagoromo stressed the fact that when chakra becomes one the “world will end”. He think’s Naruto can stop Madara because he’s “a bit stupid and eccentric”. Naruto thanks him for continuing to believe in humanity after all he’s witnessed. As Hagoromo decries how the Bijuu are used, Shukaku ,the 8 tail and Kurama’s other half emerge.

Kurama and Hagoromo speak of a “promise”, where a “blue eyed boy would call the name of the 9 beast and play with them”. Each of the nine beasts names are called and they appear around Naruto. Hagoromo asks Naruto “what he wants to do”, he response “protect my friends”. Hagoromo responds “is that your answer”, surprisingly to both Naruto and Sasuke.

He acknowledges that his previous failure was that he focused on only Ashura not Indra as well. He gives both Sasuke and Naruto new powers, then we return to the outside world. We see that both Gai and Madara are damaged and Gai aims to use “the Night Moth”.

Wow this chapter was amazing, especially the way it ended. Most of the conversation was really straight forward, but the fact that both Naruto and Sasuke appeared to make the same determination (in regards to protecting their friends) was surprising.

The clarification on how the Rinnegan came to be was smart and believable. I thought it was surprising that Hagoromo’s mother possessed the Byakugan, not the Rinnegan. The ” Child of Prophecy” seems to include Naruto AND Sasuke. The twist at the end was the fact that Hagoromo was simultaneously  speaking to both Naruto and Sasuke.

Gai verses Madara was an after thought, but looking at Madara’s current condition and the fact that Gai still has at least one technique left I don’t see how he can compete with Gai then Sasuke and Naruto.  Without Madara using some healing technique a fight between Madara, Naruto and Sasuke would be one sided and unremarkable. However, I’m still not ready for Gai to die. Let’s see what happens.

The Killers High

The fight between Kenpachi and Gremmy commences. Askin Nakk Le Vaar watches from a far marveling at Kenpachi’s prowess, appearing behind him is another Sternritter “Pepe“. He notes that ” it would have been better to keep him locked up for all eternity”. Askin decides to leave so he can avoid getting “mixed up in his crazy mess”.

Kenpachi tells Yachiru to get her arm heal by Isane, she gleefully runs to do so. Gremmy seems impressed that Kenpachi figure out how his ability worked. Kenpachi challenges Gremmy to “get this fight started”. Kenpachi attacks and Gremmy surrounds him with stone, he realizes that he now wants to “destroy” Kenpachi.

Gremmy creates machine guns and missiles, firing rapidly at Kenpachi. Kenpachi emerges from the flames unharmed, happy that Gremmy appears to be enjoying the fight.

This chapter was a little bit underwhelming. Not much happened accepted the introduction of another Sternritter, Pepe. I have yet to see anything that warrants the level of fear of Gremmy’s powers but that remains to be seen. I expect this to change in the foreseeable future.
